It’s not the country of manufacture that bothers me, I have a few Far East guitars, myself. It’s the need to have the Gibson name on the headstock. Call it what it is, after all, you Chibson owners say you can have them spec’d anyway you want, put TedPedraza on it, I’d have Chibson on mine, anything but Gibson, because it’s anything but a Gibson.
@@BootleggerPhil and I do have one with my name lol. I had a music store owner tell me that I would never be able to afford a Gibson 59 Les Paul starting at $10.000, that was it. I was done with Gibson or any guitar that’s worth a house. Even if I had the money I still wouldn’t buy one I would buy a shit load of Chibson with Chibson on it.
@@tedpedraza8234 That’s good for you Ted. I got no problem with my little Epiphone, plus a really hated 2015 Special, neither costing that much, about as much as a tricked out Chibson infant. Both great guitars & no defrauding involved. Don’t know where you’d get a 1959 Gibson Les Paul for $10k, unless you time travel back to the 20th century, or a house for that matter… But think of how many times you could have TedPedrazza put on a Chibson if you’d of had the good sense to invest $10k into what a 1959 goes for. Personally, I’m cool with the small tally of Gibson Custom & Fender Custom Shop guitars I’ve managed to work & pay for over the years, and buy a house, raise a family, put back into an honest economy whilst working in the music industry. So I’ll chose to play those hard earned and we’ll deserved guitars, with the three additional Far East guitars I could afford back in the early days of my life, all of them with their own names on the headstock (I don’t think I’m that hot, I have to have my name on a guitar for votes or laughs). You see Ted, it’s cool to party, but if you keep it down to a night or so now & then of juice & toot, you wont be frightened off by guitars that are worth having for life, because you’ll have something left of your money & good sense. Bought the exact same one you got in the video amazing guitar for the money. Apart from the usual finish blemishes and a slight crack in the finish everything else was perfect frets,hardware etc all that was needed was a minor set-up and it plays great. All those haters I don't understand why they complain.

Enjoy it man,, I got a real gibson custom, shes now 24 years old and but has mostly stayed in the case because I was always afraid of breaking the headstock etc.. Second chibber i got last week from ebay honestly plays 99% as good, needs tuners and pickups but it still sounds good and stays in tune.. ( just dont like the inconsistent turns on the tuners).. It looks tits too, burst finish i always wanted! And at $300 ill treat her like a strat :)

Chibson has gotten so good in the last couple of years that they should use their moniker Chibson on their products. I was so impressed in the professionalism of their recent builds, that I had my favourite builder, create a replica of a 2007 Les Paul Supreme. I own no less than 6 Chibsons, and all are comparable to north american guitar builders. The exceptions are the nut, and electronics, that use cheaper products. But remember the price difference from a real Gibson.

How about just letting the actual shops use their own names? That would eliminate the mystery and lead to the good makers being recognized and patronized…until some of the Chinese builders started pirating each other’s real names I guess…lol..I would actually prefer no name on the headstock at all

Another score!!! I agree on the Nitro finish... I just painted my StewMac LP using Colortone nitro (I have a TH-cam short I added yesterday showing the results) and I love it. It produces a beautiful almost milky smooth clearcoat. You really scored on this one... so nice, congratulations!

I got a Chibson LP custom black a little while ago. Nice paint, frets, binding, large pots, big neck. Cost $230 a really nice guitar for the money. Only minor thing crooked tuners on head stock.

I got a blue burst custom for my daughters first guitar, but I was surprised by it. With some work like some fret polishing and a new nut and some plastics swap it would be hard for most Gibson fans to know the difference. The pickups aren’t great but definitely good enough. I see these as a great way to tinker into something pretty cool and not spend a lot. Now I’m looking at a black custom chibson with p90s. Because I need to put an alnico staple neck pickup into the right guitar 😊 I have every other real les paul pickup combination p90s, humbuckers, three humbuckers. But I’m not about to spend 6k on a 54 reissue black beauty!

DUDE!! Great vid...I have recently got a chibby black "Les Paul Custom" almost identical to the one you showed here! I was blown away with it in terms of look, weight and feel!! I replaced tuners, pickups/wiring and strings....but honestly it now sounds really bad ass (and it sounded good before). First let me say I love your intro, Cold Gin, that band has inspired more people to pick up a guitar than any other, but that's another story. I've been wanting a Gibson Les Paul Custom in alpine white forever, at least over 30 years. But every time I get serious I walk away. I just can't justify the price, now by the time you add tax they're over 6 K! Certainly not in my budget. So I bought a Chibson LP custom in alpine white. It played great right out of the box! I liked it so much I bought another in Cherry Sunburst, and then another in black just like the one you have in this video. All three came from my home state of NJ so it arrived in one day transit time from Fedex. The fit and finish on all 3 is just fabulous! The neck relief and string height was well within specs. Yeah the pick ups and tuners are not the greatest, but for me, my stage days are over, and playing in my music room they are just fine the way they are. At high gain you get some ring from the pick ups but I'm also too close to my amp as well so that may be part of the problem. I never purchased from Ali Express but you got me thinking. I purchased all mine on ebay, so far no disappointments. But like you said, email the seller before you buy. If they don't respond before the sale then forget about any response after they got your money. These Chibsons can get addicting! I've also purchased 2 SG's and a Flying V all in Cream White. I love that color! Only one SG was unplayable out of the box. Truss rod was way too tight. In about an hour I had it set up and playing great.
Anyway, I love your honest videos on these guitars and please keep them coming. I plan to watch them all.
So, do I still want a Gibson Les Paul Custom in Alpine White? ABSOLUTELY!! Maybe someday. But , for now I'm happy buying all my dream Gibsons at an affordable price. Let the sickness continue....

I got one last month (WILL COME UP ON MY CHANNEL LATER) with the same markings on the pickguard. It's a tiger maple top in a dark honey color. The fret ends are enclosed in the binding like that one. My first like that. Made it tricky, as it still needed frets leveled. Pups were ok, but I had planned to mod it before it arrived. 5 weeks. Took it 2 weeks to get out of China, which is what I normally see. That's a beauty. I avoid black as best I can cuz of the finger and arm marks. Constant battle to keep clean like black cars.

It's tempting to grab a entire line of replica gibsons at this level of build. Can easily swap out a few parts if and when wanted to to really dial em in. These are so not limited to wall art.
The only thing that most of the manufacturers didn't understood yet is the distance from the logo to the D and G string tuner poles. There is a huge gap. If you look into the real thing, this is not the way. In fact all the 6 tuners should be at least 1cm higher.
They actually do it on purpose. So they do not meet the term "Exact" that is required to be considered a counterfeit. This is why if you really look everything is just a bit off. Taken as a whole its like 80% different. You can find one that's close in one area, but of in another's. Its not because they don't know, Its because they need to change it import them. This one is pushing farther than most, however next to a authentic Gibson the many many differences are obvious. Thanks for watching brother.
I think that they just use the same headstock model for classic and custom models, since the normal gibsons like Slash or a 60/59 etc, they have bigger headstocks with that exact proportions, but the custom has the gibson logo starting closer to the D tuner and the whole headstock is a bit smaller. These variants also are common even in the original production, I think that in 1955 the logo was completely off centered, it started lower like the customs ones but with the headstock of a classic gibson so you basically had a lot of blank space at the top.
@@k2rocksstl that problem is caused by the string coming with an angle from the nut to the tuners, they're not aligned like other headstocks such as PRS ones.
Also the tuners are not staggered in height and the curve of the Gibson's headstocks is 17° if I remember correctly and it weakens not only the structure (in fact they brake quite easily on the scarf joint) but also improve tuning instability
gibson logo they slight different over those years , im not gibson guy , but i agreed the gibson logo always looks little odd , looks very hard to get right .

Looks like a bunch of epiphone workers walked out. And went to the factory down the road. Most everyone i know says the last year all their chibsons are quite a bit bettèr than their 6 7 or 800 dollar epiphone's. Great guitar. Its a beauty. 😮

Got a chibson les Paul 3 pickup guitar after some bridge adjustments it plays fine I like it.
Actually one one of my two Chibsons I swapped out the mini pots for CTS etc I ended up putting the old mini pots nack in as it had a better taper compared to the CTS that was more like a switch. I used A and B pots in all the configurations but no the cheapo minis work perfect !

I had an '86 Custom brown burst waiting for me under the Christmas tree one year when I was a teenager, it was the best guitar I ever had I believe. The music store owner said to me and my Dad before he bought it, "Why do you want a Preacher's guitar?" still remember that and laugh sometimes :) It still had the PAF stickers on the mounting rings and only had minor buckle rash. These Chibby's look cool but I'd feel like I was a bit of a traitor for buying one in a way. Great review and nice looking axe.

Fabulous,that's what I want to see, I've been wanting for one of these for a long time,maybe 6 months since I got my first chibby, and I kick myself for not getting this one first, but you know how you don't want to spend a lot,when testing the waters for the first time,I didn't expect to even get the cherry burst standard LP that I did get,but it's no where near as nice as this black beauty of yours,I'm going to check with the seller I went with the first time, see if he can get me one, heck mine was $220 so you really got a good deal on that one,can't wait to hear it,couldn't ask for a better review,just at the right time,I was really to order one anyway,now I know I want one,I'm thinking of rigging a brass nut up for under the truss rod cover, ,just fake enough to slide in the hex and stay there,use a little piece of a bolt for the brass nut to screw onto and maybe file the back of it hex shape to slide into the existing hex nut on truss,going to be fun, faking some friends out right, as always thanks for the video, nice to find like minded affectionados,of budget guitars,especially chibsons.

The only thing that worries me with these, is you don't know how the wood was stored and prepped for moisture before starting the build. I would be interested to see how well they all intonate too. They have come a long way though, I'll give em that!

This video convinced me to try to buy one - again. The first one didn't make it through customs., and ended up getting my money back. But I did my research, and even paid for extra fast shipping - 3 weeks - as I was told that increases the chance of making it through customs. I ordered one just like you are showing in this video, but with chrome hardware. If it's as beautiful as the one you got, I will let you know.

Hey thats cool i got a chipson and the bridges most of them and harley bentons im having to move the bridges forward so you can set the intonations right. We’ve had to do two of them so far. In dealing with that with one right now. That the saddles are almost against the side of the bridge. And thats after putting a bone nut and leveling the frets. Its still to that point now.
Luckily, I've had no intonation issues with any of the newer ones.

Back in 1981/82? My father bought a black Kent LP copy off his friend who was a studio musician, for me for xmas (I cant remember the exact year but it was before 1985.
Other than the huge binding and gold plated hardware, this guitar looks almost identical to my Kent.
I loved that guitar.. it meant the world to me.
Sadly it was stolen from the back of a friend's pickup truck after a show one night as we were packing up.
I've never been able to find another or anything close to it. 😞
I bought a used 57 (73 reissue) when I was a kid and later resold it. 40 years later I bought my son an Epiphone copy (Gibson guts). I hate to say the Epiphone was a better guitar.
I’m still kinda on the fence about using the Gibson logo. But instead of dropping several thousand on a authentic anything only to find out you don’t like it, maybe buy one of these.
I did that with the Acoustasonic clone by IYV just to see if I liked it. Turns out I did and picked up a Fender Acoustasonic mim used at a good price.
I might try one of these in the near future but doubt I’d buy a Gibson LP just because of the insane price. I did play my friend black beauty, but wasn’t overly impressed to save up and buy one, but to drop $300 on a good clone, yeah I could see that.
Most of these come with a 14 degree angle on the headstock. I did purchase one from a seller and requested a 17 degree angle. But honestly it's hit or miss with these things.

I can't live without my custom Chibson and out of all my guitars it stays in tune the best no matter how long I let it sit in the case it's always in tune 😂 the only bad thing about mine is I break my back lifting them up mine are almost 12lbs they do kill the back big-time... I picked up an ES-335 and 'sadly' the fit and finish is better than the Gibson's hanging at the authorized dealer. Now I have it and it actually plays well and sounds pretty good. The only downfall is that I can never sell it. If doing this again, I'll request the Gibson label to not be added. I agree with your assessment: some of these are pretty good! Note: when I had my Chibson set up the tech did an amazing job but claimed the intonation is not perfect because of the length from the nut to the bridge. I haven't noticed any issues with the intonation - it sounds perfect all the way up the neck.
Any chance you can provide buyer details? I bought a Chibson off Ali and my luthier has only had to make minor changes - new humbuckers, toggle, and pick guard - 0 intonation. Am very happy with it for the price all up. Thanks for this video.

Very well produced video. I always wondered, if these guitars were labeled Epiphone instead of Gibson, would they be more legitimate to buyers. I bought a Epiphone Classic Custom Pro from Amazon that seems like it may have been an indirect purchase from Ali.

Don't know much about Chibsons, but I've read a few places that if you get one with nibs on the frets, you have a good one. It's a lot more work to build the guitar like that, so it's likely more work went into the build and you have a higher quality instrument. Who knows?
I have no clue where your guitar or mine was made, (perhaps China or Indonesia) but I have a Harley Benton SC-500 BK Vintage that is very similar to your Chibson. For a sub $200.00 guitar the HB is absolutely unbelievable. The fretwork, finish, playability and sound is not far off from my almost 2K Fender American Pro II Strat. I have no complaints for the price I paid for the HB. It's just a shame Chibsons use the Gibson name when the guitar could easily be sold under a unique independent brand.
That Ace Frahley guitar just seems like Chibson meets or exceeds Gibson some times.
A new trussrod cover plate and 4 black screws instead of the golden ones for each pickup plastic rings and it will look like the real deal!
Wait until you see this guitar in an upcoming episode. You will be amazed.

Did you change the pickups? I've heard some reviews saying they are complete garbage and some of them are showing up with Epiphone pickups and some other parts as well
I actually have kept them stock. One of the few guitars that I have kept stock pups in. They sound great.

There's a lot of snobbery over Chinese products and premium branding,When I had a Guitar shop in the UK I sold brands like AXL and Johnson(Same company).Also they made guitar bodies that were shipped to the US for final assembly.True some of the hardware was questionable but you get what you pay for.some even had Seymour duncan pickups! the all played exceptionally well.
I've also got a Chinese motorbike,made in 2002 a clone of a Honda, had it for three years and it's been totally reliable,the finish is about as good as my 1963 Triumph speed twin.Not Guitar related except through Rock& Roll.

I've bought a couple off Aliexpress and the only problem I ever had was on one the frets were just a hair out of place. So I never could get. A 100% correct internation.

I find that your SEARCH words are very important.. how do you conduct a SEARCH for what you are looking for and how much detail do you look for in your search .. or is it a matter of modifying your search and browsing with detail overt the pics and listing? you obviously need to know what you are looking for and looking at.. it does take some skill.
It does. My thing is making sure I have a responsive seller who communicates well. Ebay is an excellent source for this. Stay away from scores below 95% and read the reviews. Contact the seller first and see if they respond in a timely fashion. Also, I make sure they have a make offer button. Tell them if they accept your offer and quality is good, you will be back for more. They love repeat business. Ask any questions you like. They usually have no problem telling you exactly what it is. Sometimes, you need to navigate around broken English and translation. With Ali Express , I make sure ratings are 94 and up. Make sure some reviews are USA based. And make sure they respond fast. If they don't move on. Stay away from JUGGS guitars. Very shady. They use pics of actual name brand guitars. If you are having one ,custom built, insist on picture updates of the build, and make your own serial number up for the back of the headstock. That way, you know it's your actual guitar being built. You can even have them do a custom unique logo. Pretty much anything you want can be done. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching 🙂

The first thing i noticed was the truss rod cover butts up against the nut like an Epiphone, its a two screw piece like Gibson but Gibson truss rod covers aren't flat on the nut end like this one, even the new Inspired by Gibson Epiphones with the the open book headstock have the flat bottom truss rod cover but with 3 screws, nobody seems to notice that small detail. Gibson headstocks are way more trouble to produce because theyre all re faced(with inlays) and that allows the ability to move the truss rod access hole up and away from the nut so you can use the 2 screw Gibson truss rod cover ive come to love. Why the Chibson makers would go to all the trouble to craft such an impressive guitar and leave out this one detail is beyond me. If youre gonna do it, go all the way! But for $250 its fukn awesome, just not a carbon copy

How did you get it past US customs without it being impounded for the Gibson logo? That happened to a UK guitarist you tuber who sent for a couple. Border Force caught it and sent him a letter saying he had to agree to have it destroyed or they would contact Gibson and legal action may follow. Thoughts?

I have heard of them coming with fret nibs but this is the first one I have seen, I can see them starting to punch the serial number on the back of the headstock instead of CNC cut serial numbers.
I wouldn't mind one with a genuine Evertune fitted at manufacture, I would probably have to ship them the part though and getting a well routed and fitted one would be a coin toss.
What do you think the purpose of the fake shipping number was?
I have no clue. But with them disappearing from AliExpress and giving me a fake tracking number. It was a bit scary. lol
Happened to me before. I think they want you to believe they shipped immidiately so they can manufacture the guitar and send it out without you canceling the order.
I'm dealing with Aliexpress sellers for almost 5 years now and this has happened multiple times to me. It also happened once, when I already bought the guitar but was still in talks with the seller how I wanted it costumized.
