Early on, Clay was a badass even if he was a subliminal villain. He wasn't afraid to get blood on his hands and sure as he'll wasn't gonna let anyone walk over him.
S1-3 Clay was the perfect villain. A really good 50/50 of disgraceful shit that makes you hate him, but also bad ass enough to not make you totally hate him. After Piney or when he really went hard on trying to cover up JTs book is when he became too much of a prick
Scenes like these remind me how critical of a character Unser was in this show. He always towed the thin line between outlaw and law abiding but at the same internalized his own emotional thin line with Gemma. And Jax too to some extent, since he looked after him as if he was his own son. What a troubled character that ended up in a troubled predicament.
Unser was an absolute shit cop to the max. Easy to be used and manipulated like a child by criminals . He was made sympathetic but really he was a pathetic creature as far as his policing goes.

There would have been no making up after that.
