Great info! I got my mguiars halfway thru a rescue job that was going from bad to worse (last coat wouldn't dry! madness!), so I cut some corners quite badly and so it looks only just okay. But, now I have time to study this whole restoration art properly and get prepped to take them both back down early next year. It's deceptively complex - easy to screw up for sure!

I saw this and I was like not going to happen to me. My did not run but I did the extra coat just “be on the safe side” approach and it just got cloudy. It was already perfect but curiosity got the beast of me. Thanks for the video
Man nothing goes to waste with you. I like it. Just finished 1 of 4 cars and it came out perfect first attempt. I counted and you hit 5 light passes with the clear coat.
Which polish compound did you use to fill in the poly lens before you apply the clear? Looks like it’s at the 8:42 time mark. Your description lists 3M hard lens cleaner and Chemical guys headlight restorer. I’m a bit confused as to which product was used specifically to fill in the micro scratches left behind by the sandpaper
I just tried the Meguiar's 17804 for the first time. The overspray error seen in this clip is easy to make. I kind of did this on my first lens, but the other lens was better. I think it's easy to allow the strokes to last a fraction of a second too long. The spray should consist of short, conservative strokes. For anyone interested, the spray works fine in cold weather.
Hi can I use meguaire headlight coating on convertible tops plastic window? I just had my plastic window professionally sand down to perfect clean but I don't feel meguaire plastic x does the same protection as this coating.
Thanks for another great video. Made this mistake. Gotta go back and fix it as soon as the weather cooperates. Not happy about it, but learn from our mistakes. Happy and safe holiday season!
@The Headlight Restoration Pro it's the not so good yet part that is my fault. And few other factors. But I will not give up! You are inspiring me in so many ways.
Thanks for putting links to the products. I want to use your method on my own car and I want to be as exact as possible. I, previously, used Cerekote but I messed it up and it didn't last.
Yeah most the kids are kind of misleading.. there's a plenty of room for error and they're not typically for every light this method can be used on any light on any stage of degradation..
The same thing happened to me the other day. I caught it while it was still wet and lightly wiped the dripping away and sprayed a little more on the area and it came out perfect.
I'm glad you made this video! I'm trying to learn as much as I can about this process before tackling it on my vehicles next spring. This is the exact situation I could see myself ending up in, being a little heavy handed with the spray... It is great to see how quickly it can be fixed to perfection. BTW that polishing of the vehicle looks absolutely phenomenal as well!! I'll have to add that 6" polisher to my Xmas list!
Yes mistakes happen time to time it's part of the process you just have to deal with it and the best way.. and yes that polisher is pretty good whenever I review something whether I like it or not I try to shoot it straight and that little polisher kicks ass..💯
Good morning and Happy New Year Mr. Headlight pro. I have a question for you. I'm your experience how many times can we sand and restore a headlight? Thank you so much for all your amazing videos!😊
Theoretically you can almost do have the restoration throughout the life of the vehicle... You only going to need another restoration every other year or even further even if you needed it every single year if you have a skilled professional that knows how much to remove which most cases would just be the clear coat you're talking 25- 40 headlight restoration Restorations estimate... Literally no vehicles going to be on the road for more than 20 years more than likely that would be 10 or less headlight Restorations....
Do you have to use a polish before putting on the meguir’s clear coat? I have the meguirs plastx polish but not sure if I should use it before clear coating
I've done this a couple of times. Good old tar remover pretty much melted the coating off because it hadn't really set properly. In UK we have Autosmart who sell tardis and I use this in a pump sprayer.
I used your technique to restore headlights on my 2014 Silverado and it came out great, thanks! I did however get just a few slight drips like you corrected in this vid, but my clear coat has already cured. Honestly it’s not bad enough to make me want to redo the light, I figure I’ll just correct it when I have to redo the light again in a year or two. The meguairs coat states it lasts for a year, at that point or when it fades do you recommend just replacing the clear like in this video or do you need to get back into the plastic headlight again as well? Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience!
No no no.... Not with this method and is unnecessary when doing headlight restoration... As long as you're using headlight restoration products... This is a zero Orange Peel product that dries with air (oxygen exchange) not heat.... I hear what you're saying but that's for stuff that's not designed for headlights.(totally different methods like wet sanding maybe).. With this method typically the light is warm enough through all the working and dry sanding and polishing...th-cam.com/video/h-8BKUEVGRY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=h5-Yw-Ntzrbp7OYG
So you didn’t clean the headlights with a cleaner or iso alcohol after polishing. The polishing compound is still on the headlights and then you spray meguair headlights restore over the polishing compound. How will the meguair headlight restore stick?
Wipe on is inferior to anything spray... Any wipe it on is adulterated unpure.. Always leave streets even if you don't see them right away uneven cohesiveness and typically too thin of application ... Little tiny fibers and things like that left behind from the pad used to put it on... Spray is very surgical and clean unadulterated there's no in between it just goes straight on and forms a perfect shell... Most anything made for headlights that is spray is going to be better.. this is also what the factor uses for many reasons it's just a superior method of application.. could you imagine wiping on clear coat on a vehicle,.. or wiping on paint....lol
Let's say in 6, 7 or however many years when the Meguiar's coating needs to be redone, will it come off quick like your redo or will it pretty much have to be the whole restoration process? And also I think I know the answer to this question but should I wait for the springtime to do my headlights? Temps are getting down to 40 and could go lower.
Whatever it does go bad that you want to replace it it comes off even easier than shown in this video because it has been sitting and have have time to fully cure this is just the initial here which still a little gummy when you're removing.. it's super easy to remove once it's lived its full life or past the secondary curing... Forest temperatures thats what this is about... th-cam.com/video/LnIqK8zRCI0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RTS9Nw2ieQXFoEqX
Great video but I also been doing headlight restoration for years and also use Meguiars. If you ever mess up you actually don’t have to sand it to get off. I use the same compound that I buff with to remove it. It comes right off with no issues in a couple of minutes. After I clean up the residue I recoat the light and it always comes out perfect. Give a try sometime and you’ll same time by not having to sand again. On another note your on point saying there is no permanent solution. 2k is actually the worse when it goes bad and a nightmare to remove.
i coated mine but i realized there is a problem with the this coating. it creates some granularities that act like diffusive layer and the as a result smoothens the light pattern by increasing its dispersion rather then keeping it sharp like it comes from the factory when the car is new!. so the result is not restoring it to a condition identical to that of a new lamp. i guess the only way to fix it is to follow orange peel removal approach just like doing to paint by using denim pad to level it. this is what i intend to do, hopefully it will increase clarity of the cover to factory level.
Well you must be doing something wrong... You see my end results are perfect every single time...and night vision is enhanced by far...no orange peel and no need to polish...(if you don't follow what I do and use what I use yes your lights are going to be sub-par ) This is the best coating out..hands down...this was more than likely an operation and or application error.. Further more.. You've seen how much clarity I get with my finished product....no factory light actually functions better than my finished product...that is why the lights look so much better than the day they rolled off the lot...(the lighting is most definitely enhanced) the problem is simple, most people don't follow directions...I'm showing perfection..so why try to change the process... it's a mathematical - scientific process that I've performed on over a 1000 lights and like 3 dozen videos..
Are the drips a problem or is it just a cosmetic thing? I just did my headlights and got some dripping but really don't want to redo the process if I don't have to.
It's purely a cosmetic thing it does not affect how your headlight works at all unless it's an excessive amount of drips... It's just a perfect smooth or deal with like a little drip.. but in terms of dealing with a customer somebody who's paying for it is an issue sometimes not but I considered an issue just because they pay for perfection... But it's 100% cosmetic..
Makes sense. I did my own headlights so I'll just roll with it until I have to redo them and be a bit more careful with the spray next time.@@theheadlightrestorationpro
@ethwoodard that's what I would do just always make sure you shake the can really well till it starts feeling lighter... And do really fast passes you see in 10 seconds I'm already done coating..
Hey Pro, I found that is comes right off with alcohol just like is says on the can. Seriously I put some on way too heavy and it did strange things as it dried. It may have been to hot as the can had been in the sun. It took some rags but was much easier that sanding. Still had to buff it some for clarity.
You'll never obtain the clarity doing that guaranteed as I have tried this before many times it only works on thin coats so you probably had too thin of a coat even though you thought it was heavy.. my coats are super thick the proper way to apply them are super thick it will not work on a dried surface on slight over spray and stuff like that all day.. Also you'd be doing the headlight a disservice even if it did come all the way off the alcohol is going to react with the polycarbonate and or other stuff and really fuck up your clarity also it goes under coding even though it's off the surface it's not off those porous environments.. so that's what they tell you and that's what you do but it doesn't really come all the way off much better to start off trust me I am a professional who has done well over a thousand headlights probably with just this product alone.. It might have seemed to work but your product should be a lot better than what it is I'm sure.. And when you're a professional and striving for the highest level of results you can accept this because I know from experience it will not be no matter what you do you have to take it back down this is bullshit spewed upon the public just to make it easier to use for people and they know most people won't be professionals will just be happy because their headlights better not perfect... I've used it a couple of times in "testing" only, never as part of a resurface on a light and left it. I've only used it a couple of times testing but not impressed... I picked up the 3 stage kit (1, 2 and 3 products) out of curiosity, I don't plan on using it commercially tho.
I got my headlights done at VIP tires and whatever they used to spray it maybe a heat gun left a spray of the clear coating splattered all over my windshield and possibly most likely on my car. 😩It’s also on both of my passenger and driver side windows. How do I remove this? I tried using alcohol, but it got smearing and now my window is all smeared and a mess. 😩What can I do or use to get my window clean? Please help🙏🏽
Try a clay bar, if your window is messed up badly you can try putting #0000 steel wool with soapy water on it and just rubbing it away, not pushing too hard and letting it do the work.
Restored my headlights and have over spray, definitely think it was because of the cooler weather. It's early November. It isn't terrible enough to have to fix it now but annoying nonetheless
Just curious if you have been watching any of these videos????????? The clear coat is either non-existent, and will be replaced.. or bad and will be replaced.. such as performed in every single video...😵💫
I finally extensively Sanded my 2004 Toyota headlights. Previously to that, a >FINE, polish, yearly, seamed OK.... after getting them really clear, i sprayed on a clear coat, only to have it extensively fog & then crackle- apparently I'd put on a clear coat b/4 Lacquer & varnish, don't mix. Now, the BRAND NEW ones look GREAT..L0L
No the spray Max 2K is a terrible product to use for headlights even if it's the one that says for headlights they're pretty much the exact same just what has a little bit more UV repellent.. anything that has a hardener like that is just terrible product and not meant for headlights no matter what they say. It's actually the worst thing you can put on headlights to cake there in general butt spray Max is definitely the worst out of all of them.. what I use is far superior and much much better for headlight restoration and headlights... If you want more information about it check out the link in the bio... Also it's used in every video The clarity is unmatched it's the most amazing have my product out there ..
I found a way to fix this easily but it has to be quick, I now carry a bottle of acetone and a rag with me right beside me when I spray it saved me now two times, I know ideally you don’t want this happening but when it does acetone wipes this stuff off if wiped up to 5 minutes after spraying and give it a polish, I also make sure to put acetone on the rag then wipe, also if anyone does this make sure to wipe the acetone off with the glass cleaner afterwards because I found that it messes with the new clear coat getting sprayed on, lol found out and had to respray twice the first time I tried with acetone.

When can they wash it with this method? People often ask when’s the earliest they can wash it.
In the winter top when it reaches under 50° - 72 hours 3 days...
In the summer where it's much hotter all day all night 24 hours 1 day.....
Restored my headlights and have over spray, definitely think it was because of the cooler weather. It's early November. It isn't terrible enough to have to fix it now but annoying nonetheless
How do you ensure that the clear coat is not damaged?
Not sure what you're referring to..?
@@theheadlightrestorationpro Whenever you sand off the headlights, how do you ensure that the sanding action doesn't damage the headlight clearcoat?
Just curious if you have been watching any of these videos?????????
The clear coat is either non-existent, and will be replaced.. or bad and will be replaced.. such as performed in every single video...😵💫
Watch some of my videos please...
Is that headlight spray a clear coat similar to the spraymax 2k? I have runners like yours with the spraymax. Have to redo my headlights aswell 🤦♀️
@@theheadlightrestorationpro Thanks! I have to redo my headlights when weather clears up. Dont have a garage so have to do it outside.
You got this ...🫵🏽🦾
Outside is fine I do 99% of my headlight Restorations outside in any given weather..💯
@@theheadlightrestorationpro Yeah, just have to pick the right day tho... dry n preferably sunny & nice temperature.
Great video..Pro -much appreciated!
what are your thoughts about using 2inch sanding pads vs 3 inch pads. i see a lot of headlights with lots of tight spots to get into
Haven't got to yet but if you turn a slight angle on the drill tip you'll be able to get into a lot of angles the ones that you can't I hand sand..
@@theheadlightrestorationpro good to know thank you
👍🏽
Oh here it is. It's what thought. Nice. You know to get a can of the blue to me in Europe costs 25$ a piece. I ordered 6 too. Nuts eh
😱😱😱😱
I found a way to fix this easily but it has to be quick, I now carry a bottle of acetone and a rag with me right beside me when I spray it saved me now two times, I know ideally you don’t want this happening but when it does acetone wipes this stuff off if wiped up to 5 minutes after spraying and give it a polish, I also make sure to put acetone on the rag then wipe, also if anyone does this make sure to wipe the acetone off with the glass cleaner afterwards because I found that it messes with the new clear coat getting sprayed on, lol found out and had to respray twice the first time I tried with acetone.

Where are you located, I will pay for your service. Great quality work.
Sorry not located anywhere near you... Appreciate you viewing though..💪🏼💯
@@theheadlightrestorationpro the number on your website says 561 are you in boca Florida? If so you are very close to me and would like to call and make a appointment.
I have no idea what number you're speaking of but not located there..
And I don't have a website on here
@@theheadlightrestorationpro that sucks I found a website using your name that is close to me , I guess I will have to use them instead.
Yeah they're definitely not me..lol
we want a video with very deep spider cracks lol. trying to do my father in laws headlights but they didn't come out with the 500 grit so wondering if the cracks are from the inside or just very deep
Sometimes this is the case ..you can only work with what you got...
You're a great guy! Thank u for ur video on an easy mistake. It's very informative & helpful to ALL! We can TELL u know what ur doing. Great work/job! 👍 up'd & sub'd! Have a 🎄Merry Christmas!🎄
Thank you so much... Merry Christmas🎄
wanted to get your take on "vapor" headlight restoration.... sounds a bit fishy
Could a drill be used to polish, or does it have to be a polisher?
It can be used to polish but you must know that it's not going to do nowhere near as good as a job but it can get the job done if that makes sense...
I did my lights a week ago and at night the light is uneven with bright spots, ever seen this?
No .. can't say that I have..
Working at night you gotta have the right lighting..
Love the "permanent" guys, about the time you need to utilize their warranty, you'll find they're (surprisingly) no longer in business.
Exactly because they'll have a hundred people talking about you said permanent and it's going bad...lol
There's no such thing as permanent headlight restoration the entire vehicle even the metal damn near is not permanent and working function..lol
Well said....
@@theheadlightrestorationpro same issue with window tinters, that "$100 lifetime warranty" guy is usually nowhere to be found a couple years later when the garbage turns purple and gets wavy.
@jameslovitt994 yeah... exactly 💯
You could have used 91% isopropyl alcohol to smooth out the drip.
I don't understand why remove it all when you could just knock down the run and repolish
Doesn't work that way... You have a less than perfect light that you can visibly see where the run was.. and I only deal with perfection especially as doing this professionally I can't consciously sell somebody an inferior product it's not good business... And no matter what you do no matter how good you think you are or how easy it is or whatever you will be able to tell that it was there...
@@theheadlightrestorationpro Exactly, good business sense. You would not try and sell a second as a first, in any line of business. Once word got out, and it would, you would be finished. Especially now days with social media, and the internet.
Exactly that's pretty much why I'm the best to where I'm at and maybe even more or than likely 🤓😎 while I'm a few shy then a hundred solid 5-star reviews and a very short time... Got to practice good business..
I did everything and my lights are cloudy 😭😖
Must be your lights.... sorry to hear that ..
@@theheadlightrestorationpro they were yellowish at the beginning and I tries plast x and they were ok but not too clear, then I tried this and after applying the clear coat they turned cloudy worst than the beginning 😖😭 can I just repolish whit plastx another day??
One of the biggest issues is you didn't do everything that I do...
You're not using the same supplies that I'm using... Plastic x it's a very terrible product very basic...
@@theheadlightrestorationpro ok can I just re polish using a better product over the clear coat?
@@theheadlightrestorationpro both products I used are meguiars, the clear coat is the same one u used 😖
You don’t say what type of polish you used before you spray again. Can you enlighten please?
It's the same polish on every single video damn near also in the bio.... Everything used is listed in the bio it's the 3M polish.
@@theheadlightrestorationproyou also listed chemical guys headlight restorer in your bio…
Thanks. I want to remove this crap product because it made my new headlights FOGGY
Watch couple my videos see how they come out.. follow my instructions.. no one that I've ever seen has a more clear headlight than my product..💯
Thanks for watching.

Yeah, the only permanent headlight restoration would be replacing the lenses with glass.
I like your work & channel, but if I can make a suggestions; don't be so egotistical and arrogant. There a are people ttat can do a better job or just as good sir & I'm sure you have a lot more subscribers.
