The Chase Amazon Prime card is great. I have had it for many years. Sometimes Chase sends out emails with special bonus offers. I think it was fourth quarter of 2022 that I was getting 10% on gas with the Prime card. That might be the only time I actually kept the card in my wallet.
just applied for this card after watching your video and got approved! i use amazon all the time, so i figured it'd be great to use this card exclusively for prime purchases + when i'm traveling. thanks for such a thorough review! hope your mom is liking it :)
Great tips here for the Amazon Prime card Spencer! I learned the household Prime feature from a previous video you did on the card and it's cool that you can cash out the Amazon points! Never knew that either. I've been using my BofA CCR for my Amazon spend, but will definitely keep this in mind if I ever get this card!
I appreciate you Stan! The household system is one of those hacks that I'm proud I found out haha. I considered getting my own prime at some point so I could get the cards, but once I found that out, I was stoked. I'm glad you were able to learn something though... that's a real accomplishment for me! Teaching Stan the man something about cards is an honor 🤣
I was listening to this video while cleaning my car and then heard my name! Thanks for the shoutout! Great video and I didn’t know that with the family account you can bypass the AF on the prime card. That’s good to know.
There is one thing you miss on the Chase Amazon card. Even if you don't have prime anymore, you don't need to downgrade to amazon store card. Your amazon prime card will auto "change" to "amazon visa card" ( note this is NOT an Amazon store card). It's an VISA card so you can use anywhere and it's also an "Amazon" card so you still get your discount/cash back from Amazon purchases ( I believe it's only 3% instead of 5% like prime card) Btw there is also an Amazon store only card from Synchrony bank and Amazon scecure card ( also from Synchrony bank).
Thank you for the note!! That's the exact card I'm referring to if I ever say the Amazon store card. They have so many different ones that I can get them mixed up, but the no annual fee amazon card is a good card for them to change you to if you cancelled Prime.
I personally pay for Amazon Prime right now, so the Prime Card could definitely make sense for all those misc expenses I have for this channel. Only problem is it would take up a 5/24 slot, but it's still such a simple & straightforward way to get 5% back on all those purchases, the there is definitely a lot of potential value. Great video as always Spencer!
I'd say go for the business version instead! It'll take up an Amex 5 credit card limit slot, but you can get it without impacting 5/24 or adding an inquiry to your report since you have other Amex cards already.
👏👏👏👏 great vid as always spencer! i love the gorgeous new blue design of the prime visa too - for some reason it converted back to grey in my digital wallet LOL. where i live, amazon shipping even w prime takes 7-8 days, but walmart+ has been oddly gamechanging with most things shipping overnight for free - so in that case i'd probably PC to the no AF Amazon Visa from chase (the silver one) to keep the account open.
Thank you so much Brenley!! The new design is definitely solid, but I'm partial to the Whole Foods design for some reason. And you must live in Hawaii or something with that long of shipping times! I know Chase Yokoyama told me it takes forever to get packages out there. But it sounds like you've found a solid strategy w/ walmart + and a PC to the no AF Amazon Visa is likely a good move. Thanks for watching!
I love this card. I have had this card for almost 15 years & before they had a Prime version. I like the blue design. I also have Amazon's 2 other cards. I shop on Amazon about 15 to 20 times a year which is why I have all 3 of their cards so if I can have a verify when I do purchases.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial yeah man I’m happy chase treats me very well. But the limit they gave for a store card was a little unnecessary lol. Oh I was gonna tell you that I spent a couple hours working on a 5 year road map for my credit journey. My main goal is to have a trifecta with chase, Amex, Citi, and Wells Fargo. Also in addition developing a relationship with US bank and BOA.
Wow that's awesome man!! I haven't ever built one out that far, but that would be a fun exercise for sure. I'm excited to see that come to fruition for you! @@jeffreyplatt7703
I agree that this card for general use with Amazon is nice. I do know that the interest language is a predatory and I've heard about chase doing some shady practices with this card specifically. Make a purchase of 5k say on furniture or electronics. You pay 4k off leaving a 1k balance. They charge you interest on the full amount of the purchase of 5k, not the remaining balance of 1k. So for this card more than others, pay in full everytime. I have been on the fence with this card and the amex. Business for some time now. The Amex would put me at 4 CC, and I have a plan to start the hilton Carousel this year, so I need two slots. I just got down to 5/24 and will be a 4/24 in April. Not sure I want to take a slot when I can get 3% with the BBE and generally half the year I can get 5% with a rotating category.
What you described is literally every credit card and bank ever. If you don’t pay off your due balance, you did not fulfill your payment obligation and will be charged interest on the full purchase. And you will also lose your grace period for the next billing cycle. Better look that one up. Again this nothing new or special. But this is the tricky part about credit cards that lots of people overlook. 👍👍👍
Ahh yeah I think you've brought that up before and that's definitely an annoying way that they calculate interest on this card. Good note here! For your specific situation, that's a bit of a predicament. It honestly sounds like the personal version would be better for you between the two so you can leave those Amex credit card slots open. But then again, getting 3% on your BCE isn't bad at all so maybe you don't need the personal. I would wait till you're under 5/24 and add a different Chase card before getting this one to push you higher, especially since a ton of people get approved over 5/24.
Great video as usual Spencer. One thing I want to note is the Amazon Store card is issued by Synchrony bank so I don’t believe you can convert your card since Chase issues the visa version of this card. Chase does offer a version that earns 3% cash back at Amazon that doesn’t require a prime membership. I think if you cancel your Prime membership I think Chase will convert the card to the standard Amazon visa and vice versa. Also the Chase Amazon card offers 0% financing for certain purchases as well. Keep up the great work!!
You're 100% right! I just updated my pinned comment since I misspoke there. Anytime I say "Amazon store card" I'm referring to the no annual fee Amazon card, not the Synchrony card. Also, check out woodzy's comment about the financing options on this card. They're kinda sneaky with this one, so it's important to stay on top of it!
I hate that the Financing Plan for not a Financing Plan at all Instagram you still pay full price for Items but you do this 6 Month Deal just to build Credit
Great video Spencer! ❤ Where is the amazon visa referral link in my amazon account? What do i click on to find my referral link for the amazon visa card? Do you have to have the amazon visa card in order to get the $50 per referral?❤
If i sign up for a 30 day free trial of prime and apply for this card and later on i decide to cancel prime subscription can i still keep this card? and if so will future amazon purchases go down to 3% off instead of 5%? and wiil there be a yearly fee afterwards?
hi, if you both have the Chase Ink Preferred, Ink Unlimited and Ink Cash... will Chase allow you to downgrade the Ink preferred to the Ink Cash? that would mean I would have 2 Ink Cash
Hey! Yes, you should be able to downgrade the Ink Preferred to a second Ink Cash, similarly to how you can hold multiple of the same freedom cards on the personal side. You can call to confirm, but that shouldn't be a problem.
I applied and was instantly approved for this card on the 26th of November and have still not received the actual card has anyone else had it take this long to receive the card?
I would definitely call in about that. We received the card within a few days, and it definitely shouldn't take over a month. I assume it got lost in the mail :/
Since I don't bank with Chase is there a limit of how many payments I can make per month with 3rd Party Debit cards? I like to pay my balances off ASAP.
Can you tell your mom congrats for me? 😂 Interesting! Great point about household sharing + the comment about losing that % of value from redeeming via Chase vs Amazon at checkout. Whole Foods version FOR SURE! TEAM WHOLE FOODS! … oh no, not again 😬 Great video Spencer!
Is that something new where they’re making you redeem in $25.00 increments? I’ve had the card for years and I always redeem for a statement credit once a year for the full amount of cash back in my account when the payment for my Prime membership is due.
I just recently updated my pinned comment since someone let me know that the increment only applies to redeeming for gift cards, not statement credits. You should be good still!
I'm not as familiar with the Store card from Synchrony and if I mentioned that name in this video then I was referencing the no-annual-fee Amazon Visa instead. 5% on all your purchases is great, but if you don't have any other product to change the other card to then it may be a bit redundant to have both. If you can manage em easily then that's fine though!
About the hack for household feature. If my sibling adds me on there and I get the Amazon card now. Let’s say next year they cancel their Amazon membership. Will I be SOL or would I be able to sign up for prime myself and not lose anything?
Nothing to worry about. You get the 5% cash back when you add the card as the preferred payment method to your Amazon account while it has an active prime subscription. This might initially take a day out to after you get the card. You will start with 3% cash back on Amazon. If your siblings cancels their prime subscription you will go from 5% to 3%. Once you subscribe to prime yourself the card will go back up to 5% cash back. Remember it had to be set as the preferred payment method. The card does not depend on prime. It is a standalone product. 👍👍👍
That is a really good question and one that I don't fully know the answer to, but here's my assumption. Since they add your amazon account as a household member, if you don't start paying for amazon yourself then I image they would eventually just downgrade it to the store card. Theoretically you'd wanna get ahead of it and call in before they take you off as a household member, but that's my best guess as to what would happen. Edit: Refer to the comment above. That's basically what I assumed would happen, but it sounds like your account will stay intact no matter what!
