- In honor of Kipchoge beating Bekele in the 2018 London Marathon, I thought it would be only fitting to upload a video of the 2 icons of the sport throwing down on the track from 2008. In this video, Kenenisa Bekele throws down an epic last 400 meters in 53 seconds to set a new Olympic Record and bring home the gold for Ethiopia. Kipchoge, a very talented runner, had a decent last 400 meters, but he was no match for Bekele on the day.

Kipchoge has run 12min 46 for 5000 too so he has plenty of pace anyways

not really....this was his 5th world championship/Olympics (2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008). Yes, he started young in 2003 but he was 24 which isn't super young for Track standards. Bekele was 26 so not much difference between the two in age

@@hairgang1743 Yes, he did and that was a great race by him beating both Bekele and El G in 2003....but Kipchoge never beat Bekele on the track again after that race...Also, this video was about the 2008 race so why comment about a race 5 years prior?

It wasn't so much the 53-point as the 60-61-61-61 that preceded it. Bekele wasn't about to let Paris 2003 or Athens 2004 occur again.

not even close....I'd agree Kipchoge is the greatest marathoner but Bekele was so much better than him on the track and x-country and is only 2 seconds off his marathon WR (not consistent like Kipchoge as well in the marathon). BUT Bekele is still 16-10 in head to head races. 3 Olympic golds (vs 1 Kipchoge), 5 world champion golds (vs 1 Kipchoge), 11 x-country golds (vs. 0 Kipchoge). WRs at 5,000m (9 seconds faster than Kipchoge's PR) and 10,000m (30 seconds faster than Kipchoge's PR) and faster in the 1,500m and 3,000m. Also funny you make this claim on a video that shows Bekele leading 9 of the 12 laps of an Olympic 5,000m final and absolutely blowing the doors off Kipchoge on the last lap. How is Kipchoge the all-round GOAT again???

@@key-ur5vz ????ummm, no one...Nothing I wrote yesterday has changed. Bekele is still easily the all round distance GOAT. Yes, Kipchoge is the best and most consistent marathon runner but Bekele absolutely dominated him in all other discplines (track and x-country). And even if he is not consistent in the marathon, Bekele is only 2 seconds away from Kipchoge's WR (2:01:39 vs. 2:01:41). So again, tell me how Kipchoge is the all-round GOAT??

Kim Angelo yeah, INEOS was a great run and very impressive...but not a real race. What other race do you have 41 rotating pace makers at all times during the race??
And, like I said, I’d agree Kipchoge is the best marathoner but GOAT distance runner belongs to Bekele..easily!
