Glad to see someone else who does the alignment before startup. None of the written guides/manuals do this but I find its the only way to not be stuck waiting on it. For consistency I use ground power always, so my boat procedure is the same. Strange that neither the Hornet or the F-14 allow INS alignment unless one engine is running, may be linked to the generator in some way. I've also heard not to start the engine during alignment, as it can cause movement but it's probably not modelled.

Wouldn’t you only do that if you are at sea level? Ie shouldn’t you actually just make sure the QFE is correct? Or have I misunderstood something?
QFE or QFH.....it's a good call. And Im not sure there is a right and wrong. Yes IRL you shouldn't set to zero if on an elevated airfield...so I am wrong to do so....however DCS ATC uses QFE when it probably shouldn't...so it's a case of two wrongs making a right. I think Russian air traffic still use QFE and I suspect DCS has a legacy of that. That said you can leave the QFE as default and use airfield elevation from your kneeboards....but I go with the ATC and set the barometric pressure. I guess it's personal preference.
