Got to meet Luke, his beautiful wife, and his dad this evening. For all of you wondering, yes, they are the most nice, funny, and genuine people out there. It was a pleasure meeting you all! Keep the great content coming!
You are an old soul, young man. I admire your ingenuity, resourcefulness and especially your drive and attitude. Keep plucking away at it. You have lots to be proud of already.
Luke I am raising two boys. I pray that they will work as hard as you do to use resources available and not be wasteful. I don't know where you got your work ethic but you are a joy to watch. May the Lord bless you and your wife.😊
#ProTip: 1.2 , @LukeMcFadden, if you want to freeze / shrink something, you can easily get into a freezer? Use dry ice on the part while it's still in place, the shaft, then heat the gear. Voila, it will pop right on. Btw the way Luke I've said it before and will continue to when it applies. I love your ability to engineer things out of necessity into something you can use. I am same way. I love re-purposing things and saving them from the landfill/scrapyard. Have Titanium 4 in 1 welder and Titanium Plasma cutter, will create!! Lol. Luke you remind me so much of myself. Why go buy an expensive piece of gear when you can build it yourself out of scrap virtually for FREE! Love the content, keep up the great work!❤❤
You remind me of my friend Pat so very much. I lost him just over twenty years ago because he couldn't get out of his own head. Always remember that the thinking that gets you to solve problems is the same thinking that can get you through life. If it was easy, anyone could do it. Keep up the good work, kid.
I truly appreciate You always working outside the box, even when building a box. Inventiveness, rather than spending money, goes a long way and you've got it down to a flawed, yet beautiful, science. Kudos!
Necessity is the mother of all inventions. Love your tenacity, I was a pro fisherman for 30 years and anything to eliminate manual labour when you are 12hrs on the ocean stops fatigue.
little tip from an old man , heat something if you want it to expand , freeze it if you want it to be smaller ,for example we freeze outer wheel bearing races before installing they almost fall into the axel housing when frozen , to get them out you run a bead of weld on the outer race face and that shrinks it once it cools , keep up the good work love the lateral thinking you adopt , only way to reach your goals
When ya got the tools, technology and a creative mind you can do anything. Congratulations on that build impressive. Love the content you are a Hoot crazy kid. Be safe ✌️
Alright... I'm only 7 1/2 minutes into this video and I'm going to say it now... YOU'RE A FRIGGIN' GENIUS!!! Nice job on that line-managing-cog driven-shopping cart-wheel thingy.
Yo Luke, you truly are a mechanical engineer! I'm 65 and we call all you do, jack of all trades,is a Master of none. But oftentimes better than a master of one, you are a prime example of it. And your sense of humor is a big part of who you are.
That was impressive. A+ on backyard ingenuity and engineering. Got to love when that random piece of junk that has bean laying around for 10 years finally gets used.
Love it all...the sketchy fabrication, the testing and thought going into it all. Its a hoot watching you. Those blues are there in January believe me. Get a good fish finder if you don't already have one. Here anyway they'll stack up chasing shad. Find the bait fish find the blues. Best to you.
1/2" or 5/8" copper tubing, wrap it around the muffler exhaust closest to the motor, without creasing. Put a bigger copper tubing to go around your hydraulic lines. 4-5 wraps around that. Seal both ends after filling with antifreeze. This will warm up your hydraulic fluid so it won't freeze or be sluggish. Or get a 12volt oil drum heater placed in hydraulic oil and run. From a West Coast fisherman to an East Coast fisherman. Let me know if it works for you.
My father was a fisherman on the east coast for many decades....but that the East Coast of Queensland, Australia lol. He also fished the West Coast of Queensland aka the Gulf of Carpenteria as well as the Torres Strait, all.around the north of Papua New Guinea and the Great Barrier Reef all the way down to the Whitsundays. Your vids give me great memories of the amount of machines he fabricated out of junk and imagination. He used to use 12 volt windscreen wiper motors from old cars constantly, coz they are abundant and cheap or free, run in 12 volts so they're variable speed and reversible as well as having an incredible amount of torque. I'd highly recommend them, that way you don't have to worry about hydraulics or parts if it breaks down out in the middle of nowhere, coz you can always keep a couple of spares laying about and all you need is a 12v power supply and some wire and solder. It's easy to weld on bike cogs and use bike chains too. I could probably write a SHTF type book about all the things that you can do and power with just 12 volt windscreen wiper motors. (The Merlin was the engine of WW2 ....12v windscreen wiper motors will be the engine of the Apocalypse 😅)
Luke the cats are in deeper water this time of year. Probably in bay too. Im sure you could catch them just gotta do sum research. Spring is best there spawning and hungry. Get some catfish trap hoop nets too. I must say that net, longline reel is a work of art by you!! Good luck in the spring trying it.
Was binging through some of your other videos and reloaded your channel page, looks like i was just on time lol. Also, just wanna say, absolutely love seeing your creative process
Great build. You have a fantastic understanding of the tools that you got, how they work and how to make them do the things that you need them to with limited resources. Anyone can solve a problem with time and money but it takes actual talent to do what you do. And with fishing sometimes you just strike out. You'll get them next time
Little tip for winter, if your fishing shallow water use cheese sponge the oil of the cheese will leach better in cold water than standard cut bait, if using the cut bait I saw in your video go deep on bottom of drop offs and if you can find bait fish like small shade or menhaden set right threw them with the cut bait, you also need to be running 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile of line with 200 hooks per line to cover more bottom, just my 3 cents of 20years of commercial cat fishing, good luck brother you will get it
Pretty cool build. I really thought you would catch at least one. Silly fish did not have sense enough to get on the line and they could have been famous being the first fish. Looking forward to seeing the catches in Spring.
Omg you remind me of my grandpa so much. His junk pile was legendary, and had so many contraptions built from random bits. Built a lino scraper from a chunk of hockey stick and a wood planer blade. We still use it!
Have you considered using a ceramic tile cutter for your line leveler mounted above the chain oval? Retain the vertical pin on the chain. Replace the tile cutter holder with a piece of 2 inch square rectangular steel tubing or round. Cut a slot on the bottom slightly longer than your chain pin travel to slip fit the chain vertical pin diameter. Add guide bushings to slip fit the guide bar diameters. Run your line above the guide bushings. GET TO WORK - CATCH THOSE BLUE CATS !
Luke, My careen has been spent building and maintaining sawmills and other processing facilities. What we do looks a lot like what you do, but without the water. I feel for ya pal. been there done that. Keep at it. Pro tip for you though. Freezing things makes them smaller, heating them makes them larger. to make that sprocket slip on to the hydraulic motor shaft you need to heat it. either that, or freeze the shaft. 👍
Awsome! Just a thought. Cut a piece of hose the length to go around each of the stainless disks on each side. Split it and fill with silicone push it all the way around the disk on each side let it cure and your set. No, worry of someone falling into or slipping down on the floor in rough weather sliding into the spool by accident while still spinning. Someone could loose a head that way. LOL Just a though and it won't be rough on the line.
“I’m talking to my …. Real friends” lol thanks for thinking of me as a real friend. 😂 This video was awesome! As an artist I can appreciate the ingenuity of creating this!
Great video. You didn't win this go around, but very good engineering on that spool. Looks like something we would build on the farm down here in south GA. We're always trying to save money. Please keep those videos coming.
Man. Luke. I’m right there with ya on the Pakistani truck channel. It’s amazing how fast those guys can strip a semi truck down to the frame rails , triple up those rails, rivet those rails together , and stick that truck all back together !! Can’t say I like their engine and transmission rebuilds in the dirt. Or the welding of front axles. It whatever.
Luke “The Value Engineer’s Value Engineer”… you could teach a master class 🎉 Value engineering (VE) is a systematic analysis of the functions of various components and materials to lower the cost of goods, products and services with a tolerable loss of performance or functionality. Value, as defined, is the ratio of function to cost.
You need the line leveled driven directly from the line drum the ratio of drum revolutions will be directly accountable to the number of wraps of line around the drun from side to side , so if the drum has 50 wraps and the levelwinder needs 2 revolution of the sprocket to get from one side to the other then the ratio is 25 to 1
You are a genius. You intuitively grasp the physics and engineering involved in taming force to create a desired outcome. You're willing to go back to the drawing board as often as needed because you know there's a solution hiding just around the corner. Paraphrasing Edison, 'I have not failed once. I succeeded in proving the 1000 ways a light bulb will not work, to reveal the way it will work.' Please never self-deprecate. You have a stunning mind and genuine ability. And listen to the guy who tells you to NEVER WELD ZINC COATED METAL - GALVANIZED - without being outdoors with a mask and air tanks for breathing!!!
Luke, your Pakistani Truck comment was telling. I watch that channel as well, and yes you are a contender for a Pakistani Truck episode. Great channel... awesome content...Great ideas and spooky fabrication. great.. With respect.. Joe
Luckster my young friend; you catch Blue Channel Catfish on the Bottom. They prefer muddy bottoms, they like stumps but, I don't recommend them. lol. But, I DO Recommend them for eaten. Filet them up. Dip them in whatever batter you like and Deep Fat Fry Them at 375 degrees. Grab your favorite dip and get down... I'm ready when you're ready!!! GO
People can say what the want but 90 percent of people couldn't do what you just did you are a very smart young man great job
He should have heated the sprocket
Got to meet Luke, his beautiful wife, and his dad this evening. For all of you wondering, yes, they are the most nice, funny, and genuine people out there. It was a pleasure meeting you all! Keep the great content coming!
Did he give you crabs. 😅
You are an old soul, young man. I admire your ingenuity, resourcefulness and especially your drive and attitude. Keep plucking away at it. You have lots to be proud of already.
Great job on the winder. It's good to see young people building from scratch. You'll inspire kids to build and take chances to learn more.
I hope so!
Luke I am raising two boys. I pray that they will work as hard as you do to use resources available and not be wasteful. I don't know where you got your work ethic but you are a joy to watch. May the Lord bless you and your wife.😊
Thank you so much for watching!
Pro tip: If you want a piece of metal (gear) to expand, heat it with a torch. If you want to shrink it --- Freeze it. Great content!

🙄
This is an amateur tip
Always remember that water has the opposite effect though 😂
Yeah he definitely did that backwards lol. Game me a laugh though
You remind me of my friend Pat so very much. I lost him just over twenty years ago because he couldn't get out of his own head. Always remember that the thinking that gets you to solve problems is the same thinking that can get you through life. If it was easy, anyone could do it. Keep up the good work, kid.
You are the absolute KING of backyard engineering!
Love the interaction with your fellow fisherman! just a little ribbing and appreciation!
I truly appreciate You always working outside the box, even when building a box. Inventiveness, rather than spending money, goes a long way and you've got it down to a flawed, yet beautiful, science. Kudos!

I don't think I have ever enjoyed a video more than this one!! Exactly how I go about figuring things out using trash parts!
In my eyes this man is a genius he just builds what ever he wants instead of buying it give props to this guy
Keep that great attitude! The rest is easy brotha! Marvelous how you find everything needed, with NO Depot or Lowe’s trips!
Yo Luke, you truly are a mechanical engineer! I'm 65 and we call all you do, jack of all trades,is a

Keep up the great work Luke
That is some genuine rigging done by a group of people I can’t name any longer.
Contraption looks good! There is literally nothing that could go wrong!! Have a great weekend!
Love it all...the sketchy fabrication, the testing and thought going into it all. Its a hoot watching you.

Outstanding mate, Love your work.
What impresses me is your thinking.
Never stop having a go...
Awesome ingenuity!!!
Luke that build was awesome 😎 I love the ingenuity
The mind is an incredible thing! You, my friend, have a knack for visualizing and creating! Keep up the awesome work 😁
Great video Luke!! I really enjoy watching your creative building skills!
Great idea. Glad it worked for you. Looks like that would be a lot of fun. Thank you.
You're very crafty at building things. Necessity is the mother of invention
Was binging through some of your other videos and reloaded your channel page, looks like i was just on time lol. Also, just wanna say, absolutely love seeing your creative process
thats crazy that it actually worked good, you just need to make it go faster and boom, easy money!
luke just randomly drills holes in his boat lmao love it
As a Pakistani Trucker, I approve of this invention.
Great build. You have a fantastic understanding of the tools that you got, how they work and how to make them do the things that you need them to with limited resources. Anyone can solve a problem with time and money but it takes actual talent to do what you do. And with fishing sometimes you just strike out. You'll get them next time
Thank you! I think I’ll get them in a month or so!
Love all your content Luke!
Thanks for watching!
Great job Luke. Sty safe and warm.
Awesome video Luke. The stuff you come up with is unreal which is what keeps me watching. Keep the awesome content!!

The “line tracker” you built is called a levelwind, you actually did a really good job engineering that.
I don't fish but you had my subscription with that bit of mechanical beauty.
So glad you are not afraid to fail.

I'm glad to see you're still having fun building your toys. Maybe a chafing bar between the chain and the drum for paying out line? Good job 2all 🥶 🐲
😂 “…your a genius” quote is SO true Luke!
You're an inspiration mate.
Love ya work, keep it up 💪👍
“I’m talking to my …. Real friends” lol thanks for thinking of me as a real friend. 😂
This video was awesome! As an artist I can appreciate the ingenuity of creating this!
Started with shorts and started watching your channel. Your editing is very underrated. Curious if you learned in school or if your wife does it.
So, luke, you wanted a right angle gearbox? Look at one from the bottom of a propshaft from an outboard.
I Enjoy seeing what's going on a lil north
You’re such a doer I love that so much about you keep pushing!
Great video. You didn't win this go around, but very good engineering on that spool. Looks like something we would build on the farm down here in south GA. We're always trying to save money. Please keep those videos coming.

Finding it a tough time to make a living selling that same fish on the land too. No one is coming out to buy! Keep at it. Great vid!
the rust progression cracks me up. Every time you went back to the boat, it just seemed rustier bahaha. Gotta love the salt water
Great project!
I really appreciated the project timeline description. I feel that is exactly me. Lol
Brother I Also Love That “Pakistani Truck YT Channel” 😂😂😂 1:30
Keep it up Luke and you'll find them buddy !!
I love long line / trot line fishing.
I run a couple 1000 ft lines in the river when I get the time.
Alright man, you had me at Pakistani Truck! Excellent ingenuity and execution
You are amazing coming up with the solutions to the problems you amaze me LUKE FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!
"Did I get over ya?". Lol!!
Oh yeah that's a win! Crabber engineering at it's finest 💪🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Absolutely love this. Build and build and build. Eventually it will work so good ya make it for sale to others.
Nice job Crab man
Ver well done Luke
Think your fishing thing might switch to junkyard wars x myth-busters youtube channel very soon. Love your channel!
Dude, this guy is honestly a genius
Man, I would love to work on your boat! Love the vids Bro!
Killer content, Luke!
Dang cool homemade longlining setup, I wanna try it for halibut and rockfish here in Alaska
Steam Punk Engineering lol. You’re one heck of a go getter Luke 👍🏼🇺🇸
I hate that I have all of the same junk piles you do, but don't know how to weld! I'm going to fix that this summer!!! Keep Rocking son!
I taught myself it wasn’t that bad!

Man you are so motivating. A just get it done, the rest comes later mindset. I need to go try some stuff.
you are Maryland's Simone Geirtz! people would pay for a head to head competition for sure USA
Maryland crabber, fisherman, and genius! The Magiver of Maryland

I’m feeling the “Can It Catch” Catfish edition 😂 try Frog Legs for your first can it catch catfish edition
Luke, your Pakistani Truck comment was telling. I watch that channel as well, and yes you are a contender for a Pakistani Truck episode. Great channel... awesome content...Great ideas and spooky fabrication. great.. With respect.. Joe
That's why they call it fishing and not catching! Great work finagling that together.
"I might need an actual hammer." Gets the biggest plyers harbor freight had.
Very clever guy, you will succeed in whatever you do, best of luck for the future in whatever you do.Tony in England.
Absolutely genius
thanks for the lesson
