  • Illegal and destructive fishing gear is responsible for the accelerated depletion of marine wildlife in the Mediterranean Sea. For the second year in a row, Sea Shepherd has partnered with the Italian authorities on Operation Siso to find and confiscate illegal driftnets -- aka "Walls of Death" -- in the Tyrrhenian Sea's Aeolian Islands, a UNESCO heritage site.
After two months of successful patrols onboard the M/Y Sam Simon, the campaign has now come to an end for the season. But until these waters are officially protected from all fishing activities and devices that threaten the rich biodiversity of marine wildlife, Sea Shepherd will be back.
