    Jason Williams isn't the best passer,but he's arguably the flashiest in NBA history

      Hmmm, .......imaybe Earvib Magic was better, but Jason was up there. He wasn't simply flashy.

    • @landkevin28
      @landkevin28 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If we're talking vision combined with accuracy, powerful precision, and flashiness, Williams definitely is the best passer in history in that regard

    • @Somm_RJ
      @Somm_RJ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No way he is one of the best passers in the game. He never was, even just in his time. He is the flashiest, yes.
      Remember these are just highlights, not the whole game, especially not an 82 game season where you get to see the whole picture.
      Whoever says he is one of the best never really get to see him or his contemporary peers play. Probably, they are too young to know then.
      He was not even better than John Wall as a passer, so how in the earth would someone consider him one of the best passer ever. He was not even better than Gary Payton who was not really known solely for his passing.
      He averaged 5.9 assists per game.
      His highest season average in assist is 8.3. That is no way near the best passers in the game had.

    • @landkevin28
      @landkevin28 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Somm_RJ Arguments for whoever was the best in any given aspect would be pretty friggin dry if all you relied on was averages.
      We're talking about pure passing ability: being able to see the entire court in front of him and being able to get the ball to who he wants with accuracy and precision. If we're talking about having the ball on a string, Williams had that and much more. He built off Magic's flashiness but added a contemporary flair and more power to the passes. He saw lanes that most never saw in real time. Threaded the needle with the best of them

    • @Somm_RJ
      @Somm_RJ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@landkevin28 we are talkinb about best passers, not best passing ability.
      Best passers makes passes counts, hence averages.
      There's no way Jason Williams flashy passes is better than Kohn Stockton's simple passes. By the end of the day, Stockton's pass led to a score more. In that way, he saw the court better, just passed the ball simpler.
      Vision and passing ability should not be confused with each other. Jason Williams may be able to pass the ball accurately in whatever position he has, but only if he sees the lane.
      Rubio for example has a great vision and passing ability. He can see the floor before it even develops. You can't consider him one of the best though because obviously there are a lot of factors that affects that besides delivering the ball.
      Assist Percentage is an advance stat, unlike assist, it takes into consideration assists, his minutes played, his team's total minutes played, and their pace. In this way it would be fair to judge a player even if he played smaller minutes or his team plays slower than other teams.
      Where does J-Will stand?
      Magic Johnson - 40.9%
      Jason Kidd - 38.5%
      Steve Nash - 41.5%
      Chris Paul - 45.6%
      John Stockton - 50.2%
      Jason Williams - 32%
      That also drops to a putrid 21.4% in the playoffs. Even ballhog Iverson passes way better than that in the playoffs.
      He's better than Mike Bibby though, so that trade was terrible.

I can't even comprehend the amount of practice that goes into figuring that out consistently.

It's really not about scoring your own baskets it about allowing your team to win.

    Jason Williams was also a decent scorer. His best year he averaged over 14 points per game, and for a career he averaged just over 10. He preferred passing, though. He claimed that he would practice for several hours and never take a shot, He would have ankle weights on his wrists and wear gloves. That likely explains how he made such powerful passes. There are many 'White Chocolate" videos on TH-cam where you can see him shooting. His famous 'elbow pass' occurs at about 14.45 on this video - he made a behind the back move and caromed it off his elbow to his teammate. He played in the NBA from 1998 to 2010.

    Check out "Dock Ellis & the LSD no-no".
    Out of over 200,000 mlb games played over the years, about 300 have been no hitters. This man pitched one while tripping balls.

    Jason Williams played a style called "street ball". It's characterized by the flash and flair you see in his game, and is more common on public courts with amateur players.
    There are some famous public courts in the country where NBA players are known to compete with locals who are every bit as talented as all but the most elite professionals.
    Some of these players are legendary amongst an underground fan base. They may have had difficulties in school, or substance abuse issues, or legal problems that kept them from going to college and turning pro. Nevertheless, some of the most talented players never wore a uniform.
    I recommend And1 videos, if you are interested in seeing more of this style of play.

    The thing with Jwill is that he has the best highlights. but, as you can see he likes to go for the crazy flashy passes that are difficult to pull off. so he turned the ball over a lot. and as you may have noticed, he is always looking to pass which made him easier to defend than a player who can pass AND score

  • @Xxzombies12
    @Xxzombies12 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    He generates so much power when he throws it behind the back is because most of the time he’s running. Whenever he’s not running to get power for the pass you can pivot your foot and take a step to gain more power.

    A lot of people consider Jason Williams one of the most (if not the most) talented passers ever. Other great passers include: Magic Johnson, Steve Nash, John Stockton (the all time assist leader), Jason Kidd, Pete Maravich, LeBron James, and more. Look up any one of these player's assist highlights and you will not be disappointed.

    Lifelong NBA fan here. To answer your questions. 1. You probably never heard of him because hew as never really a star player, just a flashy passer 2. He is not known as the best passer ever, might not even be top 10 but he for sure is one of, if not the most, flashy passer.
    The best pure passers in NBA history are Magic Johnson, Chris Paul, John Stockton and Isiah Thomas to name the popular ones.

  • @Kreze202
    @Kreze202 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    He's not usually considered the best passer ever, but he is widely recognized as the most flashy passer. Names like John Stockton, Magic Johnson, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, Rajon Rondo and others are usually considered the best passers of all time.
    You should react to Magic Johnson's highlights as well. He has a good amount of flashy passes. Other than that, probably Hakeem Olajuwon, Kobe Bryant's toughest shots, LeBron James, Josh Smith, Kyrie Irving, and Larry Bird. Great video again Luka!

    White Chocolate was the only player in the nba crazy enough to attempt these passes in real meaningful games and its what made him so damn fun to watch. Except the behind the back elbow pass, he only did that in an all-star game and after the game said he did it just to show could and wasn't going to do it again.

    There is a ceiling to Jason Williams success and that has to do with how good of a passer he is and the speed at which he sees the game. He was incredibly fun to watch but his biggest problem is that if he can fool the other team so easily with all his passes just imagine how often he fooled is teammates. Jason had a good deal of turnovers. Also, because he wasn't much of a shooting threat he wasn't really ever double teamed or even heavily guarded which leads to an open man on the court. That's where players like Stockton come in. If you double team him he would find the player not being guarded. Slack on guarding him and he will drop a 3 with pinpoint accuracy. So people chose to guard him and he would more often than not find a great lane on the court and make the pass. He, by the numbers, is the greatest passer in NBA history. Followed by probably Chris Paul. Jason Kidd. Magic Johnson has to be up there.

    I was 11 when Jason was drafted. The Sacramento Kings had been terrible forever, and finally we had this young exciting rookie and a revamped roster - Webber, Divac, Stojakovic - who knew how to move without the ball.
    REALLY exciting brand of basketball, and peak nostalgia right here.
    It's a damn shame the Kings were blatantly robbed of a championship in 02.
