  • Over the last several years one or more sun bears has become accustomed to feeding on the scrap food left over from Ban Krang Campsite in Kaeng Krachan NP. I filmed one of these bears briefly a few years ago, but today I had the chance to film him for quite a long time as he was completely engrossed in a large pile of food. This is not how I would like to film wild animals, but nonetheless it was an amazing experience being able to get so close to this guy.

      Thanks Phil... yes, indeed it is. I hope in time to get footage of all our large mammal species here, but I've still got a long way to go.

      In can understand that... I must have 'just missed it' about ten times, but at least I have seen it twice. On this particular day someone had dumped a ton of food, so it was around for a long time. ;

      Thank you Richard. Do you mean the European Summer.... July - August kind of time? Be advised that at that time only the lower half of the park is open, but that includes Ban Krang Campsite where the bears are often seen. It will likely be raining a lot, too, but that can also mean more reptiles and amphibians. I also intend to visit the park several more times over the coming months.... maybe see you there.

      @@thailandwild4897 that would be great. I know that it’s rainy season..unfortunately being a teacher that is the only time I can get back to see my mum back in the u.k with a quick stop in Thailand en route. Had booked to come last year but everything got cancelled due to a typhoon. Hoping for better luck this year👍

      Ah yes... you are in Japan, of course. I was a teacher here in Thailand for many years, so my annual diary also often revolved around trips to see family members during the school holidays.
