For me chainging dentists was the best decision ever. My old dentist never discussed anything, he just took the decission. I had several fillings without numbing, and he didn't seemed to care about the pain. He almost never took x-rays, and staff was chanching very quickly. I always felt everything was about money. Also I was very anxious and too shy to say anything. Luckily I moved and found alovely new dentist. She is very kind, explains everything and takes me into the decissionmaking process. Altough I had a lot of fillings done, I now am only a little nervous and taking very good care of my teeth because of their instructions. Wished I made a switch years ago!
Ive just switched from a dentist like that and glad I’ve switched!!! My last appointment when I said that there was issues I got well we’ve been amazing. I knew I wasn’t going back and glad I wasn’t but didn’t say anything
My old dentist gave me so much anxiety I avoided the dentist for two years. I always felt that he wasn't thorough for my actual concerns. Once, i went with an obvious cavity (there was some visible decay) and he completely ignored it. I went to a new dentist today and finally learned what a dental hygienist was and got my plaque scraped for the first time ever as well as my first ever fluoride varnish
I just started seeing a new dentist and was really surprised by the first appointment. The hygienist was the one to show me around the office, full tour. From exam room to X-ray\mri room to the sanitation room, even the dentists personal office! It was the longest dentist appointment I had ever had! The hygienist was so thorough as was the dentist! They even caught the fact that the previous dentist had flipped my X-rays and marked the wrong teeth for root canals! I am a week post surgery now (quite a lot of work to be done because of everything my previous dentists had done to me but she was able to save so many teeth that had been marked for extraction or root canals!) and my teeth feel great! I have a two more appointments till my teeth are at 100% but for the first time in my life I’m not scared to go see my dentist!
I had a dentist who left two cottons inside my two teeth while doing fillings, and I ended up developing cysts, infections, and lost both of my teeth. I immediately got dental implants to avoid my teeth from closing the gaps & bone loss. My parents filed a lawsuit against the dentist.
I am a hygienist turned general dentist. I have done all of my own hygiene for almost 30 years. I refer out endo, placing implants, most extractions, ortho, perio surgeries - things I don't enjoy doing. I do bondings, crowns, bridges, restore implants..... I have a small office and I don't make a lot of money. Just bc you are a dentist, it doesn't mean you have to do every single dental procedure out there. I enjoyed hygiene and wanted to do more. But once I learned more, I found I don't enjoy every single aspect of dentistry. So, I stick to what I like doing and let the specialists do their thing.
1- do they have a dental hygienist 2- gum checks 3- how long does a typical cleaning appointment last? 4- how often do they take x-rays 5- infection control (ask for tour of sterilisation area) Do they do procedures in office or get referrals? Referrals are important. Find someone who is informative.
I was very happy with my dentist and after 12 years, he left that practice and went somewhere else for a couple of years. Then my hygienist retired early. I stayed there for about 2 more years and then found that my original dentist opened his own practice and I went back to him. I was so happy he came back. I trust him implicitly and he is honest about any diagnosis there might be.
I miss my old dentist. He retired (after 50 years i believe) but he was a master of his craft and an awesome upstanding individual. I never had a BAD expereince with him and his team for the 19 years I went there. I have to find a new dentist now :(
My old dentist didn’t wait for the numb stuff to kick in during filling, they rudely judged my teeth when I was 12 and they were very rough and impatient. And they only talked about money and never discussed decisions with me and what I’m comfortable with
I've had this same exact experience when I was 12 also isnt that crazy? I'm still to afraid of going to the dentist im 20 years now and that last time I went to the dentist was when I was 12. I just remembered then working on my tooth with the sams problem as you they didn't wait for the numbing to do its thing so they started working on my tooth while I sat there in the procedure just crying the whole time. It was hell. So now I'm afraid to go the dentist...
Definitely time for a new dentist, my dentist is always saying I have like 5 million problems and gave me a crown at 17.... I really don’t think I needed a crown.... he also is very impatient with any kind of filling app and doesn’t wait until you’re completely numb and also uses a prophy jet which I absolutely hate because I’m sensitive and I tell them I don’t like it and they don’t care
Mine decided to let the novacan wear off. And their office is open concept. I really don't need to hear others medical issues, nor do they need to hear mine🙄
@@amyosgood6044 I actually went to an office that was open concept. And it really made me uncomfortable that other patients were discussing their medical issues. As I feel like those issues should be private.
My doctor is from India living in the US and she is the best! So sweet and always lays a light hand on my shoulder to check I’m okay or if I need numbing! Love her and the staff, I really lucked out 💜✨
After watching this, I realised how terrible my dentist is! When I go for my cleaning and general check up, I’m done in around 5 minutes, the worst part is, I have never felt any rinse and suction when I’m with him. He gets the mirror and scaler and scrapes a bit of the plaque off. I’m 19 years old and I’m dating a 29 year old dentist but he isn’t my dentist, and I’m thinking to go to him. I’m currently in dental hygiene school (because of you, Whitney!) and I’ve even noticed at 2 years into dental hygiene school how bad he is. Whenever I come home from the dentist, my boyfriend always checks my teeth in case he didn’t do it properly and for as long as I can remember, my.p boyfriend practically cleans my teeth again after I come home because of the terrible job he did. I’m transferring to my boyfriends office now! My first dental appointment with him is on this coming Tuesday! Wish my luck, haha. 🙌
Please tell me your still with your boyfriend or ? If nothing else maybe he isn’t your boyfriend but is still your dentist?? I wish I could find a good dentist and hygienist.😢
One thing I am looking for is if the dentist and workers don’t yell at you or scold you. I don’t need to be scolded. I need help getting my mouth healthy. That is one reason I haven’t been to the dentist. That and insurance. Lol! Now I have insurance. Praise God! :)
AWESOME! I will never understand the dentists that do not have dental hygienists! I had one from day one! Soooooo important! Every "routine cleaning" with my hygienists is 1 hour. Scaling and Root Planing can be much longer. And the Hygienist' also have assistants available to them for many things (charting, x-rays, etc., etc.) As always great job!
im finally 10 months into my dental hygiene program and we are about to get our operatories and start seeing patients very soon. So excited. At Fortis college fyi
Thanks so much for this. I went to the dentist for the first time after the pandemic and was glad that my appointment was short. I thought that my visit was strange only after I left. The dentist only looked at the X-rays (I think)and did not actually look in my mouth like most dentists do. He just asked if my teeth hurt and that I had a weird hook-shaped cavity. He also criticized the root canal and crown that I got previously. Something about one root still being there. The dental hygienist numbed around my tooth line with a topical gel while cleaning which I was grateful for but that was it for my visit. I was out in fifteen minutes after being told I needed to get a root canal on the tooth. I don’t think he’s wrong but I also don’t trust that I don’t have other issues. I’ll be checking with my insurance but I think I will pony up for second opinion.
After seeing many dentist what I consider a good dentist. 1. One who Stitches the wound after a tooth is pulled so that you don't get a dry socket. 2. They use a rubber dental dam to catch the toxic amalgam from going down your throat. 3. They have a good digital x-ray machine. If they show you an x-ray and it looks all blurry, I wouldn't pay for it. 4. If they say you get what you pay for. It's another way of saying we are expensive and if you go somewhere else you will not get as good of a job. 5. If they want to see you right away, or the next day. Red flag. 6. Another red flag is if they don't tell you the price before you go in. They should at least give you rough estimates of a cavity per side, a crown, tooth pulling, x-rays, cleanings. Be careful of the ones they give you the price for a crown, but then charge you for the build underneath the crown. Be sure to ask him if there's a build under the crown you have to pay for that's extra. Ask them how much it would cost to remove the crown or clean underneath it if something goes bad.
I been going to the same dental practice all my life, and seen a number of dentist, as we can either go NHS or private in the United Kingdom , the dentist I see been seeing for 13 years, and she has owned the practice for 10 years, always talks us through our x-rays , does x-rays every 12-18 months unless we have problems before.
would love more videos on children's dental needs and pediatric dentistry. My kid is having an iv sedation procedure at a dental office and would love to know how experienced you are with this! thanks for all your videos
Yes thank you it all make sense now everything u just said I heard it before but I just ignored it.thanks to you everything came back to me and I’m much more educated about my teeth thank you again for your quick response I will keep u up date thanks again
My first dentist didn't give me a treatment plan but said, go and come back when you have money! Like huh? Obnoxious fellow! Never went back when my filling fell off *sigh* and I'm much much happier for it! Got a kick ass dentist now😁
I’m currently looking for a new dentist. This is the second time they “clean” my teeth under 5 MINUTES. I work in a dental office and I see the doctor that I work for take so much longer than that sometimes even an hour and a half.
Hey guys, I got through it. I was scared of seeing the dentist for 10 years. I'm all done and ready to go. All I can day is, the feeling is so worth it man. Take care of your teeth, cause these bad boys have lots of self esteem control over our minds.
@@nativeangel in your position now same age. Lot of teeth issues. No pain(yet) gonna try to get it fixed before it escalates further. I'm just worried about finding a good dentist. Because I'm far from a pushover.
Yikes... every dentist that I’ve been to have failed the appointment time rule. At first I was suspicious, but when I switched dentists and it still turned out the same, I thought it was just me.
I went to my dentist today and tht was the quickest cleaning I ever had. When I was on my dads insurance, Blue Cross Blue Shield I went to a dental office and they were very professional. They did my X-Rays and explained I had some build up and that my wisdom teeth needed to be removed (even tho I didn’t have any pain at all) that for Me was questionable bc Wht wld be the reasoning if I’m not complaining? Then her hygienist? Or dental nurse stayed in the room and held my mouth open with those tools so the other dentist could clean my teeth. I really liked that type of support and wasn’t sure if it was standard. The cleaning it self took some time and when I left I felt like my teeth were squeaky clean. But then my dentist told me I’m at risk for gingivitis and I was shocked and scared like what? How? I can’t remember if she mentioned anything about cavities. But long story short, I ended up nva going back due to fear of getting my teeth removed. So 3-4 years later I age out of my dads insurance and COVID hits. I lose my job and get on government insurance . I find a doctor with pretty good reviews. The office was clean staff was nice. But somethings that were odd 1) she did ask me when’s the last time I been to a dentist , but didn’t request any dental records or XRays 2) we went over the x rays together and she said she didn’t see any cavities she didn’t even see my chipped/cracked tooth on the X-ray (I thought tht was weird cuz my other dentist saw my cracked tooth on the x ray) but she reassured she’s gona check my teeth to be sure . So she said she notice my teeth had some deep ness too them and that she didn’t see tht on the X-ray and if she doesn’t see it on their she won’t work on it? I was soooo confused like huh? 3) she saw my chipped cracked tooth and she said it needed a covering. She said I had a little build up on my bottom teeth. 4) she did all the cleaning by herself no helping hand like the first one. 5) she gave no report on my gums at all and didn’t even mention gingivitis like the first one. 5) the cleaning itself took less thn 10 minutes Idk who to trust who to believe bc the second one got me thinking I take real good care of my teeth when I know when I’m depressed I can go 1-3 days without ever brushing (just being honest) but let her tell it I must be amazing at brushing. I don’t normally floss either and I would think a dentist would be able to see that and make mention. Idk if the first dentist was honest or trying to upsell but I know this other dentist was too fast and that was weird.... Sorry for all my typos I’m using my phone

15 minutes! omg that's giving me anxiety! of course i just graduated and they gave us hours with a patient! i know that's not real life but we were told cleaning appointments need to be 45 minutes in the real world. i dunno if i can do perio charting, oral cancer screening, address chief complaints deposit removal and polishing while giving POH in 15 minutes...
15 minutes gives me anxiety too because like I said in the video, I do not feel a thorough, proper cleaning can be completed that quickly. Now, talking about 45 minutes cleanings - that is more likely. I totally know its stressful after getting hours and multiple appointments during school, but I promise you will get there with no problem! Sending you positive toothy vibes!
My hygienist didn't scale between my last molar and my wisdom teeth on any of them. I'm still having issues because of it. Is it an oversight or is that protocol?
Charlie Nonya 3rd molars (wisdom teeth) are very hard to clean (for you at home and your hygienist too!) which is why dental professionals will sometimes recommend having them removed if it appears they are accumulating plaque and calculus. I always do my very best to scale all of the molars... and if I am concerned that I am not cleaning the crown and root completely - I will explain that to my patient and the dentist. Don’t be afraid to *kindly* bring your concerns to your hygienists attention. It makes me sad that patients aren’t getting the care they deserve. I once almost forgot to floss under a patients lingual bar retainer (a metal wire on the back side of teeth to keep them from moving) and I couldn’t believe I had spaced it! I was so glad he brought it to my attention. I hope you find a great hygienist who really cares about your oral health! (Not saying the last one didn’t because she may have made a mistake, like I have) ♥️
I don’t know if I should stay with my dentist. I know they mean well and they do most of these things but they have been really bad with communication thinking I’m not going to understand or something.
1. Ask if they have a dental hygienist 2. Gum checks (periocharting) 3. Appointment length (needs to be more than 15 minutes) 4. How often do they take x-ray? (At least once every 3 years) 5. Infection control (Clean office, wearing gloves, ask for the sterilization station.) The only acceptable time they're allowed to not wear gloves is if you are a model at p*rnhub. 6. Make sure the professionals give you your options. 7. Make sure you are comfy with your doctor. 8. Places to find good dentist: find local dental map at teeth talk girl, referrals, accredited dental school if you are poor. 9. Always trust your instincts
truly nothing to be worried about! they numb you up so you don't feel a thing! here is my root canal video if you want to watch the procedure: th-cam.com/video/oBGqPBDg3tw/w-d-xo.html
I had a dentist who just looked at my X-ray but didn't look in my mouth and just came into the exam room and just pointed to the tooth that was chipped and my other tooth next to it on the screen. He didn't explain anything to me and told me what he wanted to do. Didn't allow me to make my decision! The two front teeth he wanted to extract both and do implants. When I went to my dentist I have now she looked at my mouth and explained everything to me and discussed my treatment options. She supported my decision not to extract the teeth and do the crown procedure. I was a nervous wreck and at my breaking point. I was so stressed and my anxiety was extreme. Now I am at a dental office who I feel like they care about patients not the money.
Ms. Lady 🌹 You are always spot on 👌👍🙏 I just Love your channel 👏 👌 😉 Always great tips on keeping my mouth healthy 👉 Thank you You're the best 😘 PEACE 🌹
My dentist does the cleaning and check gums and my last one didn’t even check my gums from a little kid till an adult. My last dentist wouldn’t take x rays and now my new one takes them by routine!!! I’m glad I get to choose what I have now and do what is needed instead of leaving it.
i had the best dentist i could ever imagine. he remembered things i told him during the first appointment, even though it wasn't tooth related conversation, let alone he was very professional. that really made me confident about him. unfortunately, he left the clinic and moved to another city. the one i was sent to instead of him couldn't even remember my name, neither the reasons for my appointments. she had all the data in my file, on the screen just in front of her eyes. she is the worst dentist i've ever been to. definitely going to switch for another one the next session.
I always feel like it's a red flag if a medical professional doesn't take the time to read over a chart. They should have a general idea of what you came in for and what complaints you have. If they're so busy or distracted that they can't give the appointment their full focus, something is wrong.
i just got some braces done and these dentists didnt advise me or my dad on anything. didnt tell me anything about hygiene or advice or anything at all practically. just the typical 'eat soft foods and wash your teeth' like ok? i feel like they didnt share enough information and my dad didnt really know what to really ask. besides that they didnt explain to me how the braces were going to shift my teeth into the right direction and how to take care of them or anything of that sort, ive been on youtube browsing trying to find an explication myself. they also didnt do any cleaning before applying my braces. so what do i do?
If you are prone to cavities and/or want to protect against cavities, rinsing with a fluoride/anti-cavity rinse after brushing and before bed is a great idea. Here is my video explaining the different mouthwashes: teethtalkgirl.com/videos/best-mouthwash?rq=mouthwash Hope this helps!
What if I like my dentist and the staff but they don't have a hygienist? I'm actually not 100% sure whether mine does since I just started going there but I really like the dentist and everyone else who works there. The dentist did my cleaning but it was the first one I ever had (please don't judge, I grew up poor and we couldn't afford dental care) so I'm wondering if she did it because I needed a VERY thorough cleaning. I had a lot of cavities but the dentist has been great with filling them and making sure I'm comfortable and not in any pain. I've had 3 appointments there and I have 1 more to go to have all the cavities taken care of. I know the facility is clean and I've heard the dentist and assistant (or maybe she is a hygienist? I'm not sure, she helps the dentist with the fillings and charting cavities, I don't know the difference between an assistant and a hygienist) discuss autoclaving instruments so I know they're keeping things clean. They are also requiring all patients to rinse with Listerine and wash their hands before they go to the room so that's another layer of cleanliness.
some dentists do prefer to do their own cleanings - especially for new patients! totally not a red flag! it just SOMETIMES goes hand in hand with dentists that don't care to have a hygienist - and some are the opposite and care EXTRA to do cleanings! hope this helps! it sounds like you found a comfortable great office! wishing you continued dental care :)
Is it bad that my dentist seems like he always has temps for hygienists? Not that they do a bad job (kind of slow since they don't know where everything is) but it seems kind of sketch. I guess he's trying to save money by not having them on insurance or something, plus he's in his late sixties so maybe hygienists don't want to commit to working for him? Follow up vid suggestion would be how to you tell if you don't have a good dentist? I think a lot of people wouldn't know unless there was something really egregious.
I agree with you, Jesseca. As a hygienist, I have seen it time and time again... if an office is constantly using temps - red flag. If the dental office was good, reputable, and providing quality care for patients, they would be able to keep a hygienist around.
Sketch, yes. In my area Temps get paid more bc the agency makes sure thier pay is the normal average for the town/ city (dentists mostly want to pay less). So i would say super sketch if that guy is paying even more bc no one wants to work there
I am happy to say that I found my perfect dentist. It seems like me and the hygienist have developed a bit of a friendship when it comes to talking about dental health. She also allowed me to bring noise canceling headphones to my appointment. Because the sounds drive me crazy. I would like your opinion on some things that happened at a previous dentist. The hygienist scaled my teeth, but she did not polish them. Would anyone consider this a red flag?
I know some were skipping polish during the pandemic bc of aerosols. Some won't if you have severe dry mouth. They taught "selective polishing" in school (only polish the teeth that are stained) it removes enamel technically (not a significant amount/enamel remineralizes) but I polish every tooth. Depends. Maybe she didn't want to bother you with the noise it makes. It's considered cosmetic. I'd just ask her. I'm sure she'll be glad to explain. If she gets defensive, maybe that's A red flag
@@BB-mb7ov that is what the hygienist does at my office. She does the x-rays. Checks my jaw area. Runs her fingers up and down the area to make sure that all the bones and muscles are working properly. She does gum charting, and she does scaling as well as thorough polishing. The whole front of the office was practically raving about how amazing she is. She did ask me last time when she was scaling that if she can use the ultrasonic, but she was concerned that it might bother me because of the fact that I was wearing noise canceling headphones. I then told her that I will raise my left hand if anything does bother me as we previously agreed during the first appointment.
@@BB-mb7ov my reasoning for leaving the other clinic, is because the hygienist seemed to get a bit irritated when I asked her to describe what was going on. This is especially important to me and because of the fact that I am visually impaired. Also, it was clear to me that she probably has never seen a patient who is visually impaired before, because when she came out, and saw that I cant see she started to breathe kind of quickly, and I then mentioned are you OK. I don’t know why she did it. But it was definitely something I noticed.
@@andylopez142 then you did the right thing by leaving. Some people are just unhappy at work and impatient. I thought the hygienist who let you wear the headphones didn't polish. I misunderstood. I'm glad you have awesome dental care now! That's great. If they got impatient about a visual impairment they should find a different career. Good on you for finding better quality providers 😊
@@BB-mb7ov no. One hygienist that would not polish didn’t even look at my chart. Because I had some request because of some sensory issues. And I asked her if she looked at it. And she said no. And that is why I left. I would like to mention, at my last appointment, the hygienist after she was done scaling, she asked me if it was OK if she can use the ultrasonic to make sure that everything was thoroughly done, she showed some concern because of the fact that I was wearing noise canceling headphones. So she was concerned that the sound might bother me. So, she said that if it does bother me to raise my left hand. Which of course I obliged.
Q- at my new dental group, I met the dentist once and after that I only see the hygienist. At my old group the dentist always looked at my teeth. I do like the hygienist but wonder why he doesn’t glance.
I've had dentists in the past who didn't bother to do even a quick look and others who did. I would avoid offices where the dentist doesn't at least take a quick peak.
extraction before ortho is a common thing, because maybe your teeth need more space than currently available in your jaw while they are getting perfectly aligned throughout ur braces treatment - so some teeth at the back may have to be removed to make that space for others. That being said, you can get second opinion though, in case you actually don't need it but ur ortho is suggesting that to make more $$.
Just got a new dentist and for the first time I had a ultrasonic scalar used on me. The process took forever it hurts and I was scared because my old dentist was for kids and he was just quick and he used a hand scalar and never really cleaned my teeth good
What a great channel, there's a reason you have so many subscribers! Interesting bit on insurance, I just researched mine and decided to use a denstist that doesn't even take it but i feel will be the best in the area based on reviews and reading. I also love your talks on water flossers, I've found they helped me immensely but most dentists I've seen so far have spoken poorly of them. I lied between appointments and said I flossed normally but actually used a water one... they hygenist said my regimen was great and vastly improved.
Is it true that there is a trend that a "spit bowl" is no longer used in newly established dental office. I find it to be a deal breaker that I can't rinse out the gunk right away because it is so uncomfortable and I could risk swallowing it accidentally. Thank you very much for your professional advice on this dear Teeth Talk Girl.
hi friend! yes - in modern offices - the spit bowl has been replaced by the saliva ejector (also known as the suction) due to infection control. suctioning out the "gunk" is much cleaner (reducing aerosol spatter) than spitting into a bowl. hope this helps!
Hi what mouthwash would you recommend after tooth extraction? Its not bleeding anymore for day 2 but just wanted to prevent infection. There’s still swelling in my jawline.
Thank you. I know this question have nothing to do with this video. But I was just wondering can I get zoom whiting after I got my varnish fluoride treatment? I am scared that if I got the zoom whiting it might affect my varnish fluoride treatment. Thank you
I need a new dentist..i have a missing molar and i have been asking for a new tooth..he never gets back to me saying he has to call my dental insurance and checking its covered which it is..and doing a mold..this has been going on for years and i am fed up and looking for a new dentist.!
I had parodentis and i showed to my doctor they said it need some cleaning and they were cleaning but they didn't told me cautions and and about it condition like no extra details idk what to do im searching a lot by myself..
I finally found a dentist I really like, however, he does not have same day crowns in his office. I need several crowns done and waiting 2 weeks with temps on doesn't sound like fun. What are your thoughts on this TTT?
@@TeethTalk ...I've Google searched on sterilising home dental instruments. CRIKEY! Without an autoclave it seems impossible to do correctly. I avoided the dentist for over 10+ years and I finally had to get a deep cleaning due to moderate gum disease. I'm so glad that I did because thankfully I got lucky on the first try and found an absolutely amazing dentist and hygienist that's walking distance from my apartment. They did everything right as you suggested in this video (which I've been watching so many since my deep cleaning), and they were even able to deep clean and do laser treatment on my whole mouth during that one appointment. My teeth and gums look completely healthy and white now, and I'm so proud to smile again. I'm actually very excited to go back in 3 months for my next appointment! And thanks so much for this video; you've earned another subscriber! Peace, love, teeth! ;)
My work failed almost all of this... yikes. The only thing we pass is the gloves and lab. We're overly clean but have ZERO time to spend with our patients. All cleanings are 15 minutes
Alannah K I know. I'm a corporate office, there is absolutely nothing we can say. It's about 20 minutes. But someone is schedule every 15 mins. Exams, XRays and cleaning switch in order to make the 20 minute cleaning possible. If a cleaning starts at 7:30am, the 7:45am patient gets their exam and XRays first so by the time they're ready for a cleaning to them their whole process has started at 7:45am anyway. Either way; it's wrong and stressful!
Bruh the only reason I'm watching this is because my insurance policy or whatever changed and I had to find a new dentist that was in the network... I loved my old dentist and today I went to an appointment with a new dentist that I thought would be good but it was the most unprofessional staff I've ever dealt with in my life. If it turns out I was able to go to my old dentist all along then imma be so happy but so upset at the same time. I don't care if I have to pay a little bit more to have my old dentist back and I've never appreciated them more since I have now experienced what a bad dentist is like. Usually I don't care too much about being super professional but when they're all up in my mouth? I kinda care. no... I really care.
15 min cleaning?? WTF? I go to dental hygiene school to get my teeth clean. It only costs me $50 Canadian, but it last 3 hours, and I have to go twice, so 6 hours total.
I'm a hygienist. That's normal. Schools are slooooow. That being said, I'm running far, far away from an office that does 15 minute cleanings for an adult. A half hour is pushing it too, unless assistants do everything except the cleaning. I like having time with patients. I can explain more and learn more about thier needs.
@@BB-mb7ov Are you really a hygienist ?? How do I know if you are being honest here ? I am asking coz I have lost faith in dentists. I have been scammed by 2 of them already !! Plus, they didn't tell me anything about my Gums or Bone. Am suffering so much now ! Don't know who to trust !!! 😭😭
@Dipayan Pyne hey, I just saw this. I am really a hygienist. We do hour long appts for adult cleanings. I'm sorry you're having such bad luck☹️. I hope you find a good office who likes explaining any issues so you understand the why behind what they recommend
Does it normal that the dental filling takes 1 hour? My recent dentist filled my one teeth for 1 hour and 30 minutes. And it's my first time to experience that.
Depends on the dentist, which tooth, and how deep the cavity is. If the dentist is new it will take longer. If it is a front tooth it takes longer to match for colour and shape. If the cavity is deep then more drilling is required as well as more steps needed like adding a liner, glass ionomer, etc.
It is definitely possible and normal. Every tooth and surface can have significantly different times needed to properly complete a filling, especially depending on how deep the decay is. Hope this helps.
Hey Folks one thing the dental girl forgot to tell you is a highly questionable dentist doesn't fill his own fillings he passes it off to the assistant who knows more the dentist who just drilled it? Does your dentist leave room then sit wait for assistant to fill it ?
in some states that is normal because expanded function dental assistants/dental therapists/dental hygienists perform those tasks in some areas!!! it just depends on the state!!!
Here is my video about the different types of options for DH school: teethtalkgirl.com/videos/become-dental-hygienist?rq=dental%20hygiene%20school Hope this helps!
Damn I think I might need to see a new dentist. My appointments only ever take about 12 minutes, I'm 20 years old and I recently had to get a gum graft done because one of my pockets was 13mm deep!! I had to see a periodontist and he said I have recession on other teeth as well, however my dentist has never said anything about my other teeth. It sucks cause he seems nice but he never tells me anything or explains the severity of things! I thought that my teeth were fine cause I haven't had a cavity in 6 years and my cleanings were always really quick so I assumed everything was fine, but yeah according to the periodontist it turns out I have pretty severe gum recession for someone of my age. :( and what sucks is he said that its just because I'm genetically unlucky and have really thin gums, large teeth, a small jaw and when I got braces they pushed my teeth to the front so they are like sitting right against my gums. Like you can see the white colour and shape of my roots through my gum. Sorry for the rant but this gum graft has been a wake up call that I might need to find a different dentist who will actually explain to me what is going on and give me ways I can prevent the recession getting worse.
Mate, you are NOT alone. Too many dentists are DISHONEST ! They have turned into Businessmen !! I have been fooled by 2 into getting Root Canals when I did NOT need them ! Also, they never spoke about my Gums or Bone ! I never knew that Crooked Teeth can cause Gum Recession and Bone Loss !!! Sad to see the world filled with monsters !!!

So happy you've found someone you trust! Thank you for watching and commenting!
I went to a new dentist today and finally learned what a dental hygienist was and got my plaque scraped for the first time ever as well as my first ever fluoride varnish
so happy to hear you found a positive office! thank you for watching! sending positive toothy vibes your way!
so sad most don't remove plaque anymore and only do a quick floss
You've sold me. Wish I could go there!
Where is this one
I had a dentist who left two cottons inside my two teeth while doing fillings, and I ended up developing cysts, infections, and lost both of my teeth. I immediately got dental implants to avoid my teeth from closing the gaps & bone loss. My parents filed a lawsuit against the dentist.
That's insane! I am so sorry 😭
1- do they have a dental hygienist
2- gum checks
3- how long does a typical cleaning appointment last?
4- how often do they take x-rays
5- infection control (ask for tour of sterilisation area)
Do they do procedures in office or get referrals?
Referrals are important.

Thank you
I was very happy with my dentist and after 12 years, he left that practice and went somewhere else for a couple of years.
Thanks so much for your channel. You are so much more competent than some dentists out there. I've had very bad experiences with a handful of them.
I love when my patients ask me about how we sterilize our instruments.
Same! I love when people care!

This was a bit all over the place but oh well! 🤣
Please tell me your still with your boyfriend or ? If nothing else maybe he isn’t your boyfriend but is still your dentist??
I wish I could find a good dentist and hygienist.😢
When in doubt there is no doubt. Move on to another dentist.
One thing I am looking for is if the dentist and workers don’t yell at you or scold you. I don’t need to be scolded. I need help getting my mouth healthy. That is one reason I haven’t been to the dentist. That and insurance. Lol! Now I have insurance. Praise God! :)
goodness yes! dental professionals should be wanting to help you - not scold you! sending you positive toothy vibes! you'll find a great office! :)
My old dentist didn’t take X-rays on me for 15 years.... I made the switch :)
So glad to hear you made the switch!
In the uk almost never do dentists have hygienists, as the dentist does all of the same tasks that a hygienists does plus does normal dental work.

You're the best. My last dentist distroyed my teeth and now my new must fix it. I'm angry because of that.
Shooot 🤬
How?

@@nativeangel in your position now same age. Lot of teeth issues. No pain(yet) gonna try to get it fixed before it escalates further. I'm just worried about finding a good dentist. Because I'm far from a pushover.
Thank you 😀😀😀
Yikes... every dentist that I’ve been to have failed the appointment time rule. At first I was suspicious, but when I switched dentists and it still turned out the same, I thought it was just me.
I went to my dentist today and tht was the quickest cleaning I ever had.
When I was on my dads insurance, Blue Cross Blue Shield I went to a dental office and they were very professional. They did my X-Rays and explained I had some build up and that my wisdom teeth needed to be removed (even tho I didn’t have any pain at all) that for
Me was questionable bc Wht wld be the reasoning if I’m not complaining?
But somethings that were odd
1) she did ask me when’s the last time I been to a dentist , but didn’t request any dental records or XRays
2) we went over the x rays together and she said she didn’t see any cavities she didn’t even see my chipped/cracked tooth on the X-ray (I thought tht was weird cuz my other dentist saw my cracked tooth on the x ray) but she reassured she’s gona check my teeth to be sure .
5) the cleaning itself took less thn 10 minutes
Idk who to trust who to believe bc the second one got me thinking I take real good care of my teeth when I know when I’m depressed I can go 1-3 days without ever brushing (just being honest) but let her tell it I must be amazing at brushing. I don’t normally floss either and I would think a dentist would be able to see that and make mention. Idk if the first dentist was honest or trying to upsell but I know this other dentist was too fast and that was weird....

@@briannamichelle5728 I thought so! Needless to say I'm looking for a new dentist.

3rd molars (wisdom teeth) are very hard to clean (for you at home and your hygienist too!) which is why dental professionals will sometimes recommend having them removed if it appears they are accumulating plaque and calculus.
1. Ask if they have a dental hygienist
2. Gum checks (periocharting)
3. Appointment length (needs to be more than 15 minutes)
4. How often do they take x-ray? (At least once every 3 years)

Now I am at a dental office who I feel like they care about patients not the money.

i had the best dentist i could ever imagine. he remembered things i told him during the first appointment, even though it wasn't tooth related conversation, let alone he was very professional. that really made me confident about him.
unfortunately, he left the clinic and moved to another city.
the one i was sent to instead of him couldn't even remember my name, neither the reasons for my appointments. she had all the data in my file, on the screen just in front of her eyes. she is the worst dentist i've ever been to.
definitely going to switch for another one the next session.
I always feel like it's a red flag if a medical professional doesn't take the time to read over a chart. They should have a general idea of what you came in for and what complaints you have. If they're so busy or distracted that they can't give the appointment their full focus, something is wrong.
Oh wow I’m looking at this after my apt. I knew that “deep cleaning” didn’t last long enough
i just got some braces done and these dentists didnt advise me or my dad on anything. didnt tell me anything about hygiene or advice or anything at all practically. just the typical 'eat soft foods and wash your teeth' like ok? i feel like they didnt share enough information and my dad didnt really know what to really ask. besides that they didnt explain to me how the braces were going to shift my teeth into the right direction and how to take care of them or anything of that sort, ive been on youtube browsing trying to find an explication myself. they also didnt do any cleaning before applying my braces. so what do i do?

Love my hygentist she always makes sure my goodie bag has a tube of sensitivity toothpaste.
Yes, as a hygienist myself, if you are always seeing a temp, that means something is going on with keeping a hygienist.

Is it normal for an ortho to recommend the extraction of two healthy teeth (both premolars in the upper mouth) in order to facilitate braces?
extraction before ortho is a common thing, because maybe your teeth need more space than currently available in your jaw while they are getting perfectly aligned throughout ur braces treatment - so some teeth at the back may have to be removed to make that space for others.

I lied between appointments and said I flossed normally but actually used a water one... they hygenist said my regimen was great and vastly improved.
so happy to hear this :) thank you for your kind words! and wishing you continued dental health!
I have a question.
Should my dental appointment still be longer than 15 minutes if I'm a teenager?
I am a teeneger too ,usually my appoitments last about 30 min..but depands on what u are going to do..
@@TeethTalk Thank you so very much for your kind reply. Very helpful indeed.
Omit dentists who are rude
I just realized I went to 3 different dentists and can't remember being periocharted once
😮
Love your vids 💞
Thank you so much for watching!
Can you do a video on allergies from dentist
Hi what mouthwash would you recommend after tooth extraction? Its not bleeding anymore for day 2 but just wanted to prevent infection. There’s still swelling in my jawline.
Can you review the new Waterpik Sonic Fusion toothbrush? Is it worth it at all?
Thank you. I know this question have nothing to do with this video. But I was just wondering can I get zoom whiting after I got my varnish fluoride treatment? I am scared that if I got the zoom whiting it might affect my varnish fluoride treatment. Thank you
Thank You. This is very much needed. Now I have to find affordable and who my insurance co. will cover for the small amount they do pay.
Looking for good dentists is really hard 😭😭😭
I need a new dentist..i have a missing molar and i have been asking for a new tooth..he never gets back to me saying he has to call my dental insurance and checking its covered which it is..and doing a mold..this has been going on for years and i am fed up and looking for a new dentist.!
I had parodentis and i showed to my doctor they said it need some cleaning and they were cleaning but they didn't told me cautions and and about it condition like no extra details idk what to do im searching a lot by myself..
Very interesting to see you in the dentist chair 😂
Hows the dentist chair
I finally found a dentist I really like, however, he does not have same day crowns in his office. I need several crowns done and waiting 2 weeks with temps on doesn't sound like fun. What are your thoughts on this TTT?
Teeth Talk Girl ... How does one sterilise one's own dental tools? The dental mirror especially. (UK)
We use an autoclave, which sterilizes all instruments (including the mirrors) using high pressure and heat. Hope this helps!
@@TeethTalk ... Thanks for your reply. However, I was referring to sterilising dental instruments at home. (UK)
@@TeethTalk ...I've Google searched on sterilising home dental instruments. CRIKEY! Without an autoclave it seems impossible to do correctly.
Without doubt, I will use my dental instruments strictly for my own use. I will pressure cooker sterlise the dental tools for 30 minutes.
I never knew so much goes into sterilising dental instruments. (UK)
Peace, love, teeth! ;)
Can you please share the address of your dentist ? It sounds like you found an honest dentist !
👍
My work failed almost all of this... yikes. The only thing we pass is the gloves and lab. We're overly clean but have ZERO time to spend with our patients. All cleanings are 15 minutes
15 minutes 😳😳💔💔 that's terrible!
How on earth is a cleaning 15mins? What doo you do?
All adults should be scheduled 45mins at the absolute bare minimum
Alannah K I know. I'm a corporate office, there is absolutely nothing we can say. It's about 20 minutes. But someone is schedule every 15 mins. Exams, XRays and cleaning switch in order to make the 20 minute cleaning possible. If a cleaning starts at 7:30am, the 7:45am patient gets their exam and XRays first so by the time they're ready for a cleaning to them their whole process has started at 7:45am anyway.
Either way; it's wrong and stressful!
@@sunshineasmr5821 I'm so sorry you have to go through that. Too stressful
Im sure they talked you into 4mm SRPs too..
What about a good oral surgeon for wisdom teeth surgery
Wish I could visit you once duhh 😭😭😭
I wish everybody would watch this!
Thank YOU so much for watching!!! :)
In India all of these at one place is impossible 😢
there is no suh thig as adental hygienist in my country
By the way, who cleans your teeth?
Usually my dental hygienist coworkers :)
Why would you care? She would only have somebody she thinks is excellent.
At my old dentist I didn’t get an x-ray till I was 16 that’s bad
I just had one take 3 hours for one tooth
How are the Dental offices chosen based on the “Find a dentist” option on your website?
Hey Folks one thing the dental girl forgot to tell you is a highly questionable dentist doesn't fill his own fillings he passes it off to the assistant who knows more the dentist who just drilled it? Does your dentist leave room then sit wait for assistant to fill it ?
in some states that is normal because expanded function dental assistants/dental therapists/dental hygienists perform those tasks in some areas!!! it just depends on the state!!!
Make a video on how to become a dental hygienist
Here is my video about the different types of options for DH school: teethtalkgirl.com/videos/become-dental-hygienist?rq=dental%20hygiene%20school
Hope this helps!
LMAO the Indian band gave me a double infection in my wisdom teeth. They said I had healthy teeth lllmaooo
