It is good that you collect thing you like and want to use them. Too many people collect things which sit in a box, never to see the light of day. The last ring shouts quality.

Re antique or ancient jewellery - I remember seeing some plates and spoons from Roman times in the British museum - also necklaces and earrings, and I remember thinking that absolutely none of those objects would look out of place if used today for dinner, or the jewellery was worn out in the evening. It still looked fairly avant-garde, and in particular the earrings and necklaces looked elegant and understated - could have matched all sorts of different clothing.

First of all, I think you have excellent taste! Personally I think my favourite of your collection would have to be The Ring, I can see why you were obsessed with it. The only ring I wear regularly is a Nouveau-style piercework silver one that's a kind of symmetric floral design. Anyway I'm really glad you decided to make this video - it's a subject I'm interested in too, so I hope you'll do some more videos about antiques etc.
I’m a huge sap/romantic. I knew for my engagement ring, we were on a budget and that I wanted something romantic, sweet and unique. I don’t ever have time to shop in person with children, so I thought I’d check Etsy. I was surprised at how many sellers there were selling antique/vintage jewelry! I’m so glad I checked too. Saved me loads of stress, time and trouble! I have short and pudgy fingers. I’m a size 9. It’s not an easy size to find unless I’m willing to go out of my budget to pay for resizing. Any who. I had also just finished the latest season of Bridgerton, and was inspired by the ring Anthony gave to Kate with the sweet pearls! 🤣😂 I’ve also always loved pearls! I think they’re timeless and romantic! Unfortunately I could not find one in my size, BUT I did find a SWEET and dainty uncommon belcher ring! It was an antique 14k gold setting with a modern champagne stone! I’m so in love and feel like it was meant to be!! It also helps when some shops accept monthly payments! I am on the hunt still for a seed pearl and ruby or garnet ring! Loved this video!! I also have had my eye on an art deco star ring, and FINALLY found one today for a decent price in my size! Had to treat myself as an early birthday gift! TBH, since I’ve found my engagement ring, I think I might just have to start a collection as well. ☺️😍

Hi Jen, your box is South American Rosewood. Very nice one. Great video of your jewelery. Also greatly agree re architecture. I live in Auckland and often study and admire Victorian architecture of buildings, both commercial/ residential.

If you do get the money to save Victorian houses you should get in touch with the National Trust, whose job it is to preserve historical buildings, monuments and sites.
Re: the rings - pearls get brighter the more they're worn, presumably because they react to body heat. (See Carol Ann Duffy's poem "Warming Her Pearls".)

Not a huge fan of Victorian Architecture and jewellery, more into Georgian and Regency as not as fussy, also like Art Deco. I loved my Grandmothers 1921 house, an example of the late Arts and Craft mixed with very early Art Deco, including the early 20's massive still working in the 60's fridge, very noisy though. It probably cost almost as much as the house did in 1921! The house was bought off plan and didn't include the cost of building the road to adopted standard. The reason that there are many unadopted roads in England, mainly Cul de Sac's, until the road building cost had to be included in the house price by the developers/builders and split equally between the houses.
All were my faborites....but I love rings. I went to your etsy and have it favorited....keeping an eye for my next ring purchase! Thanks for sharing:)

Do they use the terms "Victorian" and "Edwardian" in Germany? Presumably they are only make sense in Britain.
They use it in the USA often too. In Germany they usually use Victorian more loosely as they like to be more specific in general. But yeah we use it
@@JenDre I’d imagine since Germany by then was still of bunch of smaller kingdoms and principles and dukedoms at the time (Victoria being from one) there isn’t an equivalent?

A former co worker collected German magazines from the 1930's onward.Recording the change in society,from the ads to clothes and everyday life running up to the war years.When he died two years ago,his wife threw them down the tip.......she couldn't read German,just the dust they were covered in.

We live in a 1895 Victorian semi and it saddens me when people rip out all the finishes. We have intact roses, cornices and Minton tiles

I have been trying to work out a value on a white gold 15 carat and it has a black stone and about 1/2 a carat stone in the top. It also reads like this in the hallmark. A 15 CT. COULD any one guide me? Should I take it to a jeweller
They stopped making 15 gold carat in 1931 and it begun in about the mid 1800's I think.

If you want to narrow down the history of your house you can check the census and the National Library of Scotland has a huge collection of historical maps including all of the Ordnance Survey maps.
The Land Registry as well but they charge for certain information if it's not been digitised and a physical archive search is required.

@@charlestaylor3027 I was talking of the Land Registry in England that hold the records of all property in Engand. They have the full details of the plot, buildings and all ownership transfers back to when built or the records first existence. As Jen lives in England Scottish records would not be of assistance.

Lovely lovely lovely! Wear your antique jewelry all the time. A lesson I learned later in life. Meant to be enjoyed. At worst you may damage (& repair) or lose a piece - but rings should be worn……. 🥰
Beautiful collection! I am crazy about antique jewelry as well and the Victorian era is one of my fave eras. There are so many beautiful designs. I love Georgian as well. The top that you're wearing in this video is so pretty, goes perfectly with your hair color.

I have an unusual ring mint condition that some auction houses woul like for their auctions Don't really want to sell but only fits little finger afraid it might slip off it is dated 1st year Victoria's reiign with her hair in a high bun4cabachon amethysts dark purple grey pearls 1rose cut diamond very interesting

I’m 60… about every 7-10 years many, not all, but a lot of people change their interests. I didn’t fall in love with antiques until I was about 25. I have a collection of antique jewelry, kitchen gadgets, I love love my old cast iron pots!
I feel sad when people change things I love, but dang it freedom and free will grrrrrrrr 😂😂😂
