The 2006 World's Strongest Man saw Phil Pfister become the first American to win the competition since Bill Kazmaier in 1982. The contest took place between in September 2006, in Sanya, China.

2006 was the first time I got to see an American win Worlds Strongest Man. I always liked Phil Pfister, not only for his awesome name but because he just seems like such a cool guy.
When he made his proclamation in 2001 I was sold, and when he did the over head stone press you knew this was his year.
Jessie Marunde had come closer than anyone else in the time I had been watching WSM coming 2nd in 2005, and he had been edged out by I believe Terry Hollands in the heats in 2006.
But Phil Pfister had been the most consistent American Strongman along with the likes of Mark Phillipi and Johnny Perry since the late 90's.
Damn did it feel good to watch him get up that last stone, and that was one serious, hard earned, and overdue celebration.
Still one of my favorite WSM moments.
