These are very smart & emotional dogs with the greatest work ethic I've ever seen outside of Border Collies. Always on duty against coyotes & other predators, but loving & gentle w/stock, cats, poultry, us. New pup on duty te 2nd night. And she *grins!"

@@WHiddenHoovesI think the fact that mine was mixed with golden retriever and they tried to sell him as off as a golden but being 21weeks and 36.5 lbs today and the vets blood work showing otherwise, I don’t think I was the best for him he sees geese as enemies number one and he goes right into a point every time he sees them. I never let him close unless they come into our yard for him to chase the away from the garden.
the puppy is just wanting to play with the baby goats but the big dog is instilling a serious work ethic so he can relax a little...just goes to show how serious these guard dogs take their job

The biggest shame in all of dogdom is how short-lived they are. When I was a teenager I babysat for a neighbor that had two Great Pyrenees, and my god if I don’t think about them more often than I do about Holly, the girl I babysat. They were such peaceful souls that would rip your throat out of you threatened their people (also I was one of their people, it was an honor). Also my phone dictionary recognizes the word “dogdom” but doesn’t recognize actual words that are in the dictionary.
This is why I love having a well trained and socialized dog. He has been used to help show young or timid dogs proper interactions in a gentle way but has had to do the tackle/pin (followed by immediately releasing) with inappropriate behaviors. It’s incredible how fast the other dogs respond to that!
We once had a VERY independent and energetic Lab. When we encountered friendly dogs on our walk, she kept jumping up towards their faces. Some dogs just turned away from her, but she persisted a couple times. Finally, 1 dog had seen enough, and had our dog on its back and firmly held down by a very big paw. We saw our dog go suddenly limp (surrender signal) and then the DOG let my dog up. No cries, no panic, no fears. Our dog had just been schooled, and was much easier to walk.
We love our great pyrennes. She is great with our kids and very protective. I have no problems leaving my wife and kids home alone while I work at night because she is there and will "take care" of any problems which might occur.
My Uncle had a Great Pyrenees, I would bring him chew toys he would play with them but never harm them in any way!!!! My uncle said they were Lances treasures!!! Loved that dog!!!!
The adult used firm gestures and movements to train the little one. No beating, whipping...just firm gestures. We humans could learn a lot from these magnificent creatures. ❤❤

I love how gentle GPs are with little ones of all kinds. Lost my Po to Parvo after his daughter caught and he nursed her through it. He never showed a symptom until the day she showed improvement. 24 hours later he was gone. On Christmas Eve.
That ear tug is something which cats do to their kittens too, and it's also how I taught my most boisterous boy not to bite or scratch in a mean way. He and his brother and sister are the lights of my life and my Pride and Joy. (Yes, they are cats and I am their human mother, it's not animal abuse and we are a very loving little tribe).

I have always found it easier to train young dogs when I have a skilled older dog to do the majority of the work. I love how your big dog always steps in at the crucial point to explain 1 MORE TIME what is acceptable behavior and what is not.
