I just discovered your channel. I wish I found it four months ago. This is exactly what I need, having relearn the language several times with many years in between, many years in between(!) this has become the perfect refresher. Showing context in English and not just straight speaking in Italian. Thank you thank you. I will continue watching.
Sto imparando l'italiano a scuola ma questo channel ha aiutato molto e mi ha salvato nella mia intervista oggi. Lo so che non parlo italiano bene ma ancora siete molto aiutanti. Grazie tante
Over 50 years ago I picked up Italian from my colleague and because I knew French, I was able to survive in Brescia within 3 weeks. But now 50 years later, I have forgotten most of my Italian. However with the help of this video and your teaching, I hope to be able to brush up my Italian in 2 months to survive in Roma, Florence, Sicily on an Italian Cruise ship. Thanks Desiree.
Im just started to learn italian on 2021. But i have to stop for a while because my online classes and load of homework. Ciao a tutti!!! Mi chiamo Zira. Vivo in Malaysia e mi piace parlare l'italiano.
I will never forget you and thanks for teaching me Italian. I notice even in a week, I am getting more comfortable with Italian words and begin to understand. Thanks.
I started watching videos on this channel just the other day and your English has gotten much better since you made this video. It's very motivational to see that you have progressed like that Desiree!

Listen! You live in a real world! Come back to it. You're studying to become a Jedi, she's a Senator. If you follow your thoughts through to conclusion, it will take you to place you cannot go, regardless of the way you feel about each other.
Thank you very much for your videos, they're very useful. I also have to admit that your English is really awesome. if I didn't listen with the attention I would have mistaken you for a native speaker.
Ik only 3%of this world are polyglot but I wanna be one of the them and at least I wanna learn 5 different languages and one of them is Italian and Grazie Millie!!
Analo Joyce first you should listen to Italian number songs up to ten and when you get the hang of it come here i did and i learnt the numbers to ten Amazing do it
Be focused on a small part of the language, as in any language learning. The process is the same in about every language (except ones that you have to learn writing systems for), but the substance is different.
I'm a B1 speaker right now. Like with any language, the beginning is REALLY tough and can seem demotivating at times. Many times you will be exicted to learn something only to find that you still can't communicate really at all. You don't really get past that until you get to upper A2, and even then it's frustrating. I still have problems, but thankfully I know enough of the basics of conversation that I can safely talk about most common things without much trouble, even though my grammar can be off sometimes. I could survive in Italy right now, which is an achievement I think. I'm gonna lay down some tips for you and for other people that want to lern Italian (it will probably help for other languages as well). 1. Before you do anything, memorize the vowels and how they sound. In Italian, every single vowel is pronounced, it's not like English where we have silent letters and all sorts of crazy stuff. For example, Grazie (means "thank you") is pronounced "Grah-zee-eh" not "Grah-zee". Both the i and the e are pronounced. Italian is for the most part very simple to pronounce. You absolutely need to get the 5 vowel sounds down pat. After that... 2. Ok, since you seem to be going into this without any italian knowledge at all, the first thing you need to do is to memorize basic greetings and to ask certain questions. YOu have to know how to say yes, no, hi, bye, please, thank you, you're welcome, good morning, good evening, good night, good, bad, what?, I don't understand, Do you speak English?, my name is, what's your name?", where are you from"? I am from". Even before you do any grammar, these are important. When starting a language completely dry, you have to commit to SOMETHING that you can learn very fast that can also be useful to you. Write these translations down 25 times each, and do it once a day. I promise you'll remember them. 3. Next, you'll want to learn the verbs "to be" and "to have". These are EXTREMELY important, because when you get to the past tense, these verbs are used in conjuction with other verbs to create a sentence. It's sort of like how we say "I had bought something at the store". Well, if you didn't know the verb "to have", you wouldn't be able to form this sentence. But Italian does this much more than we do. 90% of the time when talking about the past you will use "to be" and "to have" no matter what you're talking about. 4. It's a good ide to learn pronouns at this point. I, you, him, her, you guys, they. In Italian it's the verb endings that show who is doing the action, for example Credo=I believe, Credi=You believe. Because of this, Italians don't normally say I, you, him, her, etc...as much as we do (we use them every sentence pretty much) because it's redundant. However there are still many cases where they do use them, especially when you get a little more advanced, so they're definitely good to know. 5. Next I would hop on Duolingo, it's an app that teaches you languages. They have Italian and it's a great course, something fun todo while you're on the toilet or at the doctor's office. Retainng all of it is not easy, because they do throw a lot at you in a small amount of time, but what I used to do was start the course over when it would start toget more difficult, just to drill the earlier stuff into my brain more. Also, this is the time to start using youtube. This channel is great, and Italy Made Easy is also great. At this point the learning is up to you. I have a few ways that you can also supplement your learning with. - Definitely jump on a website to talk to natives online. They're amazing, trust me. i wouldn't be at B1 level without it. but before you do this you need to learn the basics like I said, because some of these people cannot speak English AT ALL. I tried doing it with German, which I knew nothing of, and it was a mess. We couldn't communicate. No matter what, if you plan on learning a language, this is a MUST. Try setting up a Skype call on voice chat, it's scary because you'll feel stupid when you realize you can't speak Italian hahaha but it's so rewarding when you keep doing it. - Do you play videogames? Play Magic The Gathering? Buy it on PS3 and change the language to Italian. Very fun. You can do this with other games too, but a card game like Magic actually requires you to read a lot. I tried doing this with an RPG like FFXII, but it didn't really help me at all, it was too easy and you're not really reading that much. - Netflix has great movies in Italian as well. - Consider buying a book of beginner short stories on Amazon. I have two of them and they're tough, but they're great. - If you can, take a college course. It's helped me a lot, especially with exactly what I have to study in what order (especially the tenses, Italian has a lot of them), plus you are tested on the material, so there's more pressure to stick with it and improve. I hope this helps everyone who needs it. In bocca al lupo!
I think the best way to lean Italian is to use an Italian car or some classic architecture as your prop, with your coat draped casually over your shoulders and your hands in your pockets, and maybe wear a fedora and some cool shades.
