Having grown up in the shadow of Greystone Park, I remember well when it was fully operational with a railroad spur going into the park, cows in the pasture, a big barn and the buildings full of patients, doctors, nurses and other staff. We lived one town away, in Morristown, and drove by it frequently. It's hard to believe it's in this condition now. Back in the 50s, my father was a sales representative for some of the heating equipment used in Greystone. He made a call there once to inspect plumbing, radiators, etc. He told us the sights and sounds were terrible. As you walked through the buildings, the patients got worse. Wards were separated by doors that locked on both sides. By the time you got to the last ward in the extremity of a building all that was there were naked people on the floor in a large room. You coulnd't keep any clothes on them. they'd tear them off. Before the days of drug therapy there wasn't much could be done for these poor souls. He said it was quite scary way out at the end and he feared of being attacked by the patients. However, that said, it's a terrible tragedy these places haven't been repurposed, preserved and put to some good use. Instead they lie fallow as targets for thieves, vandalism and vagrancy. It seems like a terrible waste of resources not to be using these buildings for something. If staffed and run properly, it wouldn't have to be like this. Once again, failure of government to do things right. It seems we haven't learned anything.

No it is not demolished. Central Ave Morris Plains/Parsippany is all you need you can't miss this massive building. Good luck.

A few comments in reply... The camera is mounted on my head for a first-person perspective. While it is too bad you didn't enjoy the video, it is merely a supplement to other content I provide about the location. No story is intended or implied. In some places, talking is just not a good idea. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it and will at least attempt to focus longer in some areas.

I'm sorry but this video was so hard to see anything. Your camera was constantly giggling & you flipped it around too fast. There were many things to see so I had to keep pausing to try to see them!! What were those things that looked like cribs or cages in one area??? What were the things that looked like old metal cots or beds with something metal (like racks) at the top end?? You stopped to open a drawer but didn't let us see what was in it, if anything...
And...What floor were you on??? What part of the hospital was this?? The administration part is being fixed to use for something else in the furture. Maybe you should have talked a little about what was what...
I went to a park area near this place in the early 70s with a friend & they had a group of patients outside for a picnic, fresh air & sunshine. It was nice to see them enjoying it.
All this video shows is how neglected the building is, like any other abandoned building. There is no story here. Wish it was better.
