I really like how the Hydra already has a base green, it makes painting much easier when you can just put a clear coat of primer on then go to town on it, great review as always guys!
@@DrAndrewJBlack no prob, just make sure you wash the miniature with soapy water first, I have had some disasters from trying to take the quick route , it's always better to be safe!
Oooh, this mini series is so gorgeous! I've resisted so far, but if they ever wind up doing something undead- or fiend-themed, I don't think I'll be able to resist any longer!
Everyone seems to think next one serpentfolk? Will it keep with tradition and have them in a different environment like a desert instead of a river/water? I'd like to see an undead encounter with a drocolich boss. Underwater theme Or a gnoll pack and a goristro/balor as a boss, tropical island themed (complete with hawaiian shirts)
Hi Theo, are the minis included in these sets hard plastic and easy to prime? Thanks (Maybe a future video, painting some of these minis?) Thanks for any info if you have time.
Hey Brad! They are hard plastic and they should be as easy to prime as any mini, depending on the method you use. I generally just use a spray primer. I'm thinking about some painting videos when I can carve out some time! Thanks! -Theo
Just when I think it might be safe to go back to the Olive Garden, I learn a very hungry hydra might show up. I’ll pass but I do wonder, how do you treat a hydra like family? I guess I’ll have to buy the encounter and see if it’s detailed in the book. All joking aside, thanks for the great review.
I got given both the Goblins and the Frost Giant box sets for my birthday, they are both absolutely incredible, and really looking forward to playing these after lockdown here in the UK!!
What cool sets. I would like to note that the enemies we have seen so far are quite common and it will be possible to use the figures in the future. We still need zombies and skeletons.
Hello Theo, really enjoy your channel. Loved the Village of the Goblin Chief, that one is a must buy. Probably going to have to get this set too. My guess on the next box set, Naga! I'm with you Theo I was thinking Yuan Ti also. Thanks Theo & have a wonderful day
@@DrAndrewJBlack I assume it would have to be, but I'm not sure if a medusa necessarily classifies as a boss or a minion for their usual release strategy. Trying to think what a serpent-folk or lizard-folk boss might be. -Theo
I"m definitely into the new setting that the videos are filmed in. It has a more premium feel and modern feel to it. Again, another box to buy because the Hydra mini is simply the best on the market! Keep it up steamforged games and keep up the videos Theo & Co, always looking for your videos in my timeline!
While Yuan-Ti aren't open use, there are serpentmen that could be used for the exact same thing. Serpentmen existed in fiction long before D&D did with at least Robert E. Howards Kull stories and popped up, occasionally, in the works he set in later point of his world (Conan and Solomon Kane)
I lovw this hydra! And having already moss and roots sculpted in on its skin gived me sooo many painting ideas... it also gives me great Golgari vibes and, sinc eGolgari is my guild... goodness, I think I'm drooling! As for the next epic encounter, my moneys are on nagas for the first half and couatl for the second (although I secretly hope for gorgons... you know... the real ones, the ones everyone calls medudas, which is dumb because Medusa was the name of a single gorgon... it would be like call all of humankind Mike!)
Yuan Ti was my first choice but I think Lizardfolk is the best guess because of the licensing. Now the real question is what is the boss that would go with the Lizardfolk box? Green dragon?
My first Hydra was the one from the Hercules disney line toy, it was ... I mean IS (it's 23 years old) purple and 4 heads How have the hydras evolved! This one would make minis jump ut of the table.
Certainly seems like the next set will be Yuan-Ti, just not using that specific name. I wonder if that means the big mini will be a Yuan-Ti Anathema type of creature? But that might be too close in aesthetic to the hydra
Every minis that came out prior were supperb. This one is a miss for me though. They should've made all the heads same size. Does it die when you cut off the main head? No. So why differentiate it. Plus the heads hang too low and the body is just one big mass; no flow to it, no epic pose.
Am I the only one here that is disappointed by the sculpts?? :( I purchased all four (4) Orcs/Frost Giant, Kobolds and Red Dragon and the miniature figures are all mushy... The details look like molten pieces of plastic compared to what I seen from videos. Are you all having the same experience or is just me with a bad batch??? :( :( :( This is preventing me from moving forward with this Hydra/Goblin set or the new Setsssssssss (see what I did there?) :) coming out... If needed, let me know and I *WILL* post pictures of the MUSH I"m talking about... ! :) Thx
Please feel free to share. It's a little concerning that it's an issue with all four sets, but you may also consider reaching out to Steamforged and letting them know. It could be a quality control issue with a given batch or with the conditions in which they were shipped/stored.
@@TheGallantGoblin - To be fair the Bosses are not really an issue, it's the SMALLER set that is causing me drama right now... I will try to post on FB and see if I can share it this way with you and would love your response after seeing my photos!!! :) Thank you!

Hehe, thanks Ryan! -Theo
Truly an awesome sculpt.
Cool
I may get it just for the mini. Is it primed?
None of the Epic Encounter miniatures are pre-primed.
Well,Theo, the Steamforged Games sure make a interesting fantasy games,I wonder what will they do next, maybe a barbarian wars, perhaps......
At the moment I believe they're working on a licensed monster hunter board game.
Update: I just bought this and The village of the goblin chief! Wooooo
Woot woot! Good choices! -Theo
A ssssuper ssssspecial Epic Encounter. Another impressive box from Steamforged Games.
Thank you Theo and Grady For the size comparison between the dragon the giant and the Hydra much appreciated and another amazing video

@@TheGallantGoblin Naga or Lizardfolk is my guess.

Hail Hydra!
These always go up while I'm at work and I always watch them in my car right after I clock out

Great hydra mini! I just wish they hadn't put the vines and such on it, as that would make it more easy to use in other adventures as well. :)
What is everyone's experience painting these epic encounter minis?
We have some discussions about painting these minis over on our Discord, if you'd like to check it out, Rachel! -Theo
That sculpt is great, but the encounter itself sounds amazing, lots of cool stuff to challenge the players

A yes the hydra voted most likely to get ahead in monster academy.
Yuan Ti and Lizard folk were my first guesses as well

I’m thinking Naga’s maybe?
I want all of them!!! I wish I could!
Hydras at the Olive Garden????? Another reason to stay away from the place!
At least they'll be mostly out of heads by the time they resort to going there. -Theo
I love that mini so gooood👌👌👌
The skull made me think pirates? But the "sss" don't seem to fit that.
Bought it. Thanks for the review Theo.
Although the minis are nice, the value of it isnt where id like it to be.
The orcs and kobolds have a higher value with the number of minis you get.
Great stuff
That's it looks really cool
Maybe a Medusa?
I think the next Epic Encounter will be serpentfolk
That makes a lot of sense. :-) -Theo
