    I have lived in Hillsboro for just under 20 years. A mile or so south of Orenco. It is more or less suburbia USA. Accept that, and you will be happy. We just happen to be able to see the magnificent Mt. Hood off in the distance, and can get to one of the most beautiful coast lines in the word, in about an hour.
    I have great neighbors, live close to two very nice parks, one just at the end of the block. Shopping and services are close, but do require the use of a car. The light rail station I use is about 2 miles away. So it's easy to go into downtown Hillsboro, for the weekend farmers market. And take a stroll through the original downtown, and the courthouse square to admire the giant sequoias. Or head the other direction, and ride the light rail to Beaverton and grab something to eat at the food truck court, or keep heading east to Washington Park in the West Hills, and go to the zoo, the international rose garden or the Japanese gardens. Or take the train into Portland city center; or drive. And yes, like nearly all urban centers in this country, the population is growing, and traffic is getting worse.
    I have lived in sprawling urban areas like KC metro, and Orange County, CA. Only in Portland, OR, do people think 15 miles is far away. LOL

    Lived here for 25 years, its becoming like the SF bay area: crowded, expensive, insane taxes, but without the great SF food and weather!

    it's easy to get to Portland from Hillsboro...Just drive up to West Union 127 to Burlington... or cut thru to NW Skyline down to NW Portland I loved that sunday drive up there...

    My sister is moving there from Atlanta. We use to live in the Milwaukee, Oak Grove area when we were kids in the 70s.
    My wife and I will fly out there to visit next year from Ocala Florida.

    The cons arent really cons to me. Been in orenco area for 4 years. Not boring at all to me, I can always find something to do. I feel like its not a big to drive into different city to go do certain activities. Dont think people are going bar hopping or to concerts every single day. In orenco area by my apt there is a taphouse and late night pizza place that people are hanging out at all the time.

    Better to be far away from city center in Portland. I see that as a pro.

      Lots of newer developments, very hilly and wooded, beautiful and easy access to the city but a very suburban feel.

    Be careful about where you move, the rush for housing has led to cutting corners by developers and rules for those developers. For example to meet density and affordable housing goals there have been a relaxing of rules for providing parking for residential areas. It is assumed residents can use mass transit so they don’t need a place to park a car. In some cases proximity to a single bus stop means your whole neighborhood doesn’t get adequate parking.

    Homelessness accommodations, meaning park it where you want it is pretty much becoming the norm. Drug usage is increasing. Robberies increasing. Better be bilingual as lots of schools expect it. Lived here 26 years, two more then I'm gone

    Why do reviewers of blue cities always talk about the "culinary scene" Who can afford to eat out in a place where you are paying in excess of 50% of your income in total taxes ?

    • @livinginoregon
      @livinginoregon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People like to go out to eat sometimes regardless of political leaning. If you’re making enough money to be in the highest income bracket for state income tax, you can likely afford to go to a restaurant from time to time.

      Taxes are not even close to that high… also Beaverton area has the best cuisine of any suburban area in the country.

    I lived there and the people are racist Hills boro,you are absolutely just paying for the name and location...there's alot of fast food restaurants,the communities are not Friendly...only thing people would consider good about Oregon is the weed...it rains literally 9 months out of the year,there is no sunlight until summer,so everyone is always in a bad mood...the cost of living is the same as California...it's overrated and expensive...but it is the safest place in Oregon right now...they having a purge and zombie fest in Portland...overall I give it 2 stars one for summer and one for the green environment!!!!!

    What about all the homeless people!!! Way to not show tv hwy!!! And all the homeless camps popping up!! Drugs run wild here

    • @livinginoregon
      @livinginoregon  ปีที่แล้ว

      Omitting TV Highway wasn’t intentional, it’s just harder to point a camera out of the window on a major road. Homelessness is a humanitarian, sanitary, and safety concern at any scale, although Hillsboro and Washington county are nowhere near the numbers seen in Portland and Multnomah County. Also, I don’t think we’ll ever go out filming people in tents, etc - it’s just not what we’re here to do. Graffiti and trash we’ll show all day long, but these are still people out there, regardless of their actions or circumstance, it’s not right to put them on display. Plenty of channels out there will for anyone who wants to see it.
