That is a sweet guitar. It is stunning in sound and sight. You let the wood do the talking, and the singing. Bravo! The trees that provided the wood for that guitar died and went to heaven!
I would be EXTREMELY interested in what a basic 12 fret 'O' style parlor (mahogany/spruce would run me out of your shop! I'm a restoration luthier in Colorado, and you sir are an ARTISAN! I will reach out via your site! - Charles 🙏
That's the nicest guitar I've ever seen. As an amateur builder I'm envious of the wood selection. As a life long player, it's difficult to find one so balanced and beautiful sounding. Fantastic work.
Thanks Kevin! We really appreciate hearing from other builders. We’ve always been big believers in Sitka and ebony can provide some balance as well. Thanks for checking us out.
Wow!!! Absolutely stunningly beautiful for the eyes and ears! As an amateur builder and more amateur player I can only hope to aspire on both accounts. Gorgeous guitar and fine playing.
It’s absolutely a work of art! And it sounds bigger than it is to be sure! To my ear it sound a size or two bigger than it’s body size. So balanced and beautiful. If I had the means I wa Ould own it just for the astounding looks, don’t know that I could play it for fear of damaging it.
The 00 is my favorite guitar size for its special tone and comfort to play. The best guitar that I have owned in the last 50 plus years was a 1965 Martin 00-21NY. No frills like a pick guard or fret markers, just tone for days. But this guitar right here takes that to another level. My great admiration.
Simply amazing. Rich sound over YT and truly a work of art. I truly love these small bodies even for a flatpick. And Stephen, you are a great player! I hope you get as much time to play as you do to build. You clearly enjoy it!
Wow is that ever gorgeous! And it sounds just luscious. I can’t believe how many tones are coming out of that guitar. It’s a masterpiece, congratulations! Is there a showroom in Nacogdoches or are these more like custom one-off builds?
Thanks for the very kind words! Most of what we build (including this one) are commissioned custom builds. However, we do have a few guitars on hand at our shop at any time for purchase. While it’s not a showroom, our shop is open on weekday afternoons. If you’re ever in the area, we would love for you to come by.
Sounds pretty large, for a small guitar. It will get even smoother and more buttery. Your playing gives a perfect platform, to hear the capabilities of that beautiful guitar.
@@stephenkinnairdguitars Amazing craftsmanship, Stephen. The ebony is stunning! I’ve used “oddball” ebony fingerboards since attending Sergei de Jonge’s school in 2012, and love the character. I’m just floored by that back! Thanks for the response. (new subscriber, too!) Cheers Ha! Had to come back with a quick edit after scanning your content - we share a distinct fondness for 00 guitars!
Thanks for the follow! Yeah, that is an exceptional piece of African ebony with all the color. We purchased that a while back and just now got to use it. Bob Taylor with a large wood outfit from Europe called Madinter now have their own ebony mill in West Africa that is bringing a lot more of this variegated ebony to the US. It’s being sold under the trade name Crelicam. I’m happy you found us.
Sounds and looks exquisite, gentlemen! Also, that ebony collection behind Steve is looking very nice. I see lots of killer ebony Kinnairds in the future!
Big full sound from a small guitar! Doesn't sound like a parlor. Beautiful wood combination. The grain on both the Sitka and the Ebony is outrageous. Nice playing too!
Wow. That guitar is a wonder both to look at 😃and to hear😄. You said it still sounds a bit "green" to you! Coulda fooled me, it already sounds so mature to my (inexpert) ears.
Haha thanks! It really was strung up less than two days earlier but we were under a delivery deadline. 😅 We really appreciate the kind words. Don’t be a stranger.
Nice panelling in your studio there, Steve. That's a very sweet and clean sounding guitar - beautiful too. That's not all ebony in the background, is it?
That's a beautiful guitar, looks great, and sounds very nice. And I had to look in the comments because I was pretty sure I was hearing "The Love of God" song being played!
Good morning from Taiwan! Stephen, this is one of the coolest guitar I have ever seen and you played it well, both the Bearclaw Spruce and African Ebony are shining!
Appreciate it Walter. Probably not huge differences among most spruces because of the smaller body size. But lighter tops like cedar and redwood would probably lose some crispness.
The main difference is the amount of sound that is kicked up into the player’s face. It gives a much fuller experience to the player in terms of the volume and nuance that they hear from the instrument. Many players comment they they get more bass though we believe the effect is more overall volume. The change in tone out in front of the instrument is minimal. Most of our customers play for themselves primarily, we have made it a standard feature on our guitars.
Stephen that’s beautiful instrument. The bear claw markings on the top are insanely beautiful. I was so desperate to buy into a USA made Epiphone Texan or Gibson the other day and it’s given me a new found appreciation for my Twelve fret Brook Taw 000 for the way the trebles sounds so juicy compared to those factory made dreadnoughts that were so underwhelming in particular on the fretboards
We’re glad we could save you some money. 😂 But, you’re right that 12 fretters have a sweetness to them particularly in the trebles. Thanks for watching our videos, and one day we hope to cure your guitar desperation. 😉
A YT video is about as close as i should be left near a guitar of that Caliber. Just built and already sounding like a grandmothers wisdom. ,What will it be like in 20 years? . Alot of love went into that build and one can hear it,
🤩 Wow! That is one of the finest compliments we have ever received. We might have to put that in our marketing. Thanks for such high praise! Please stop by anytime.
You well deserve it. Ireland, where I live is a bit green alot green but not that guitar. However I should Imagine that in light of the fact that you created it you know way better than I. An artist that can sell his work is indeed a fortunate person. Love from paddyland.
Thanks John. Yes, this guitar was commissioned and the owner has been enjoying it for a while. It’s price tag was around $8500. Thanks for listening. 😃
Sure. People have built instruments out of all kinds of materials. Carbon fiber is the most common non-wood substitute. Of course they don’t sound quite like wood either.
Thanks for the inquiry. This guitar was special ordered by our customer, but our prices start at $6500. Additional upgrades can be added on from there.
