This is very helpful..I've been getting the 'out of space' notification for the last month and was trying not to give in & purchase space. I'm going to try these steps. Thanks so much for the knowledge! What I did before seeing your video was (and this was time consuming) delete everything from my promotion folder and social folder (since for me there's nothing there I need to keep) and it did free up space as I had so many social and promotional emails. The promotional emails can take up a lot of space. Anyway, I stopped getting the notification for a while but as I took more pictures or video, of course I eventually ran out of space again so trying your tips will really help. Thanks so much.

you know I was confused at first of what you're trying to show to us in the beginning of the video, but you are showing US how to create a file just in case if we accidentally delete the important files that we are looking for, so we can still have more space for the current Gmail, So thanks for that

Low storage, I have a lot of subscriber emails that could be eliminated, searching using keyword "unsubscribe" can help gather them and they can be dumped at that point...

Scott, I have been dealing with this issue for the last three weeks and can't get it corrected. The space hog in my Google Drive are photos shared with me. While I mark them for removal, they do not show up on the trash folder nor do they go away. Perhaps the photos are being reloaded from the friend who gave them to me? What can I do to get rid of them? HELP!

I have been experiencing this messages for the last week. The main issue has been photos “shared with me” which I mark for removal. They disappeared but they did not go to the Trash folder; however the space available does not improve. Any suggestions?
"Low Storage". I tried the search "before date" tip you gave and I found Google docs and spreadsheets that I thought I had deleted years ago still in my Google Drive. They weren't visible in the normal Drive view. I don't know where they were hiding. Thanks.

I have a question - I found a load of photos on my Google Drive when I searched before 2018 (thanks for that tip as I had no idea they were there!). When I try to download them it sends the files to a zip but it's so large I cannot open it on my PC - what do you suggest? This is going to clear a huge amount of storage on my Drive but I'm stumped as to how to remove the pics without deleting them.

Hi again! I still haven't done it, could you tell me the steps. I thought this G Drive was already the back up. Can I also DL all my email stuff from GG Drive? They tell me if I don't do anything about it I will loose it.
Low storage! But Im "selecting all" (not just 50...ALL) from my promotions folder. It says there are over 18,000 in the folder. I click delete and it is not removing them. Any thoughts?

I wish Take-out would give me a sense of how many days it will take… If I understand correctly I cannot empty the trash until the Take-out is done, correct? Or could I start emptying trash even now? Yes, you should wait for the Backup to be complete and save that file accordingly. Because once you empty the Trash, it will be gone for good.
Please help me, when i press on storage it shows nothing but its says 16.33 out of 15 gb and i also deleted some random on my drive and it still didn't change
Hey Scott, low storage - is there a way to easily do a MASS delete. The last remaining clearing of storage are hundreds and hundreds of kb size files. To delete them I am forced to scroll dow page after page after page to accumulate more files. For example; after scrolling down what seems to be endless scrolling I stopped and had 900 files selected. But I wasn't finished yet.
To continue, I then clicked delete and I am now watching a twirling icon waiting for Google to confirm they're deleted. When Google does, I have to repeat this process over and over. Is there a better way?

One of my friends purchased 2gb storage from Google drive and shared with me to work on projects. Before this, i was using default 15 gb drive. I see the new shared files and available space within my own drive screen but i faced a problem months later. Today, Google tells me that 99.5% of storage is full and i must upgrade. When i checked the available space of my drive, i see that more than half of it empty. I think the shared directories of my friend caused this problem. Should my friend remove the share with me? I want to get back to use my own drive which is 50% empty currently.

in the instructions it says it will send you an email when the backup of gmail is done. well how is it doing that if i cant get email to begin with since i am out of storage

Im sorry Scott, can you help? I was not clear on my earlier post. I keep getting low storage sign. I delete a ton but my storage never goes down. I did go through your video and did a backup with takeout. Now not sure how to put files back into my gmail and drive and photos. Do I delete first?
Don't forget to go to your Trash and empty that as well. Your storage won't be reduced until the files are actually gone, not just moved from Delete to Trash. I hope that helps!

I have my Gmail set to delete files from the Bin every 30 days - instead of manually doing it. Guess Drive must work from that same setting but need to check.

There is where the backup and download step can be so helpful. Once downloaded, you can store these files anywhere you like.

Low storage: How can I safely copy all of my emails to a different app / email account that has greater capacity than Google @ only 15 GB.
I'm currently at 14.99GB!

Low storage, when we finally remove the data frm Google drive after we export the data...we can still hv all those data in our backups right
It depends on what you mean by "backups" in this case. Here's a breakdown:
Google Drive Trash: When you delete data from Google Drive, it goes to the Trash folder. Files remain there for 30 days before automatic deletion. So, within that timeframe, you can restore them if needed.
Separate Backups: If you've explicitly created backups of your Google Drive data elsewhere (like on your external hard drive), then yes, those backups will still have the data even after you remove it from Drive and empty the Trash.

Why dies no one say how to get to the drive screen ? You just say now in your drive screen !!! After being a spaz and clicking on everything I got to the drive page, but the storage # is not pickable

Remember that your storage is the total of your email, files, and photos. Perhaps you have something in the other categories?
I am at 98% permanently. It sucks. Its is 14GB Google Photos in my case.
Did not know about google-takeout. Nice idea to free at least a few 100 mb of E-Mail Account immediately after backing up. Nice. (still @ low storage)

Make sure that you've emptied the trash as well. Anything that is still stored in Trash will be counted towards your limit.
I get this message everyday and I have 90 emails in my inbox 300 pictures and like 20 videos in my gallery on S21 Ultra it's ridiculous
