Beware of hybrid French drains!

A homeowner called us to fix a problem caused by another contractor. The contractor installed what's called and "American drain" that's a hybrid between a channel drain and a French drain which is not a good idea because it clearly allows surface debris and sediment to enter your drain without a way to clean it. This system will eventually fail.
