  • Getting MIDI from your DAW onto the Deluge is a little weird, but also opens up all kinds of fun possibilities. In this video, we'll see how it works and mess around with some classic Zelda VGM.

    I did something similar when I replaced my Novation Circuit with the Deluge. I used MIDI to transfer my favorite songs from one to the other. No PC involved, of course, but the process was similar. I have sometimes wanted to have better support in the Deluge to directly import MIDI files, but I think almost everyone has a DAW of some sort that can play back MIDI for this sort of work.

      Any regrets? I have a circuit and it's great, but the sampling on the deluge is very attractive to me.

    • @mbessey
      @mbessey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No regrets. The Deluge can seem kind of overwhelming at first, but it's actually very straightforward to use. Almost all of the shortcuts are screen-printed on the case. Having infinite pattern lengths and arranger mode is much easier to use than chaining patterns on the Circuit is.

    I just wanted to say THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge with us!! 🤗 I'm also still impressed by how versatile the Deluge is and by how good it sounds! ;-) PS: Would you mind doing a video about how to create templates in Ableton and Deluge, so that one can sequence up to 16 VSTs (sitting on 16 different channels in Ableton) via Deluge? Also, can this be "bi-directional".... e.g. you program a sequence in Deluge and then you add or remove notes on the piano roll in Ableton and Deluge will take these changes into account? (This may be obvious procedure for many of you but I'm still lost when it comes to MIDI). IF such a video has already been made.... thanks to point me in the right direction!! Cheers!!! 😉👌

    Talking about midi fun, I downloaded the excellent (and free!) Stochas VST sequencer the other day, which allows you to set the probability of a note sounding, which I used to control a Volca Keys. Very basic, and utterly hypnotic. @mbessey 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There's a weird kind of feedback loop going on there - early video game sounds were primitive because of hardware limitations. A whole generation of musicians and producers grew up on them, so now companies like Synthstrom make their "init patch" kind of retro chip-tune-ish, which means you can recreate that sound really easily.
