    The first Disney Resort we stayed at was Riverside.
    You’re so right, it has such a magical feel. Since that stay we have been coming back year after year.

    Sorry to hear about this, but we too love PO Riverside. Last fall we did a spit stay there. Our disappointment came after we checked into Port Orleans Riverside and went to the lounge to enjoy listening to Yehaa Bob (Absolutely love his show). He wasn't performing. Some other guy was working the piano. He was no comparison. Our waiter informed us that Bob Jackson was on vacation at the time, which is fine. But Disney, with it's infinite wisdom, still showed Yehaa performing all last week if you looked in MDE and MyPlans. So I hit the "feedback" link in the "welcome" email I got after checking into Riverside and voiced my disappointment. To Disney's credit, the phone in our room rang a couple of hours later. Kelly Kline, the resort general manager, personally called us to explain the situation and that he would have Disney's web site updated to reflect Mr. Jackson's absence. We're headed back in May, and will take in Yehaa's show for sure. Focus on the positives, not the little inconvenience Love your channel too.

      I'm so glad that they were quick to respond to you! That's the type of experience I have had in the past, which is why this whole thing was so surprising.
      We SO wanted to see Yehaa Bob. I've heard a TON of great things, but he wasn't playing during our stay. No one was, but that's on us. We just didn't check the schedule when we booked. No big deal! We'll be back 'cause we have heard a lot of amazing things about his performances.
      Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad you enjoy the channel. 😀

    We stayed at French Quarter last week. We love it there and consider it our "home" resort. The theming at French Quarter is nice/OK, but theming at Riverside is SOOO much better, especially the outdoor paths, the different buildings, the cool pool, etc...and the mill always makes me stop and watch. Riverside is HUGE and you can have a long walk to get anywhere. That's why we stay at French Quarter--it is really compact compared to most resorts.

      Interesting. We have a FQ stay planned soon and I'm looking forward to it. I know a lot of people seem to prefer riverside so I'm interested in seeing the difference.

    Your experience was beyond everyone has a bad day. Your description of room conditions at arrival is appalling. I would have made a manager accompany me to the room. Because you took so long to go to the front desk made them think you were looking for compensation. Sadly they probably get that often because they know people will complain about anything to just get something back. Another alarming thing was the lack of response by management there, although you didn't get detailed about what happened. Staying there for a split stay next week, and hoping my room is clean. Haven't stayed in PO in almost 20 years because I prefer other resorts, but this was the only availability I could get. Thanks for the review. Love Russ enthusiasm for Disney. Reminds me of me 20 years ago, before the sucked all the joy out of my soul 😂😂

      You know, if I had to do it all over again, I would have definitely done a few things differently. Hindsight, am I right?! Though, I look at these missteps and not-so-perfect paths as an opportunity to chat about it and help you guys take the right one if you're ever to encounter what I did in the future.
      I have to say though, I agree. This was definitely beyond "everyone had a bad day" and was more along the lines of "the job didn't get done". . . . which is a conclusion we were both struggling to articulate in the moment. Looking back, I think we were both thrown off by the lack of response or even lack of interest in trying to respond to the issue. It's so oposite from what we are used to encountering with Disney when we do bring something to their attention [which we don't do all that often] that we were just so. . . off balance. . . I think that's the word.
      That all having been said, we did reach out to Disney again via the "Feedback" link that was provided to us on check-in via email. We haven't received any sort of response from them yet, but we plan to follow up with you on what the response from Disney turns out to be [if there is any response at all] regarding both the issues we had and the lack of response during our stay. We'll see what happens.

    Our first Disney stay was at POFQ. I loved the vibe-and beignets-duh...and loved the walk up to POR also. But since then we've been trying many resorts out trying to find our little favorite niche. Hubby loves Epcot and AK the most so we tend to land at AKL or somewhere on the Boardwalk the most. It's handy knowing someone I can cheaply rent points from at these DVC resorts. I feel like the POR royal room magic should be in ALL the DVC resorts though-some have been whitewashed a bit! Can you imagine there being fireworks in some form or fashion above all those headboards, no matter the overall motif?

    • @2foolishmortals
      @2foolishmortals  หลายเดือนก่อน

      You know, we often talk [amongst ourselves] about how we wish DVC rooms had a bit more character. . . or even just a bit more Disney magic! Having a few options like the special royal rooms would be great!

    Bless you for wanting to be nice, but your room was not clean nor was it prepared for guests to arrive. This alone warrants a call to the front desk requesting that the housekeeping manager come to your room. Those rooms are far too expensive to let that go. Let the manager decide how to handle the situation.

    • @2foolishmortals
      @2foolishmortals  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I appreciate that. ♥️ I honestly try my best, though I'll admit sometimes it's a bit more difficult than others. 😅 Next time, which I hope doesn't happen, I'll be specifically requesting to speak to the housekeeping manager. Hopefully that will be a better way to communicate an issue like this.

    I would’ve used that voucher in a hot second 😂. U pay good money to stay In there rooms! And the fact u waited so long for it to be ready is unacceptable. Glad they gave u a voucher tho even if u didn’t want it. Also a hidden tip is if u scan ur magic band at the resort before ur room is ready, for some reason ur room will be ready a lot faster. Happened to me at the Polynesian

    • @2foolishmortals
      @2foolishmortals  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nothing wrong with that! 👍 Honestly, if the situation was different we would absolutely have used the voucher. . . this whole situation just had us feeling icky [for a lack of a better word]. I don't know. . . maybe it was the smoke.
      Thanks for the little tip, we haven't heard of or tried that one yet. I'm not sure it would have mattered in this case though. Not only did we check in at the front desk and let them know we would be hanging around the resort to wait for our room, but we also inquired again after 3PM. Didn't seem to have an impact. . . . 🤷‍♀️
      I'd imagine this is just one of those outlier situations though. This type of thing has only happened to me 2 times. . . which isn't all that bad I suppose. 😄

    If you have a dirty room, call or go to the front desk right away and request a cleaning or new room. I’m not sure what the chat was going to do?

    • @2foolishmortals
      @2foolishmortals  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We weren't sure either, but information we got at check-in suggested that if we had any problems or concerns we use the feature, so we gave it a shot. [Sometimes we try things like this to see how they work so that we can tell you guys whether or not it's an option worth going with.] We were making our way to the front anyway to grab dinner, so the plan was to go to the front desk if we hadn't heard back by the time we got there. . . . it just turns out that on the way the chat said it couldn't help. That's not the problem though, we knew it would be hit or miss. It's when we got to the front desk that things got a bit weird.

    I’m going to be honest and frank here and provide my own story to shed some light on why I feel this way. Disney management just isn’t what it used to be. For every 5-6 great interactions there is now a “I don’t want to be here, get me out of here WHAT DO YOU WANT?!” Interaction. These used to be 1 out of 100 but are now so much more commonplace.
    Right before the pandemic shutdown of March, 2020 (10 days prior to be exact) my wife and I stayed at the Polynesian using our DVC points. We found the room entirely messed up and probably worse than how you found your room at Riverside. Luckily we always come prepared with a can of Clorox wipes, which we used entirely because this room seemed to have not been serviced at all. Many of the wipes came up brown with dirt and grease. The shower had hair on the wall and on the drain. Our backlight revealed biohazard on the wall next to the bed and some spatter on our ready to go pillows, then the kicker…we know the room wasn’t serviced because we found a whole risqué BDSM costume/outfit in the closet. We’re talking mask, leather, the whole thing. We couldn’t let this go, so we informed the front desk by phone which also had a bunch of grime off the Clorox wipes. They informed us that they can give us a different room but it wouldn’t be in our tower and it wouldn’t be lake view. We declined that, as we had already done the extensive cleaning save for the shower, tub and we’re not touching someone else’s kinky outfit. So their next resolution was to have us step out of the room for a couple of hours while they did a deep clean of it. We basically pointed out that the walls, bathroom and floor space could probably use that but not to worry about surface areas such as the dresser and nightstand and table because we already cloroxed everything. That was the end of our interaction and it’s the reason we now just rent our Poly DVC points out. The first 3 stays we had there were spectacular but that last one made us never want to go back. I wish we were offered a quick service voucher! Instead we were made to unfairly feel like we were Karen’s complaining about cleanliness and no compensation was offered despite a whole sex outfit being in the closet.
    Great vid, as always, guys. Hope this message reaches you 😊

    It's too bad all those things happened! It is sad that it impacts the magic, especially in that amazing room - but it does! Customer service could be improved in response to issues! They need to ensure people feel heard, valued, and sincerly appologize. I wonder if it's training or also cutbacks on staffing and then people are over-stretched, and the level of 'I care' is impacted? Love that room!

    • @2foolishmortals
      @2foolishmortals  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is too bad and it does impact the magic for sure. . . but also just makes things that much more stressful, which is not a good way to start a vacation.
      You know, I think it's a combination of things that I could honestly spend the entire day talking about. However, what it really boils down to is that "customer service" and "quality" don't hold the same meaning or value to Disney as it once did. Don't get me wrong, I'll be the first person to say that Disney is first and foremost a business focused on profits. However, they achieved that with optics and tactics that made guests feel valued. This has shifted and what I don't think they realize as a company is that not all guests are willing to bring their own rose colored glasses. . . you have to provide them from time to time.

    I’m so sorry you didn’t have the best experience. My brother and sister in-law had a similar experience at the Cabins last weekend. There was a blood stain on one of the pillows in the bedroom and the Murphy bed had dirty sheets on it. Wasn’t the greatest impression for people who haven’t been to Disney in over a decade but they made the best of it and still had a great time!
    Riverside has become my favorite Moderate Resort. I might even like it better than a majority of the Deluxe Resorts. 🫢 I did a split stay between Riverside and AKL and although staying at AKL was a dream come true, it didn’t quite feel like home, like Riverside feels for us. We also stayed at French Quarter and I do like how small that Resort is and I also enjoy the New Orleans theme to it. But again, wasn’t as great as Riverside. I might just be biased at this point though lol

      You know, I don't have a lot of Riverside stays under my belt. We stayed back in the early 2000s and I wasn't all that into it. . . but now looking at it with new eyes. It's a beatiful resort. I'm looking forward to staying at FQ here soon. I've been to both before, but never stayed at FQ so I'm curious to see how it stacks up to Riverside. Lots of people seem to prefer Riverside though. Either way, thanks for sharing your experience and love for the resort. ❤️
