This song really is a perfect appetizer for the Pixies, it's got all the elements that other songs might not have -- the weird lyrics, the loud-quiet-loud, the Kim Deal backing vocals, the Black Francis scream. Other songs might do some of those things, but this one does them all (except the Spanish). Great place to start!
Pixies are a great band, one of my favorites. And if you love bass, you’re gonna love them. They’re from Boston, fyi. I’ll give you a few songs to check out next, Debasser, Hey, Here comes your man, Gouge away, and break my body.
David Bowie compared their influential impact on music to that of the Velvet Underground =the few people who bought their albums back in the late 1980s went on to start their own bands. So many 1990s and early 2000s artists were influenced by them. Try their "Gouge Away" (their lead singer Charles/Frank/Francis's own favorite of their tracks). They are still around recording and touring.
My favourite is U-Mass. But Gouge Away, Where is My Mind, Debaser, and Letter to Memphis are also worth checking out. They are from Boston but got discovered and signed by a UK label whilst touring over here
Had to double check when you said they were a UK band, turns out they're American but we can't hold that against them. "Where is My Mind" is another great Pixies track 👍
Only bought a Pixies t-shirt today! Come home, and here's Stevie boy listening to them! 😜 Lots of genres are great... You will gradually segway into more of them.. Modern prog is also a big favourite of mine.. Plenty suggestions there too.. ''Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere But Not Here'' would be a good start if you wish to go there, and I really hope you do! 😁 Irish Roadie Colm! 🤘😎🤘
@@coheed1000 no way. What are the odds! I must have been channeling you this morning when deciding what to react to! I'll add that other request to the street length list I have now!
Your dad must be real cool. Yes! The Pixies are awesome! I got to see them with their original bassist, Kim Deal. They were intense. Check out Cannonball by Kim's other group, The Breeders. You will not be dissapoined. As for The Pixies, this whole album, Doolittle, rocks. Wave of Mutilation is a favorite. Of course if there is a "monkey" in a song, its a metaphor for "man". Man is level 5, Devil is 6(66), and God is the highest power, 7. Without The Pixies and Husker Du, there would be no Nirvana. Maybe you need to put your Dad on the channel, he definately has good taste in music.
@@Pcrimson1 thanks for the comment. I'll definitely check out the other recommendations to this band. I've thought about asking my dad on the channel but he's quite old school and probably would be particularly camera shy 🤣. I'll see if I can work on him as it would be fun!
Pixies are 🔥🔥🔥. I've been a fan since the early 90s, seen them in concert 3x. Have you ever checked out Tool? If not, I recommend The Pot and see what you think!
@@saracee313 hey, I've had Tool, the pot on my list for some time from a previous request, just haven't quite reached it yet, heard good things about them though! So cool you've seen pixies 3 times, I am going to try to see them if they tour again in the future (no tickets when touring recently unfortunately!)
Yo, I wanna know what you think about the Pixies on Dennis Miller doing 'Planet of Sound.' They kicked so much ass that night, it’s been over 30 years, and my ass is still sore from it!
Oh, you like a wee scream do you? I just may have exactly the thing sir! This is as good an exhibit in the "Why I love the Pixies and you should too ..." canon as you can get. Even if you don't like it, you should at least be able to understand why people who DO like it, like it. It's just so smile-inducing. TAAAAAAAAMMMMME!!! th-cam.com/video/4i6jtsCpImo/w-d-xo.html

That's another of these bands I know I should go into but never did. So thanks Steve to give me a little flavor of them.
