Congrats on the acquisition. I have a collector friend that met Mr. Carter at a convention as a teenager in the 70s. He wrote to him throughout the years and once was able to visit him at his home and got to view much of his collection. He talks frequently about how much he admired and appreciated Mr Carter's kindness to him as a young man even more than his extraordinary collection.
Great story......similar to the "Church" comic find.....ah yes..the "gloss"...very similar to perfectly stored comics...and how collectors feel about them..... If a card or a comic is truly pristine...I've heard you can still smell the ink emanating from the piece....wow!
Incredible. I'm going looking for a Lionel Carter pedigree SGC slab, just to have one. I was also at the point he appeared, taken aback by Bill Mastro. I don't think I've ever seen him on video or heard him speak before. So that's the guy who trimmed the Wagner...wow.
Awesome piece really enjoyed learning some of the history of Lionel...maybe I am the rebirth?!?! Since 1978 i have opened wax and built sets just like he did...certainly mine aren’t the iconic sets he handled yet the same philosophy...pretty cool to think about! Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely love this video just fantastic I didn't know much about Lionel Carter so I really appreciate you posting this video brother and also congratulations on adding a historical piece to your collection just fantastic!
Gotta give it up for the Maestro folks for really getting it done, getting an epic collector his cherished collection back after they had been stolen. That is just amazing and I'm sure they made the tragedy far less tragic for this man who is the pinnacle of card collectors.
They were the ones behind the robbery, of course they “helped” him get his collection back. Well the “majority” of his collection. I’m sure they made off with a few high dollar pieces.
I absolutely believe they robbed him. Allen knew what cards Lionel had and where they were kept. Mastro then magically tracks down some of the stolen cards? Very very suspicious. Then they convince Lionel to sell the cards through Mastro auctions, of course, so they can make more money off of the guy. I truly believe they committed this robbery, and they need to be held accountable for it. It disgusts me every time I watch this video. The plan for the robbery is taking place right on video while Doug Allen is sitting in Lionel's home, scoping out his cards.
After watching this last night I went on ebay and looked for some of these. All the good condition Carters were too much for me but i was able to find 2 low grade sgc Carter cards. 1 for 49 bucks and the other for 39.
Great video. Yes, I actually made it through the whole thing and learned something. You did a great job tying together that card to this video. Keep up the great work DGC.
I’ve watched this several times since you posted it last year and I find it very interesting to watch. I find myself wondering if Mastro was ever a genuine collector or was he always in it for money? He seems genuinely fascinated by Lionel Carter....but clearly had an agenda. Doug Allen is a bit more obvious. I’m sure we all sincerely enjoy the value portion of collecting as it does make it more fun but no one will ever forget what he did. Thank You for posting this. I think it is cool that you have a piece of Lionel’s collection and value it for what it is. Real collectors can feel his pain by basically being forced to part with his collection simply because it became too valuable...something he spent his whole life building. Kind Regards, Pat
Wow...the amount of those cards he has...they gotta easily be 90% from over a century ago. Cool. Yah I wouldnt tell people either aside from family or my best friends lol Sucks that this colleciton went unknown and not lauded and beloved by people because of fear of thievery; which was warranted because part of the cards were stolen uring the break in they said happend. Dang people. GREAT VID THOUGH! Hope they got at least a $million+.
When someone tells you it doesn’t matter about what they go for; you better be suspicious of that person! Hope the carter family didn’t get ripped off!
This is great, thanks for posting! I cherish all of my Lionel Carter cards, including the Rube Waddell portrait at 24:02 Have you listened to the phone interview about his T206 Plank?
I noticed something interesting in the video... does anybody know if Lionel Carter kept multiples of his cards? I ask because at 23:25 you see his '38 Goudey Greenberg in his album and it has a diamond cut, but at 32:49 they show a Greenberg that graded an SGC 10, and it is now perfectly centered and perfectly square. I hope to God that that is not the same card after being trimmed. I know Mastro was a real piece of you know what so I wouldn't put it past him. Also, the SGC 10 Greenberg has the two top corners flared at the tips, which I've read is a telltale sign of a card being trimmed. What do you guys think?
Interesting observation, but it's not the same card. The Greenberg at 23:25 is the 1938 Goudey with captions variation. The one at 32:49 is the 1938 Goudey without captions variation.
Tex ThaCollector They were both convicted of fraud and did time in federal prison. They sold make memorabilia and ripped off hundreds of good hard working people.
"Nnnnnnn K"? Mastro and Allen's names could have been the kings of the hobby. Instead their names live in infamy as the worst of the hobby. All that is wrong with the hobby.
10:15 "I have it on my wall" - Doug Allen. The wall of his jail cell.
That Kling presents itself as much much better than an SGC 4. Sweet pickup and great video!
Great collection. I admire vintage and his collection for the hobby. Finally got one of his card and love it.. got a Phil Rizzuto Leaf rookie SGC 7.
This was absolutely fantastic, thank you for uploading this
That was awesome! I love to hear the history of card collecting. Lionel Carter defined card collecting at its best. Thanks for sharing!
Great video his collection was amazing love the history behind other collectors and baseball cards in general.

Dustin Bellinger wow that would have been great to correspond with him back in the day
This is the type of video that all vintage collectors need to see! Thanks so much for sharing! #VintageForeva

@@DeadGuyCardboard It was, no none of us had any of his cards
@@kennycarter8179 If you search "Lionel Carter" on eBay, you'll come across his cards to buy from time to time.

Great video. Never seen that one before. Glad a real collector as yourself was able to obtain one.
Thx so mutch for sharing all of that history, awesome, thx so much !This was awesome, really was.
At first I thought the collections were all glued in the scrap books but then he mentions card mounts.Good thing he did it that way.
Quite a story, and very cool that you've snagged that piece of history! Well done.
Wow!! I learned new things watching this. Amazing video. Thanks for uploading!
15:45 His wife has the same reaction when hearing Bill Mastro's name as I do.
Haha yeah they were both on to his shenanigans
Reaction: Priceless.
First time hearing about him. He was a true gentleman and didn't get hung up on value but the thrill of the hobby.
Sooooo cool. Thanks for sharing this. What comes through from Lionel is the love of the cards themselves and money is secondary. Wonderful.
Thanks a million for sharing the Carter video. Congratulations on adding one of his cards to your collection.
Wonderful story and collection.
Very cool-- thanks for sharing!
Fantastic footage. Thanks for sharing, a great documentation of a true pioneer of the hobby.
This was amazing to watch. Thanks a million for sharing this. So awesome.

Fantastic video! I really enjoyed seeing it, thanks a lot for sharing
Anyo else think that Allen and Mastro may have orchestrated the robbery?

That's a great pick up! Really cool to add a hobby pioneer to your collection.
@@DeadGuyCardboard rewatching 😁
Thats a nice card, look how the red just pops the card with the white borders.
Awesome video! A true pioneer.
So glad to learn about this! Thx for sharing!
Great doc and thank you
I think we can safely say who masterminded that robbery...
Great video. Yes, I actually made it through the whole thing and learned something. You did a great job tying together that card to this video. Keep up the great work DGC.

DGC, This was INCREDIBLE!

Thanks for watching. Yeah, it's a shame what happened to Lionel.
To a guy that was really a true gentleman of the hobby. Honest and innocent.
This was great; I'm glad posted this.
Enjoyed as if they were mine.
Holy Shit!! Absolutely Amazing!!

Lionel Carter got burned really bad by Doug Allen and Bill Mastro. They are scumbags!!
This is great, thanks for posting!
I cherish all of my Lionel Carter cards, including the Rube Waddell portrait at 24:02
Have you listened to the phone interview about his T206 Plank?
iscafan One of your videos showing Lionel Carters was my first introduction to him. Yeah I heard that interview. Great interview
These still don't float my boat like PSA 10 80's junk wax.
Incredible video
Glad he trimmed the photo corners and not the cards.
Speechless

Holy Grail 🙌🙌
Great video!! What a beautiful collection 💓. I wonder what the 52 Mantle graded?
How and why was SGC chosen to grade the cards and not PSA? Thanks for the video.
very nice
Great video loved it but I do think Bill & Doug Stole the cards the first time >> They seem very odd to me..
Wouldn't that be a twist.
Tex ThaCollector They were both convicted of fraud and did time in federal prison. They sold make memorabilia and ripped off hundreds of good hard working people.
I truly do believe that Allen and Mastro stole Lionel's cards. These guys are disgusting.
Woooou! Tengo más de 3 mil baseball hide I will beging to looking what really have
Cool video bro
Dou Allen was sentenced to 57 months in prison in 2014. WTF!?
"Nnnnnnn K"? Mastro and Allen's names could have been the kings of the hobby. Instead their names live in infamy as the worst of the hobby. All that is wrong with the hobby.
its a shame these scumbags took advantage of carter
Yeah, it's really sad he was forced to sell his collection.
Who robs senior citizens? Good Lord
Doug Allen and Bill Mastro. That's who.
In our lives we look at things better about all things in life but this guy acts like that his brain is missing things in it.
Who disliked this video?!?!
Probably the guy who stole Lionel's collection. :)
I did!
