i’ve only ever played a precision, when i can afford to buy a more high end bass ive always had my heart set on another p but every time i hear this bass or other j’s i always have to reconsider, the amount of growl especially from playing with a pick just sounds so awesome
I think this one in particular packs a punch! Very full sounding 👌
Jonny, you are killing it with these affordable bass reviews. I got the Classic Vibe 60s precision on your recommendation and it is a great passive p bass, vintage motown tones. I also have a vintage modified 70s jazz bass that is incredible. The paranormal jazz sounds amazing as well, great video.
Thanks so much! I'm playing my 60s P bass as I'm typing this! Great choice man 😊 thanks again 👍
IMO I found the Chinese squiers to be superior to the Indonesians in 2020. Every Indo-squier I've played has had some QC issues where the Chinese paranormal was nearly flawless, especially for the price.
Just shows you shouldn't judge on country of manufacturer. Yeah this one has no issues whatsoever. My indo is also spot on, thats the only one I've tried though tbf!
Exactly! Lest we forget the ‘legendary’ first-run Classic Vibe (and Fender Modern Player) guitars and basses were made in China too. Though probably not the exact same factory.
@@jaxonvictoria4345 That's the thing with China. There's so many factories. A lot of them stink, but a lot of them put our quality goods. But the waters do just get muddied because of the sheer volume of stuff in general from China.
That control scheme is actually genius, but I guarantee most bassist will just play with everything all the way up anyway.
I would! But I love a bit of presencey goodness
I actually set both volumes on 100%, bridge tone 25% and neck 75%. Sounds killer.
Nah, too much of the tone knob sounds gross IMO
Is there another way to play lol
4 Sure!
I bought one when they were first released and it's been my go to ever since. Sounds great, plays great, fit and finish is way better than I expected from such a budget friendly instrument. I prefer it over my MTD Kingston Heir and my Spector Dimension 5
Dude! That thing sounds friggin' amazing! Awesome video, sir! You're quickly becoming one of my favorite channels on TH-cam.
It really does. Thankyou man! 😱😍
This would FREAK people out at a show! I wouldn’t even know what I’m looking at, but I really love it!! Thanks for the tone run through, so much variety from just one bass. Great review once again Jonny 🤘🏻🤘🏻❤️
Thanks man! If you want to stand out and still look cool, this is the bass 😎
Getting back into bass after many years out. Just bought a butterscotch blonde, can't wait to get my hands on it! I was tempted by the Cort A5 SCMS, but thought it better to get something a bit more basic and easier to get back into playing. Thanks for the video! 🤘🏾
Awesome! 😄 Yeah I find simpler basses more attractive and also inspiring!? Cheers!
lovin it! keep up the great work.
Thanks very much!!
I just ordered a white one off Reverb! Can’t wait! Should be here in a few days! Love your videos, sir!!
Woohoo! Congrats. Thanks very much 😄
Just pulled the trigger on this one as soon as stock arrived! Can't wait for it!!
Woohoo! Enjoy! 😁😁
Another great and thorough review, I might have to get one of these to make my 54 style p bass
Thanks lad 😍 Oh what a pairing!
@@JonnyDibble I think your reverb link isn't working, when I click it the site says that that page doesn't exist
@@louie8604 ah bloody hell! Thabks mate
Bloody thing was still in drafts!
@@JonnyDibble haha, it's good thing I reminded you 👍
I can't decide between this or the Harley Benton jazz bass, this one is a lot more expensive but I love the vibe! Would pair perfectly with my HB PB50!
awesome vid man thank you, you helped me decide to pull the trigger on buying one 👌
I love the pickguard and control plate nod to history. Very cool. Indeed, white blonde is my favorite.
Such a classy looking bass!
I'm so split between buying a squier classic vibe 70's P bass and this paranormal series... I'm so torn!
I've not played the 70s, but I love my 60s Classic Vibe! This bass is more modern sounding than the 70s I'd say, depends what you're after! 😁
SAME.
@@stramurto I ended up getting a squier 70's vibe P bass. Honestly it plays so well and I'm so glad I chose to purchase that model. Don't get me wrong the Paranormal series is also amazing, but I personally love a more simplistic bass. All depends on whether you want something simple or something which you can play around with a bit more :)
@@olivera.173 At first I was fully oriented on the 70's walnut p bass, I fell in love with it and I want a precision since forever. But then I heard and read of some complaints about the sturdiness of the neck and some noise on the pickups. Are you happy with your purchase? Did you try both or just bought this one?
@@stramurto I'm definitely happy with it. I've only been playing bass for about a year and wanted to upgrade to something a bit more "professional". I haven't tried the paranormal but heard great things about it and in the future I hope to pick one up for a bit of a different sound. The maple neck of the 70's vibe is amazing and makes you never want to stop playing it
I just saw a demo of this bass yesterday and it sounds sweet, it actually sounds like an active jazz bass
Active tone without the battery hassle! Pickups are powerful for sure 💪
The grain in the next is gorgeous!
Really is, got a good'n here! 😍
Thanks for helping me bite the bullet to purchase a sun burst one. The gold/black didn't quite look right with the maple neck. Fit/finish is amazing. It certainly is the best within its class.
I just bought the exact same one as you off the Fender site, I’m dying over here waiting to hear this bad boy
I bought one yesterday and it has a punk rock vibe to it 😅
GREAT VID JONNY!
OH YOU! Thanks Lobster 🥰
Your demo got me excited 🔥. I just ordered the vintage blonde Wow those pickups sound hot 🔥🔥🔥💕💕💕🎸🎸🎸.
Woohoo! Hope you enjoy. Thanks for checking out the video 😁
Love your reviews, man. Keep going and you'll have thousands of subscribers in no time :)
Thank-you so much! 😁
When only that middle pickup is on it sounds a lot like a p bass. You get two basses in one essentially. I must have this for my own
You won't regret it, such versatility! 👌
Great video Jonny!
Thanks mate!
Gotta be the best bass Squier have come up with to date. I'm seriously thinking of getting one.
So cool. Wish they did another bass too though! They did loads of guitars. This ones for sale! 🤪
Great presentation! Thanks. Subscribed.
Thanks very much Paul! 😁
Great Stuff Jonny!
Thank-you good sir! X
Found this from the link in your eBay ad so it's working both ways 👍 Congrats on 700 subs
Wahey! Might start using eBay and Gumtree as my main social media! 😆 thanks man
Especially liked the drone pick at the end well cool 😂👍😊
Thanks very much! 😄
If I remember correctly, the very first JazzBasses Fender had released *also* had two stacked knobs exactly like this here bass 🙂 Not bad at all, this Squier! Although I've never been a fan of the pickguard covering also the whole *upper* horn.
Correct! It's meant to be a 50s P bass style but as a modern jazz 😁
it's useful ,and funny . i like your style man. I am considering one of these and your demo actually helps me decide . (Yes ! I am getting one .Nice and clattery just as I hoped. the stack knobs do lots of other things.I have several Jazz basses but none with those ,and I can see the added value. Plus I gather that these are really well-crafted .
Thanks very much mate! This one's built really well, stacked pots add such a wider range if tonal possibilities! I hope you enjoy the bass if you get one 😊
@@JonnyDibble You're welcome ! So many people try to be funny whilst being informative ,and fail at either one or both ! You have both aplenty and I have subscribed ! Yes the stacked pots are a big attraction. As is a neck without skunk stripe, and with and dots ( always wanted a maple necked one but hate block inlays!),seemingly very good pickups ,and ,possibly ,from what I have read - a 60's neck profile ? (various sites report different things on that. ) it sounds great though ,and the build quality looks to be outstanding for the price. And yes ,thanks to your demo ,which finalises it for me ,I will get one .but I prefer the 'blond' one (albeit to my eyes nearly orange !)
These easily match up with the Fender Player Series. Lately I downsized my collection to 2 basses, one Fender American Professional Precision Bass and this Squier. It’s that good. I chose it over 3 Mexican and 1 American Jazz Basses.
Amazing! Yeah the quality is INSANE. I wasn't too impressed with the player P bass when trying it in the shop, thats what made me pick up my classic vibe! Thanks for checking out the video dude 👊
Jonny Dibble new fan here! Followed on IG and subbed here! Keep doing what you’re doing!
@@jaxonvictoria4345 thank you very much 😁 glad you're enjoying the content 😊
I would have chosen Squier CV over any Fender bass under £1600 ....and i wouldn't have bought one of those because the competition kicked them to bits 😃
Actually love how it sounds
I wasn't blown away when hearing it online, but was way more impressed when had it in person!
IMO, the best jazz tone on stacked knob jazzes is both volumes at 100 and both tones at 50… with a pick 😊
Great review. Trying to decide between this and the Yamaha TRBX 3. I’m a recovering guitar player, this will be my first bass.04
Thanks! Ooh nice. I hear great things aboutthe trbx series! Quite different sounding compared to this passive bsss though. Let me know what you go for!
I just saw one today! It's a real beauty!
Sure is!
@@JonnyDibble Do you own one?
@@susiemuirhead561 Yeah the one in the video is/was mine! I've sold it on though now. Gotta keep the basses coming!
@@JonnyDibble how much are they? Do they have the Paranormal in a 60s version?
@@susiemuirhead561 These retail for around £350. The paranormal range only has 1 bass (in 2 colours) and is only a limited run so there won't be any more, from what we know
Can’t decide if I want the paranormal or the classic vibe 70s
Tough one! The quality control is supposedly better out of the Chinese factory compared to the Indonesian one recently. Whilst I've not experienced it, I have heard a few people getting more lemons from the classic vibe range. I've also reviewed the 70s and I think they're quite different in sound. This one is a bit more modern sounding and diverse with the stacked knobs. Personally I like the Paranornal a little more, but that's just me! Recommend playing in a shop if you can 😄
@@JonnyDibble Meant a lot to get your opinion on this! Thank you for sharing
It has a nice warm and punchy tone, I like the Squier Paranormal series.
It does! Wasn't expecting that!
I bought the Cyclone. FANTASTIC guitar.
If I got one I’d probably replace the lower concentric pot to a 4 way rotary offering bridge only, bridge and middle series, bridge and neck middle and middle on its own with the top control rewired to master vol and tone
That would be cool! Quite like having the individual tone controls but tbh, I have it all on full all the time! 😋
I've heard that it's actually possible to use the fingers of your right hand to play a bass instead of a pick or slapping it. It might be nice to hear it played that way... like in most of recorded music, for those of us who actually play bass for a living.
Pretty sure there's an even balance throughout? 🤨
I was considering getting a Fender Player series jazz but while they sound great, the neck just feels terrible on the ones I've tried. Almost sliced my hand off playing it. Then I saw this bass and it sounds different but just as beautiful and feels so much better. Fender needs to step up their affordable bass game because Squier is continuing to kill it
Oh no! Yeah the fit and finish on this one was really really good. The high end squiers really do give the modern Mexicans a run for their money! Can't wait to see what they bring out this year 😁
@@JonnyDibble I'm personally terrified because I know if its as good as this bass I'll be the owner of a third jazz and I really need to save my money for things like rent and other basses
@@MrMonkeyCommander could always sell a kidney, better than selling a bass right?
@@JonnyDibble I like the way you think!
I was trying basses in 2019 and played several p's back to back ; the only one that really impressed ? The Squier Classic Vibe . The Mexican and cheaper US bass had nothing on it i could find and the American Professional- £1650 - was faulty (i dont know who sucked more- Fender for letting it out of the factory or PMT for throwing it out on display .. ) .
If that was all the money i had i would definitely have got the Squier .
I'm so torn between this one and the Squire Contemporary active J bass. thank you for the video!
Oooh those contemporarys look so mice, especially the newer roasted maple neck ones 🤤 Cheers!
How does this compare to the affinity series jazz bass?
Interesting channel. Thanks for posting. Only one problem with theses is....... they don’t offer a left handed version.
Subscribed.
Thanks very much! Yeah lefties always get the hard done by with these limited runs 😓
LOVELY tone @12:30 😋😋👍👍
Anyone who owns this bass or have played it, how's the neck for this bass? I've read couple of reviews that says that the neck depth is thicker than other jazz bass.
If you had to decide between this and a sterling ray24ca, which would you go with? I currently have a squire PJ and I’m not a fan so I’m looking for a thinner neck.
Personally I think I prefer my Ray24CA, although the neck is closer to my Squier P bass!
You must share the equalization and pedals that you use from the 12th second to the 20th.
Its all the Line 6 HX Stomp 😊 Light compression, EQ with a slight low mid scoop (from memory) and a sansamp clone blended in at 25% 😊
Why is Fret Buzz okay?
To address the concern that us bass players don’t get one thing to ourselves: Dingwall :)
Yes! Might just have to get one on the channel?
Great review! About the low punchy sound and the weight, how does it compare with Sire V3 (in passive mode)?
Thanks! Unfortunately I've never played the V3 so I couldn't say 😕
@@JonnyDibble thank you
Just wondering if the 60 cycle hum is loud? Have the CV 60's P Bass and have serious GAS for this.
I didnt experience any hum with this one! I too have the CV 60s P bass. Squier are killing it! 😊
@@JonnyDibble
Thanks Jonny, appreciate the reply. I'm just getting back into playing again and the wife, kids, house and cars ensure my days of buying Warwick's and Ampegs are in the past so these new Squier basses are really scratching an itch without breaking the bank.
Cheers,
Saw a couple got these videos and genuinely thought you were bigger because of the professional videos. Keep it up you'll get there one day. What would you recommend for a budget 5 string
Thanks Sean! Yeah only been going for 4/5 months 😁 Anything high end squier is great value. I'm currently in the market for a 5 string jazz bass and I'm seriously looking at Cort!
@@JonnyDibble haven't even heard of cort lol. Was mainly looking at squire or sk thank you for the recommendation I'll have a look at them
Did you taken the pickguard off to see if there was any routing under it?
I did not I'm afraid 😔
I can’t decide between this or a epiphone thunderbird
Tough one!I've not played the Epiphone Embassy i recently reviewed has Gibson TB pickups in it which sound awesome. Haven't played an Epiphone TB for years though! What genre?
@@JonnyDibble a more grungy style of rock is the best i can describe the genre and i want a sound thats a closer to a ripper thats the main reason Im looking at the tbird. This bass isn’t too off either tho
@@Owen-ne6pe man, I want a ripper or a grabber SO badly. I play quite a bit of grungey rock and personaly I gravitate towards my P bass! If you roll off the bridge, the jazz would be good but the T Bird would be a rock machine! Tough one!
@@JonnyDibble the p bass is an option to but i feel the jazz style sounds a lot more like the ripper, but honestly the t bird seems like the best option for sound its just the neck dive im worried about
Having some problems with mine, I can't take the neck straight, it's continuously moving and giving me problems on some frets. You noticed that issue too?
Oh no! That sucks. I don't have the bass anymore unfortunately so can't say but I didnt have any warp issues when it was in my possession! How long does it take for it to move after you adjust the truss?
@@JonnyDibble a week I think
@@salvat5776 I'm assuming no massive temperature changes, that's definitely not right though! Is it within any kind of warranty? Worth asking the retailer
When I tried one at the shop, everything 100% lost all the high end. Should it behave like that?
That sounds very weird!
Didn't Ibanez have that control scheme with the Talman TMB 100 ? Not a fan.
Hey! No its different, the TMB100 has an active preamp so its master volume, pickup blend and stacked bass/treble 😊
@@JonnyDibble gotcha. I may have changed my mind Lol. Keep up the great reviews.
@@TheDeckerdecker ooooh plot twist! Thanks very much 😁

This one or the classic vibe 70s?
Tough one! I'd say this though

@@neverbutagain Two amazing decisions 👏 😉 Thanks!
