The issues showed at the end, I genuinely thought that I had always just missed my slam placements. I had no idea the removal of his techs caused this. Great video, hopefully they can bring this hero to the state he deserves to be in again
the edge slams are the most infuriating ones because of the time a lot of us spent perfecting the placement of the slam, and now not only do you not get rewarded for that but you get punished. it's insane.
@@eriiicj.1558it’s the same with mercy, they have touched essentially everything about her kit when we were all complaining about dmg boost being op and literally 7 years later they’ve finally nerfed it by a whole… 5%. this is after changing ga’s cooldown to have *2* different timers, giving her 5 shots in a pistol that only gets like 5 kills a game tops, changing her passive, and basically reworking her entire playstyle; way to go balance team

Funny story right, I picked up Doom in Season 3 of Overwatch 2 and I thought that this is just how the hero always was. Still fun, but I felt like I should have a bit more control over some interactions. Imagine me opening this video and seeing just how far Doom could be taken in the past. I'd love to play this version of Doom. 😅
I think you did a good job of expressing both the advantages of techs and the downsides of getting rid of them for people who even didnt intend to use them
After over 1000 hours of dps doomfist transitioning to tank doom was fun in the beta but now after not even 90 hours on tank doom I've stopped playing him for the first time in 7 years. It really hurts seeing your hero get gutted and turned into an easy no skill AND CLUNKY hero. I cannot tell you how many times I've missed my slam because it doesn't stick to the high ground I'm going for
I'm really glad you're still talking about this. Toward the end of OW1 I was starting to learn DPS Doom, and I was having so much fun because of all the crazy movement he could do. When I played the OW2 beta, I was so excited for Tankfist, because of all the fun new movement to learn. But then when the game launched and he had none of it, I lost all motivation to play him, and haven't touched the character since. At this point I'd even be fine if they just outright said "we don't want this character to be able to do things except punch." At least that would be a clear answer why he hasn't ever been fixed.
Wow! What an interesting character with unique and fun movement! I sure hope they don't break his movement techs and then proceed to leave him in a near unplayable state 🙃 Edit: Please show this video to the devs if you haven't already 🙏🗿🙏
Nearly unplayable: proceeds to demolish my backline because doom is basically ball with more solo pick potential. Also GM support players / dps players don't know how to play against doom :/
It feels like the only form of communication we'll get regarding Doomfist is through the hero mastery courses. I'm really curious to see how they think Doom is intended to play
It’s gonna be “leap over wall! Punch!” “There’s an enemy shooting at you! Block!” “Now here’s where this gets tricky… slam to high ground… punch! 😀”. I think the absolute most they’ll add in is the turn punch because it’s been in the game since launch.
This is like removing genji ledge dash, but on massive steroids, and probably only partially intentional. I loved learning that tech and trying to find uses for it in actual games. I was so sad when it was removed. I can only imagine what it feels like to be so reliant on so many fluid techs and then have them taken away.
All the stuff here is intentional. They got rid of it in season 1 because they don’t like the skill expression he has. There’s nothing here that can convince me otherwise
highly doubt it was intentional. watch the video before commenting that. dooms techs unintentionally broke in season 1 and when they fixed it they didnt fix it properly and left it in a broken state
It seems intentional. It seems as if doomfist is extremely dumbed down. He has been buggy af in ow1, but at least he was complex and fun. Now he is just a crippled hero with all moves as much „standardized“ as possible.
@@GetQuakedOn It was certainly intentional. What we need to understand here is that ow1 became ow2 so that they could cater to a wider range audience, which ultimately means younger folks. With younger folks you can't have a complex game, and this can pretty much be seen in all other champs where everything got dumbed down. So honestly, I don't believe they will ever address doom at this point.
@@GetQuakedOn Patch notes are vague on purpose doom was pretty good during the beta and they probably didn't see it as a balance change since it's for all purposes not intended
Quaked: Tells Blizzard how to fix doom while simultaneously not making him op with a very high skill ceiling/learning curve, helping the doom community and keeping the player base while also introducing him to new players Blizzard: Wait whos doomfist again?
The devs don't understand Doomfist and it shows. They got rid of those movements not knowing how clunky it makes the character. They thought they were fixing "bugs" but really they got rid of any kind of skill expression he had.
I don’t really feel like they care if it’s open or not they took out the ability for hanzo to wall climb with a charged arrow even though nobody really did that effectively whatsoever I can count on one hand how many times I’ve actually consistently hit somebody whilst using that ability it was just a good quality of life to make him feel seamless And on top of that nobody even really knew it existed in the first place, but they think it’s toxic for the game. If you ask me, Genji‘s ability to reflect into an instant Dash without any pause, and or frame in between is a lot more cheese than the ability for hanzo to climb a fucking wall with an arrow already knocked, but whatever
Back when Doomfist was first teased, I envisioned him as a momentum based tank that took reduced damage so long as he was constantly on the move, like passive damage reduction or a shield that keeps recharging the more he moves. Just endlessly bouncing around and punching people while building up shield charge. He stops or gets stunned, he loses that bonus. That's kind of what ended up happening with Hammond. Suggested fix: Doomfist's Slam now executes automatically whenever he is at a high enough elevation to use it. No need for a cooldown. He just uses it automatically if he's high enough. Hammond has this kind of functionality so we know they can do it. Also, change his slam from a sweep to a spherical AoE that strikes all in its area regardless of the terrain around it. That frees the ability up from any kind of terrain condition. His jump ability is now just a straight jump boost that guarantees he gains enough elevation to slam.
this is even insightful to those of us that don’t even play Doom. I didn’t know that his movements were this complex. And I had no idea this has been a thing for 6 seasons now. I hope the devs haven’t closed themselves off to your feedback.
I'm new to playing doom, but this video answered some of my questions. I tried to cancel my slam server times and thought I was doing something wrong, I see why now. I also was trying to practice some of the tecs like stair / turn slams from one of your older videos, but I see why it wasn't possible.
Duuude all of those from 16:40 where you barely miss the edge, I'm not a main or good doomfist but i have suffered with those all the time, i thought it was me but seeing you, who are godlike with doomfist, have problems with that too, man... Literally just fixing him would make him such a good character :c
this made me wanna cry because beta doom was the most fun and smooth he’s ever been and being reminded of that hurts so bad thank you for making his video ur an amazing creator i hope the devs actually fix him :(
Another huge thing that I don't hear many people talk about is how these techs not only allowed experienced Doom players push his skill ceiling to the limit but they ALSO helped non experienced players as well. Biggest example imo is edge slam: Even if you don't know how any of the techs worked, this quality of life mechanic would make slamming onto edges feel WAY smoother for you. All of my friends who played Doom in beta (who know absolutely nothing about doom's techs and play him very infrequently) all mentioned how he feels clunky now in comparison to then. These techs help everyone, there is literally no reason for them to not be in the game. End of story.
Exactly it doesn't just force higher skill doom players to needlessly work around the techs being removed. It makes new players that want to try doom just feel like hes unplayable and like they just cant ever figure out how to use his movement abilities correctly.
I think bhop slam would also be a big thing for new and old players you can bhop to fake out a jump or get that extra distance to hit someone overall his techs just looked and felt intuitive but they took it all away for some reason.
The reason why doomfist is so much fun and special in the first place for me atleast is because you had so much micro-control over his movement and you were able to pull off very intricate plays because of this, right now though he feels like a worse version of Winston
Exactly also the fact that when Doomfist was first designed in Ow1 he was said to be like a fighting game character in a fps game but his abilities and his long cooldowns in Ow2 really goes against that old, really cool concept
I never understood why the slam AoE goes horizontally (doesn't connect with any ground within range), while it clearly connects too easily with random furniture but never with high-ground floors.
So the main reason I suck at Doom (besides not playing him much) is because of bugs? The main culprit for me being the turn slams (not latching onto geometry); I thought I just wasnt using his movement right but it turns out it's because of a bug-that should not be in the game and it encourages me to not play Doom (and therefore continue to not be good at him)
You are a very dedicated and good explainer, player and streamer, I respect this in you. I started playing the day of release of ow2 and almost never played doomfist until season 3 or 4 because of how difficult he is, I really enjoyed him and learned him better (from you) in season 5, so I never knew how better he was in the past, seeing this video teached me a lot especially that all the pain points in his slam weren't always there and shouldn't be. This video is helpful but also upsetting and painful which is the point of it. Thank you!
I watched you video with Doom techs on Karq channel and I practice them a lot in the Beta to keep being a Doom main. Then season 1 came and I wasn't able to do half of what I practiced. Just felt so bad and unrewarding.
I wonder if the reason why they haven't tried to fix his techs and movement quirks is because they don't know why they happened in the first place. They did update the engine from OW1 to OW2, so there was probably quite alot of under the hood stuff that allowed for all the fun and high knowledge techs that he had in the Beta. Now that they "patched" it, they don't know how to reenable it in a way that is "official" and not a quirk of the game engine. Its definitely something they should work on however, as its always a pleasure watching high level Dooms even today, but with how Blizzard has been lately, I wouldn't bet on it. Did they ever respond to your suggestions?
can't answer if they responded or not but i def reported it. my guess is that they arent fully aware of the actual issues and dont think its a priority for doomfist atm when i feel like it is. hopefully this video wil lchange their mind on it
i hate playing against dooms and never find myself playing him on my tank queues but i’ve always loved overwatch’s movement heroes for what they were, and for what players can do with them. any time movement techs are bugged out/intentionally patched it diminishes overwatch’s identity a bit. i still mourn genji’s edge dash tech. mercy GA (especially any slingshot tech) feels clunkier and stiffer than ever to play after they messed with her movement so much in earlier seasons and now actively punishes tech usage. kiriko’s tp is still a buggy mess. lucio’s wallride attachment on newer maps is a nightmare. i personally never play doom unless i’m trolling in arcade, so when i heard that his techs were broken i figured it was just like, a single slam tech. i now realize it bleeds into every movement tech and expression of skill. this video was super informative. i feel so bad for doom mains. great video, thank you! hoping his movement gets fixed soon.
So i have a question, why do I sometimes try to go for a slam cancel into an empowered punch (to position myself for the punch while charging), but the empowered punch gets cancelled on its own? It only happens if I do it really fast, I feel like I have to force myself to give a split second before starting to charge punch Edit: The punch goes on cooldown AND I lose the empowerment
im guessing for some reason theres a small delay on the slam going through, so you can press slam, then punch quickly but the punch you press after slam somehow goes through before the slam does. just blizzard things i guess lol
What makes Doom special to me personally, is that he was my first movement character. I hadn't come from any movement fps before that. I had come from Siege or COD and all that. It was Overwatch that made me love movement. So doom was my very first and it was devastating when i first saw your video pop up months ago in my recommended saying the techs were gone. At that point in time I realized I hadn't learned to appreciate Doom as he was and took him for granted. And then before I knew it. Overwatch shut down. And I knew then and there I experienced something very special. And now even If i took him for granted then I will continue to appreciate what I had. We must all play a part in the restoration. We must all use our voices. Cheers friends.
Quake I only play doom have been since Overwatch 2 can’t out I have 700 hrs on him and these bugs are so annoying when I started playing him in the beta I had never played I thought he was really fun and had great movement that’s what I like in chapters but as the seasons went on doom felt clunky and techs I never knew of fucked me over I now do a lot of techs and do more in depth stuff but it’s hard when they can’t fix a hero and just leave him and to casuals who aren’t happy they don’t have empowered puch every time to win a fight. Good video bro I hope they fix him 😢
Thank you for opening my eyes to the pre-era of the Doomfist world, as an avid, but not maining, Doomfist player and starter of OW2, I always felt off about his movement and inconsistencies, but thought of it as "it's just how his character was built upon." Then I'd slowly stumble between OW1 clips of doom and think "Why is this movement so much more satisfying" and excused as it's because he's a tank now and had major changes. But with now seeing beta clips of OW2 as a tankfist, this world of possibilities being locked to newer players like me and older players like you, it feels like a Doomfist punch by the devs, and I don't mean an OW2-type punch. I hope, but don't believe, they'll revert this change and bring peace to the Doom community from unwanted change that should never have existed, and thank you Get Quaked On for such a valuable gem of a video. Instant sub, like, and comment.
They did this because they were worried new players wouldnt be able to handle all the doom mains. When doom came out in OW1 they constantly worked on him because of the one shots and disruption. Now as a tank, if they kept him as fluid and dare I say easier to play, new players would've quit. I know my friends coming over from COD could barely handle a DPS Lucio jumping around. Balance is for gold and below never for the top level of play. I miss when games had a "get good" mentality. This feels like they handicap people who want to show how much better they are.
"They did this because they were worried new players wouldnt be able to handle all the doom mains." that makes no sense "When doom came out in OW1 they constantly worked on him because of the one shots and disruption" no they didnt, his ass was ignored for a very long time "Now as a tank, if they kept him as fluid and dare I say easier to play, new players would've quit" doomfist was fluid and now clunky, he has a higher skill floor than DPS doomfist so hes not easier to play. his skill ceiling is lower than DPS dooms. new players would not quit because of a high skill hero, they would probably quit because of how this game makes the easy heroes OP and not the hard heroes. " I know my friends coming over from COD could barely handle a DPS Lucio jumping around." yeah OW is a fast paced game, cod is not face paced. "Balance is for gold and below never for the top level of play." thats the issue with OW
@@GetQuakedOn wow my memory is screwed. Just looked up the OW1 patch history for Doomfist. thanks for correcting me. Keep fighting the good fight for actual skilled players.
I want to be a doom main, but every time I start getting into the hero i then find out another reason not to learn his tech. It’s more inconsistent. I’d say blizzard didn’t do this on purpose, but they should revert the change if they see that the character is affected this badly.
I just wanna pay my respects here, since I love doom, you are basically our saviour with this video and all the other efforts u've done, good job bro, thanks! LIKE THIS VID SO BLIZZARD CAN SEE IT
Amen bro, we doomfist mains need these techs back and if anything it might actually make the hero slightly viable while improving the quality of the game by smoothing him out.
11:26 Out of everything, this was the final nail in the coffin for me. I've gone back to ball so I can at least have some tech expression, but at this point I'm afraid Blizard will just delete all his techs too just so they can say they "fixed" something. Rip dps doom, rip tank doom.
They might be doing it on purpose in fear that those mechanics will be abused or like in OW1 that's why we will only see small buffs rather than "bug" fixes
so I started playing this game on march, and I mained doomfist. Now I get why sometimes I felt like it wasn't everytime my fault to get some placements for my slams wrong
4:00 im gonna be honest here, from the enemy point of view that looks extremly random and erratic movment, i dont mind that not being in the game, hope the hero gets more fluid tho
8:16 there is no way that should be in the game, something i really like about ow is that you can predict the enemy, if heroes can break how abilities work thats just horrible
I think a lit can be done to improve the hero, like being able to cancel slam in a short window of time but most of this are techs that make a hero unpredictable so is unfun to play against him
@diegocorvalan5435 no, I just think the argument of "I don't like being outplayed by skill" is bad. You're saying you dislike unpredictable movements, which honestly is even more sad considering it seems like you want to have your opponents feed your brains out...
They could just make it so when u crouch and use slam u hug the ground no matter how steep the floor below u is, that would make it perfectly consistent and more usable. Also I think the big problem with dooms techs is that the devs have no Idea how they work exactly (not how u reproduce them in the game, but why they even happen in the first place), the only thing they can do and fix is if the player does that, that happens. Dooms techs are unfortunately almoest allways just messing with the physics of the game, thats also the reason why a fix of one bug can lead to all techs not working anymore. So they would have to give the game exact instructions about what to do if a player does some things in some order, making the character way too complicated bc all of these tech would be official then.
I believe the changes to have been somewhat intentional by the devs as many players would find playing against that kind of mobility you could get with them very frustrating.
I play doom as a main and can say I can see how things, particularly turn slams feel better now as someone playing against doom. Slam is a leap ability not a slide ability, I’d say it’s working as intended and makes it fairer for others playing against doom.
It doesn’t even work as a leap ability. Did you watch the last minute of the video and see how many times he got fucked over bc of slam being clunky and buggy?
@@gabrielnieves4103 I saw it and what I saw was a person failing to execute a move because he didn’t take into account it’s limitations. I get that it used to work a different way, but it’s not bugged it just works different to how he wants it to.
Hard agree. Thanks for making this, I hope the devs are able to bring back his techs and skill ceiling. I like how you said it's not even about balance, like that's a separate thing, this is genuinely about his fun factor and fluidity
I think its also sad they buff doom in the aspects that we don't care about, sure the stuck projectiles thing is nice and all but I don't care how strong he is, I want the fun doom back.
I had only recently gotten into overwatch when OW2 came out and ball and doom were 2 of my favorite heroes at the time because I felt that there was so much possibility for expression in their movement, it felt like I could do something unique and challenging that other heroes just couldn't offer. I'm still a ball main but I dropped doom pretty quickly after I'd heard that they changed his kit. I didn't even realize just how much I was missing out on with all of the cool crouch slam tech, turning around corners and whatnot that you showed off in the video. I'm so sorry for you, and all of the other doom mains who've had their hero gutted like this. I can never complain about buggy ball movement and quirks again after seeing just how bad you guys have it. My heart goes out to you all. Hope Blizzard hears you and compensates somehow
1:23 Still watching the video but writing this in case I forget, am I mistaken or does something similar happen to winston too? I'll jump and sometimes become like... magnetized to the ground if I go over a ledge or something. Like I shouldn't be landing but it just pulls me down. It happens all the time
I hope this video blows up. I haven’t played a full season since season 2. I really miss doom’s unique gameplay that feels like a shell of itself today
4:35 I prefer having to be further down an incline tbh, at least in the case of those stairs. If I'm wanting to do a regular slam, it would feel clunky if it forced me to do a stair slam on a very tiny incline imo.
I never played doom in the beta, but as you said encountering the need for techs is basically natural. So many times I just went "why can't I do this? I wonder if I can actually do it" only to find out it was a removed tech lol
I thought I was missing my slams for some reason or miscalculation. I had no idea they had removed so many techniques. Now I understand why I didn't feel comfortable using doom recently. Thanks Quaked for show us this. I hope they fix doom :(
I genuinely had so much fun with doom in the beta even though his abilities changed it still felt like overwatch 1 doomfist movement now he just feel like hes made backwards progress since the beta
Old turn slam feels like an unintended mechanic (Like Genjis old ledge boost). He's already so insanely mobile, why should he be able to come out of nowhere around the corner with next to 0 time to react?
non doom players will see this all as mild inconveniences but we play doom BECAUSE of his movement and when these techs dont work it reduces his skill ceiling and because it literally doesnt allow for micro-movement that the community can improve upon with time
As an OW2 player whos mained doom since season 2 I had no idea I was missing out on this much of my most played character. Always thought it was a miss-play when my slam didn't connect with edges properly.
The edge slam thing is almost certainly them fixing the old OW1 thing where Doomfist could target higher edges with his slam and move upwards. Now that it isn't targeting I think they removed that but it also meant he can't edge slam because it requires him to go up somewhat, which they removed.
I hope and hope and hope that the devs one day give this character a fraction of the love and attention they give literally any other hero on the roster. Bringing his techs back would be incredible, but at this point, I doubt they'll even try and fix his terrible bugs. Thank you for making this video. The fact that his techs (and lack thereof) affect his normal gameplay so extensively, even for those who don't use techs, is something I never truly appreciated the full weight of until now. Thank you Quake 👊
Doom needs a buff where his slam AOE is bigger or if you land on something and an enemy is within range (like when you landed on the box and soldier was right there) the slam should “travel?” down the box hitting said target. It’s kinda hard to explain but a simpler solution would to just make the AOE bigger
oh my god, so THIS is why something felt off when I play with doomfist. I don't know if devs intentionally changed it to what it is now but man, does it ever feel so clunky, and as exactly shown in this video, I didn't feel in control with him. how did you waited this long to make a video about it dude XD like holy hell.
Just to play devil's advocate. Some of this stuff seems like it was unintentional. Like stair slam and stuff doesn't seem right. You can't really blame the devs for wanting to fix mechanics that they know are not working properly. That being said I definitely support fixing Doom tech. Sometimes unintended mechanics are better than what was intended.
stair slam is a tech that existed in ow1. they are okay with the techs. his techs broke unintentionally due to a specific bug fix on his slam. they brought his techs back but not properly which left him in a broken state. even if you aren't utilizing those techs you are heavily affected by the issues the techs provide.
his techs are still broken as of 12/13/2024.
14 seasons of dooms movement being broken. unreal.
Sir, they didn't bring uppercut back and killed the hero skill ceiling, what should we do
i just started getting into doom just to realize he’s more broken than i thought
The issues showed at the end, I genuinely thought that I had always just missed my slam placements. I had no idea the removal of his techs caused this. Great video, hopefully they can bring this hero to the state he deserves to be in again
yeah same here
Same I always thought it was a skill issue.
the edge slams are the most infuriating ones because of the time a lot of us spent perfecting the placement of the slam, and now not only do you not get rewarded for that but you get punished. it's insane.
Seriously. I barely started picking up dps doom before ow2, but felt like a loser missing all my abilities in ow2. Not a fun time to be learning doom
Holy same I though I was just terrible at slamming on edges 😭
Let’s just be honest: The devs probably had no idea Doomfist could be played this way. I’m willing to bet these techs weren’t intentional at all.
Honestly to the devs most of these "techs" are just bugs. Don't see why they'd care when to them they just fix unintended movement.

@@GetQuakedOn finished watching yeah you’re right actually they really have no idea about any of this probably
@@GetQuakedOn Patch notes are vague on purpose doom was pretty good during the beta and they probably didn't see it as a balance change since it's for all purposes not intended
Quaked: Tells Blizzard how to fix doom while simultaneously not making him op with a very high skill ceiling/learning curve, helping the doom community and keeping the player base while also introducing him to new players
Blizzard: Wait whos doomfist again?
Buy more skin btw
ugh doom looks so fun in the beta but now hes... the best word is as you said... clunky
The devs don't understand Doomfist and it shows. They got rid of those movements not knowing how clunky it makes the character. They thought they were fixing "bugs" but really they got rid of any kind of skill expression he had.
Ive been running doom non stop and really learning him. The high ground misses kill me. Very interesting to see all the cool movement im missing 😅
I'm in the same boat but it kinda hurts seeing what we missed out on though
@@williamjackson5598hopefully they fix it and we can unlock the full power
"Stop having fun!" -Blizzard
Or it's usually this:
"99 bugs in the code, 99 bugs in the code! Take one down, patch it around. 127 bugs in the code."
I hope the devs haven’t closed themselves off to your feedback.
what i hate about playing doomfist is my slams are always messed up they need to give that hop back
I'm new to playing doom, but this video answered some of my questions. I tried to cancel my slam server times and thought I was doing something wrong, I see why now.
I also was trying to practice some of the tecs like stair / turn slams from one of your older videos, but I see why it wasn't possible.
“Clunkfist isn’t real, he can’t hurt you”
Clunkfist: “only through conflict, will we evolve”
clunkflict
The main culprit for me being the turn slams (not latching onto geometry); I thought I just wasnt using his movement right but it turns out it's because of a bug-that should not be in the game and it encourages me to not play Doom (and therefore continue to not be good at him)
WE GOT SLAM ON 6 THO A WIN IS A WIN 🔥🔥🔥🗣🗣💯💯🗣❗❗❗🗣🔥🔥
Heh, almost as effective as Venom trap being on a 6 sec cooldown
As a new doom main, I genuinely didn't know all of this even existed. Rly depressed on what I missed out on Sadge
same :( bring it back so i can learn LOL
As many insta kill ults as their are. It sucks that his ult does basically no damage outside of a direct hit
Watching those clips at the end hurt my soul
You are a very dedicated and good explainer, player and streamer, I respect this in you.
I started playing the day of release of ow2 and almost never played doomfist until season 3 or 4 because of how difficult he is, I really enjoyed him and learned him better (from you) in season 5, so I never knew how better he was in the past, seeing this video teached me a lot especially that all the pain points in his slam weren't always there and shouldn't be.
This video is helpful but also upsetting and painful which is the point of it.
Thank you!
The amount of times I’ve missed the ledge trying to get a widow is insane.
you’ve done such a good job articulating this i wish the devs could use this as a starting guide to start fixing the root issues ruining his techs
That last minute of gameplay is about the most unsatisfying thing I have watched all year
I watched you video with Doom techs on Karq channel and I practice them a lot in the Beta to keep being a Doom main. Then season 1 came and I wasn't able to do half of what I practiced. Just felt so bad and unrewarding.
Same
His movement felt so fluid and satisfying.
Did they ever respond to your suggestions?
can't answer if they responded or not but i def reported it. my guess is that they arent fully aware of the actual issues and dont think its a priority for doomfist atm when i feel like it is. hopefully this video wil lchange their mind on it
Not posible, because Iliana can do the same tech EVEN THE BHOP!!!!
They just don't want doom to be good.
Its so sad seeing GetQuakedOn trying to make Doom a decent character without bugs/glitches but Bliazzrd straight up ignores it
i hate playing against dooms and never find myself playing him on my tank queues but i’ve always loved overwatch’s movement heroes for what they were, and for what players can do with them. any time movement techs are bugged out/intentionally patched it diminishes overwatch’s identity a bit. i still mourn genji’s edge dash tech. mercy GA (especially any slingshot tech) feels clunkier and stiffer than ever to play after they messed with her movement so much in earlier seasons and now actively punishes tech usage. kiriko’s tp is still a buggy mess. lucio’s wallride attachment on newer maps is a nightmare.
i personally never play doom unless i’m trolling in arcade, so when i heard that his techs were broken i figured it was just like, a single slam tech. i now realize it bleeds into every movement tech and expression of skill. this video was super informative. i feel so bad for doom mains.
great video, thank you! hoping his movement gets fixed soon.
So i have a question, why do I sometimes try to go for a slam cancel into an empowered punch (to position myself for the punch while charging), but the empowered punch gets cancelled on its own? It only happens if I do it really fast, I feel like I have to force myself to give a split second before starting to charge punch
Edit: The punch goes on cooldown AND I lose the empowerment
It's the exact reason you just said you did it too fast
im guessing for some reason theres a small delay on the slam going through, so you can press slam, then punch quickly but the punch you press after slam somehow goes through before the slam does. just blizzard things i guess lol
I would be surprised if there were any devs who would care to watch this all and deal with it. I have no faith in them.
I don't play doomfist but loved the detailed explanations. I like to stay informed on certain heroes peculiarities from people who play them the most.
"They did this because they were worried new players wouldnt be able to handle all the doom mains."
that makes no sense
"When doom came out in OW1 they constantly worked on him because of the one shots and disruption"
no they didnt, his ass was ignored for a very long time
"Now as a tank, if they kept him as fluid and dare I say easier to play, new players would've quit"
doomfist was fluid and now clunky, he has a higher skill floor than DPS doomfist so hes not easier to play. his skill ceiling is lower than DPS dooms. new players would not quit because of a high skill hero, they would probably quit because of how this game makes the easy heroes OP and not the hard heroes.
" I know my friends coming over from COD could barely handle a DPS Lucio jumping around."
yeah OW is a fast paced game, cod is not face paced.
"Balance is for gold and below never for the top level of play."
thats the issue with OW
Blizzard most likely has seen every video from getquakedon, they just don't care about doomfist anymore, and they'll buff cas instead.
BLIZZARD WANTED DOOM TO BE SHIT.
this is why they removed it.
11:26 Out of everything, this was the final nail in the coffin for me. I've gone back to ball so I can at least have some tech expression, but at this point I'm afraid Blizard will just delete all his techs too just so they can say they "fixed" something. Rip dps doom, rip tank doom.
I don't even play Doom but the fluidity of Beta Doom looks night and day compared to Live, my god
They might be doing it on purpose in fear that those mechanics will be abused or like in OW1 that's why we will only see small buffs rather than "bug" fixes
My man wrote an entire thesis on doom
so I started playing this game on march, and I mained doomfist.
I think a lit can be done to improve the hero, like being able to cancel slam in a short window of time but most of this are techs that make a hero unpredictable so is unfun to play against him
Wrong, don't care what you say.
@@SpiritedFalcon You truly want the doom community to be like the mercy community, sad
I believe the changes to have been somewhat intentional by the devs as many players would find playing against that kind of mobility you could get with them very frustrating.
one must imagine doomfist happy
I think its also sad they buff doom in the aspects that we don't care about, sure the stuck projectiles thing is nice and all but I don't care how strong he is, I want the fun doom back.
i may not be a doom player (and can often find enemy doomfists annoying) but holy shit blizzard fucked him over, my condolences to doom players
Ball also got hit by some stealth nerfs, it's very likely the same bugs that allowed doom as well as ball that they patched. I hate it.
I wonder if I can actually do it" only to find out it was a removed tech lol
holy doom slam was even better in the beta than i remembered, it hurts to look back on it i loved this hero so much man..
Keep up the great videos! I expect a new one with the same thumbnail and title next doom patch.
Old turn slam feels like an unintended mechanic (Like Genjis old ledge boost). He's already so insanely mobile, why should he be able to come out of nowhere around the corner with next to 0 time to react?
I feel like in Doom's case it's because unless you're super close you won't do a lot of DPS unless you land a bunch of headshots
whats different if i slam up in the air and land at the same corner with "0 time to react"
Blizz never liked "hard to master bonus tech"@@GetQuakedOn
non doom players will see this all as mild inconveniences but we play doom BECAUSE of his movement and when these techs dont work it reduces his skill ceiling and because it literally doesnt allow for micro-movement that the community can improve upon with time
They don't understand how to balance the hero and frankly they don't really care anymore. Our voices literally just get sent to the trash.
As an OW2 player whos mained doom since season 2 I had no idea I was missing out on this much of my most played character. Always thought it was a miss-play when my slam didn't connect with edges properly.
it genuinely amazes me how they took a character with so much depth and fluidity and did this to him 😭
At least he wasn’t nerfed like Reinhardt.
@@scumknight6074at least Reinhardt got a lot more quality of life changes from Ow1 to Ow2 compared to Doom
to be honest i dont like playing against doom as a widow main but seeing the beta movement brings back feeling of the ols flashy rollouts
The edge slam thing is almost certainly them fixing the old OW1 thing where Doomfist could target higher edges with his slam and move upwards. Now that it isn't targeting I think they removed that but it also meant he can't edge slam because it requires him to go up somewhat, which they removed.
I didn't know about these Doomfist techs until now, but now I need them.
those last few clips made my toes wiggle out of annoyance
I hope and hope and hope that the devs one day give this character a fraction of the love and attention they give literally any other hero on the roster. Bringing his techs back would be incredible, but at this point, I doubt they'll even try and fix his terrible bugs.
Thank you for making this video. The fact that his techs (and lack thereof) affect his normal gameplay so extensively, even for those who don't use techs, is something I never truly appreciated the full weight of until now. Thank you Quake 👊
Why is it that when I punch I phase through the entire team and get flames by my team :(
5v5 was a mistake along with doom being a tank was a mistake.
Doom needs a buff where his slam AOE is bigger or if you land on something and an enemy is within range (like when you landed on the box and soldier was right there) the slam should “travel?” down the box hitting said target. It’s kinda hard to explain but a simpler solution would to just make the AOE bigger
Watching the Ana clip is a prime example of what I’m talking about. The slam AOE reaches her but since you’re not on the same level it doesn’t travel.
Thanks for explaining this. I'm a gold doomfist and i always hate slamming into edges
So many times during this video, I kept saying "OH YEAAAAHHHH! I forgot you could do that!"
I'm dusting off the 900 page OW1 doom bug list like an old yearbook today. I miss you, old friend.
Those clips at the end were PAINFUL.
The last minutes gotta be one of the most frustating video ever
oh my god, so THIS is why something felt off when I play with doomfist. I don't know if devs intentionally changed it to what it is now but man, does it ever feel so clunky, and as exactly shown in this video, I didn't feel in control with him. how did you waited this long to make a video about it dude XD like holy hell.
i really hope dey will see your video, you exsplained everything perfect and i 100% agree with you!
