  • Today I received this beautiful piece from ‪@FelixBr.komponist_organist‬. Felix is moving house from the eastern part of Germany (close to Poland/Czech Republic) to the Western part (close to the Dutch Border). And of course, as a professional musician/organist you not only changes your “home” but also your professional environment. This is an emotional piece Felix wrote to commemorate his new journey! He asked me to perform it. A honourful question.
    The piece looks fairly simple, playable on piano or organ. But, this isn't about the notes, but about the space between the notes. Felix didn’t wrote anything on the score except for the style and tempo. So I felt free to make my own decisions. The piece has a AaB structure. I played A with strings with two hands on one manual where I replaced the lowest note from the left hand for a pedal note. I did the same with “a” but I shifted the left hand to another manual with another registration (Bourdon, Voix Humaine, tremulant). I played B just with strings and both hands on one manual without the pedal. However the pedal returns on the last few notes.
    Felix, I hope you like my interpretation. Good luck in Munster!
    For the best listening experience, I recommend using headphones, earbuds, or a hi-fi set. The sound dynamics of the pipe organ are truly remarkable and can be fully appreciated with high-quality audio equipment.
    Played with the 1924 Steinmeyer organ, Landau, St. Maria, Germany (Hauptwerk)

    You most wisely let the music 'breathe' which is always imperative. Great!

      Thanks a lot! It’s beautiful indeed. Simple and very effective. This one is kind of sad but I’m sure you will laugh because of my tomorrow’s piece. And maybe even aloud. Hahaha. At least the tune will stick in your ears the whole day. :-)

      @@RienSchalkwijk Actually I find it quite comforting -- it wraps me up in a warm blanket of some of my most beautiful and cherished memories. To me it is somewhat remniscent of Bach's "Komm, süßer Tod, komm selge Ruh", BWV 478. Very beautifully registered and played -- you gave the music room to breathe. I'm actually thinking I may want to try it 4x to 8x *SLOWER* to transform it into a piece along the lines of one of Chuck Wild's "Liquid Mind" pieces.
      I'm playing this continuously on loop now to help me settle in from a long day (it's 2:15 AM in eastern USA now) -- sleep will come soon ... I hope.

    It's a nice piece to close a bussy day ... When I saw the music sheet yesterday, I had no idea, how it will sound. You are right, it's the space between the notes. And it needs a lot of rest. Very beautiful rendition!

    Saying 'goodbye' - to what has been home and a professional work environment - is always a highly emotional experience, even when there is both anticipation and excitement for a fresh start in what will be a new home and a new work environment. Felix captures in a wonderfully sincere way the nostalgia we feel for such occasions and his composition is hauntingly beautiful - but rightly resolves in the major at the end. I'm sure he will be very pleased with your interpretation and performance on the glorious Steinmeyer Organ sample set, Rien, as empathetic understanding is one of your many virtues: bravo!

      @@RienSchalkwijk I'm quite short this week, didn't record anything yet, and no idea what I can play. I finished editing a new composition I'm very proud of, dedicated to Markus, but he won't play it until next week...so I wait. Are you curious of the score ?

    • @RienSchalkwijk
      @RienSchalkwijk  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Of course! From this sampleset (Landau) I used the Aeoline 8′, Vox coelestis 8′, Lieblichgedeckt 8′ from manual 3 coupled to the Zärtflute 8 and the Gemshorn 8 from manual 1 for A and B. In A and a I played the lowest note with the pedals where I used the Zartbaß 16′ coupled with manual 3.
      In “a or the reprise from A) I played a the upper note from the left hand (the other note I played with the pedals) with another manual (II) where I used a soft Bourdon 8’ and the Voix humaine with trem. By doing so (using pedals and two manuals I wanted the piece to get some more depth.
