I am Haku-jin, but was born/raised in Tokyo. When I was a little girl and O bon festivals started, my little sister and I would put on our yukatas and gleefully run to the nearby Shinto shrine for the celebration. We used to dance to Tokyo Ondo. It was my favorite song. 50 years later, I get misty eyed listening and watching, reminded of such wonderful memories.
I grew up in Tokyo. I couldn't wait for O bon O dori every summer. Would dress in my summer kimono and dance with my neighbors. I was the only gaigin there lol. I didn't care, I had so much fun!
I would imagine how beautiful it must have been to walk around the festival children playing running with thier friends and smells of good food in the air in the bustling crowd
I´m from Buenos Aires. Here, in La Plata, we have a Bon Odori too. With my friends love this festivals, eat, dance, buy little things... I wish that one time in my life have this experience but in Japan... Thanks for the video!
Of course you can. Everybody is welcome at Bon Odori, the dance movements are very simple and can easily learned in few minutes. Last year I joined a Bon Odori in Tokyo, there were some other westerners and they didn't look out of place as the atmosphere was very festive and friendly.
Yes everyone is encouraged to take part. It's just the tower is only for those performing. Very rare they invite ppl up there. As a kid my mom took me to where the tower was n the guy who was the dummer let me hit the drum once. It was so cool
あなたの文化に感謝します! 日本舞踊とその動きを見るのはとても面白いです。
