Bill Fichtner is a really solid, normal guy.
I met him at a hotel gym in the Prague Hilton over the course of a week. I was in town for a conference. We would both show up at about the same time and do our own routines.
He asked me once about my University of Georgia shirt and that started a bit of a conversation that continued over the next several days.

There was a man named Alfred Johnson who worked in the fishing industry when they did it by sailing big boats out to where the cod were and dropping a hundred dories each about twenty feet long in the water, then picking those dories back up with their two men crews a couple days later full of Atlantic cod. Johnson had an argument in a bar (epic) with friends of his that a single man could sail one of those dories across the Atlantic. To prove he was right, Johnson in 1876, outfitted a dory that he named the Centennial, and sailed it from Gloucester Massachusetts to Abercastle Wales (with a stopover in Nova Scotia after his rigging was damaged in a storm). This was the FIRST time someone had singlehandedly sailed a boat across the Atlantic. When asked by reporters why he did it, he responded, “Because I was a damned fool, just as they said I was.”
Alfred “Centennial” Johnson, a man whose history should be taught in school…. There was a time when men in America had big dreams and proved themselves when people thought they were fools or said something couldn’t be done…. Even the foolish ones…. I wish they would make a movie about Johnson, and I wish William Fichtner would play Alfred “Centennial” Johnson……

I'm sure if you had to name a "badass" US military branch or unit a lot of people would say the Navy SEAL's or the Marines but the Army SOCOM's Green Beret's and Army Rangers are complete badasses too. Hollywood doesn't feature them in to many movies and they seem to be forgotten.
If you enjoy military themed documentaries you should check out the top Ranger competition.

Happy Birthday William Fichtner. Your awesome legend. I love The Dark Knight. Batman is awesome, love it. Also I love, Independence Day 2 Resurgence, koolest alien movie. Black Hawk Down is incredible. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, badass, love Soldier movies and games is pretty good. Grand Theft Auto Vice City and San Andreas is better. I played Vice City and San Andreas when I was 10 or 12. It's complicated. U gotta love the action. May the Peace be with u Ken Rosenberg and Sandman. From Harlingen Texas. November 27, 1956

The one thing Both Norm Hooten and Tom Satterly (Delta Vets who were there) said pissed them off about the movie was the bullshit rivalry between Delta Force and Ranger Captain Steele. They insisted there is no way they would have disrespected a Ranger Captain like that.

Sometimes the movie follows the book very closely. Blackhawk Down is such a movie. Mark Bowden is an outstanding and very detailed writer. His other books, Killing Pablo (Escobar) and Hue 1968 are incredible true stories and very well written. BTW Ft. Bragg is where the Delta Force guys supposedly are schooled. Just saying.
