Tony's sound was important to that iconic album. I had lunch with Cozy Powell and Tony's replacement, David Stone in 1978. Would be interesting to keep going after these ex-Rainbow musicians to get the full story of this time period. thanks Phil, Pat
I was never into Rainbow at the time. I discovered his music by accidently buying Pink World on a record sale in 85 or 86. Grabbed it just from looking at that cool gatefold cover. Anyway, this have been one of the highlights of all interviews I have seen you do. What a lovely guy! I love the fact he has managed to have such a long and prosperous career without sucking up to record companies. Love his lyrics!
Great to see Tony hear about his career after Rainbow and what he's been doing since then with his recording projects and this is really great interview thanks Phil.🎶🎤🎸🎸🎹🥁🎶
A very enjoyable interview. I hope I get to see Tony Carey live on stage in the U.K. Whether it is a stripped back Piano,Guitar,Vocals and stories, I would be hanging on every note and every word!
Tony's intro for Lady of the Lake and Stargazer was edited out, but they wrote a farewell song for him. 1978. LA Connection ... "Carey home my broken bones and lay me down to rest"
I saw Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow in July '76 with Cozy Powell and Ronnie James Dio. What an awesome show! Rainbow actually opened for Jethro Tull. Those days are gone.
When I was 12 years old, I only had 3 records on vinyl: AC/DC "For Those About To Rock We Salute You", Iron Maiden "Killers" and Tony Carey "Some Tough City".
Saw one gig during Rainbow's first US tour, Detroit 1975. The thing that really stuck with me was Tony's intro to "Stargazer". There were "monster" reverb crashes that were so loud, I thought the venue was going to collapse! Love the first touring Rainbow (Tony & Jimmy), it's the only Rainbow I listen to, the rest is pop bullshit!
Legend 🌈🎸
Hope to see you soon again.
Cheers from Norway 🇳🇴
That was really awesome, been a huge fan of Mr. Carey for a long time. Many thanks for an amazing interview!
Thank you 🙏

9:00 Kill the king was written after Rising was finished. Tarot Woman didn't work live, so Ritchie came up with Kill the King.

Great guy. Always a fascinating interview.
My absolute favourite artist. Have the most of his albums. "Blue highway" is one of the best songs ever.
