    Edit: lol, and 3 days later, it opens:
    wset.com/news/nation-world/section-of-blue-ridge-parkway-in-asheville-reopens-on-nov-6?fbclid=IwY2xjawGZlyZleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHXEE80LQeCisFv1dgclXBiCRxAq3uLnOtiK-kFM_1nahuKD-QY-7yDairQ_aem_1JRmmnzzhoMcOIQoWEl2Ew
    I went to check on the progress of the Blue Ridge Parkway since it has been closed since September 27th. I spent my childhood riding up there to get to campsites. I can also walk to it from my house but wanted to see more of it. Turns out this was a quick way to get a citation 😂 - Took all of about 30 minutes. Call it one of my contributions to the government for clean up. The officer was nice and I got a ticket so you don't need to! I only passed one moving vehicle on the Parkway, as you can see in the video, and it was law enforcement, no workers. Thank you Parkway workers as I'm sure it was a MESS up there and it looks really good now.
    As he said, the Parkway should be opening in sections this week.
    Enjoy this semi useless video. Cue the comments....

    Hey Mark, just wanted to say I am very impressed with you. The way you conduct yourself is exemplary. Your videos of this have been the best to show all of us what is going on in your area. Yes you went past a barricade, yes you got a ticket but the way you accepted the responsibility was very respectable. I was in law enforcement for 31 years and if I would have written you that ticket I would have felt bad because I would have known I wrote a ticket to a very nice person. You represent very respectfully Pilots, prior military, motorcycle riders and now your an amazing journalist.

    Mark, I've watched all your Helene-related videos and while I enjoy them and appreciate your work making them, when NPS says the BRP is closed, they mean CLOSED. 😄 Curiosity may have killed the cat, but trying to get satisfaction got you a big-ass fine. Warning to everyone who doesn't know, a ticket for ANYTHING on the BRP is a Federal matter and if it is bad enough, you have a mandatory appearance in Federal court and it ain't cheap. Even off the Park property, these Rangers have full authority and they will use it. However, like the Ranger you saw here, they are always very professional, courteous and friendly. The Rangers who wrote me up both times I got stopped for speeding (motorcycle) many years ago smiled the whole time they were writing the tickets, and one of the speeding fines was not for speeding on the BRP, but a road leading up to it that was out of the park. It was a bad enough fine I had to appear, couldn't just pay it off. (I passed the Ranger driving his personal vehicle on a double yellow line in a tight curve and going about twice the speed limit. He nailed me as I was stopped at a BRP restaurant (Peaks of Otter)
    At any rate, Mark thanks for the view of progress. Looks like they have been putting in a lot of OT trying to get it open again. There are a few sections already open; a 20-mile stretch just north of Grandfather Mountain has been open for a couple of weeks now and there are a couple of others further north, I think.
    Do you think it might have helped if you'd asked the Ranger if he knew who you were (YT videographer)? I don't think so either.

      Mark, thanks for sgaring this with us! From what I saw in this video, it didn't look like it was necessary for the road to be closed. I originally read twice. The road was closed permanently, so i'm surprised to gear it will even be opening again. Sounds like you don't believe there's anything nefarious going on there, which is good. I was concerned they might be getting set up to do some mining up in there...

    • @MarkHuneycutt

      @jewels2149 anything you hear about mining is silly until proven otherwise

    • @TheSwissChalet
      @TheSwissChalet 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MarkHuneycutt why "silly"? People can't ask a logical question and inquire about something perfectly plausible (about possible mining)...how is that "silly"?

    • @debbieb1482
      @debbieb1482 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@TheSwissChalet It's not really a logical question. Mining on the parkway? While they are trying really hard to clean and repair the road so it can be opened to the public? You've got to know better. You know what the area has suffered. Rumors are silly. I knew a kid who went up there on the parkway where it was closed, got stuck in a snowstorm & got lost. He died of hypothermia before they could find him. There's a reason always when they close the parkway.
