- Howdy fellow adventurers! Boy do I have a treat for all our shanty boat captains out there. I met a couple of fellas recently that live along the St. John's River who have been quietly building the ultimate shanty boat. They let me and the Nosy Beagle make a short video for y'all...I hope you enjoy it. :)
Can Wavey send you a handmade BWBR's post card? Or sticker? It helps keep fuel in the tank for the next seat-of-the-pants adventure.

They said to him, “We have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them.” And Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me.”

Those gentlemen are true artist
Cool boat! I’ve said it before, so many talented tradesmen out there…and creative. Appreciate you featuring them on the channel.
i'd love to see a video of this boat when it is completed.
The Craftmanship is amazing!
WOW... WHAT A QUALITY BUILD !!!!! =)
I have welded a lot of aluminum and the welds and quality of that build look Excellent, the fold down sides are a great idea. Nice!👍😎
I thought you'd recognize the quality :)
Wow Brenton that is the ultimate river shanty, those guys do good work. Winter is still here, but heading south in 2 weeks on the bike, destination unknown.
I dont know enough about boats. Is this big and safe enough for enture mississipi?
Incredible. Mine is garbage now thanks hahahaha
WOW!
That thing is awesome!
Great boat!!!
have you ever seem the ads for travel wave house boats with fold out toons. nice
I have seen those. The "Wave 360"? pricey!
Chooch it!
Those guys look familiar!
While I'm a wood guy, I'll admit this is a cool build! If adding a raised/slanted bow on yours consider a drop door in the middle as a step down or the like...BestRoy
Roy! I was thinking about making a wooden "plank" the width of the boat (approx. 8 feet) which would attach across the front of the boat on the welded railings. It could be removed fairly easy to function as a walkway off the front, or sides (depending on how the boat is beached) the plank could serve 3 functions: wave blockage, getting on and off the boat....and making crew members who don't behave "walk the plank". Thoughts? :) Also: A nice fella contacted me about your boat plans. I told him he couldn't go wrong and a great idea. He lives in Florida. I wish I had collected more steering wheels on the ICW! :)
@@backwatersandbackroads Ya, that is a good plan!
Wow great work
Couple of gifted fellas Tripper :)
Bad Ass!
Super clean
wow, and again I say Wow! thanks for sharing. I did notice you left out the price , probably just as well, extremely expensive for sure.
Beagle certified!
Beagle approved! :)
Let me grab ya a napkin Brenton, yer drooling!
Lol
I know right?! I hope to weld aluminum someday :)
If I win the lottery - You guys are building it (customised a bit!) quality boat building 🧐
Absolutely! ;)
That's very nice but I like the beagle barge better it has I more one off vibe
Thanks Dave, I like it too. One of the few boats that I like more and more as time goes on. Will be seeing it a lot this summer :)
Insane!!! So cool!! I have had to replace a lot of rotten wood on my old trawler and lots more to do…amazing absolutely amazing
The Super Shanty;)
@@backwatersandbackroads seriously amazing!
I am still learning but I love exploring so much..
If you run across a nimble or a c dory please let me know or and put me on the list for one of yours..
I am pretty handy and enjoy fixing boats up..I would not say I am good but I can get it done..and I am frugal also lol..
@erikyoutube5692 both of those are hard to find anymore. I JUST sold my Nomad to a buddy. If I come across another one, I'll definitely let you know ;)
@@backwatersandbackroads thanks man! I get it..I was lucky with my old trawler good bones ❤️
I am always looking..
Starting to eat at me..need to leave..my daughters mom moved to NY and I will help and protect her until college and then I am gone..I mean I will still help and protect her lol but I need to go..so glad I found your videos
@erikyoutube5692 I have a 14 year old son in Minnesota. There's A LOT of back story to that I can never really get into here. There's nothing more important than choosing who you pair up with in life. It will make or break you (usually break you). Sometimes all a man can do is hover around in the background and wait for his chance to help. I hope your situation is better than mine
I would love to own that boat. I like how it has an open floor plan.
Me too guys ;)
Put a padded wheel on it electric motor turns it under way then becomes a generator while anchored in a stream
Man I just saw a boat like yours but newer here in dog river, al. The bait you took to fla
Imagine that a house with built in apartments for your fish friends 😆
Nothing better than catching a whole mess of "fish friends" and having them over for dinner later :)
are they gonna produce these? i'd love to have one.
I don't think so John. Way too much time into it to be cost effective.
That's cool as F*CK.....P.B.
I may not know much about boats or boating but I do know that aluminum welding is an art! Strong and rust resistant sure but also thin. So welding aluminum is not the same as welding any other metal. One small mistake and you just have a big hole! That welding is military grade! Looks like it's Wavey approved too! 🤣
Yeah! and the best builders in the world are up in your neck of the woods. One of my dream boats (builder went out of business unfortunately) was Glacier-craft boats outside Anchorage I believe. Been watching some of your videos...good stuff. Thanks Mr. Z :)
👌
yes sir :)
Wow! Any idea if the guy wants to build another?
I can report that he won't;) this will be a one odd shanty like the world has never seen ;)
@@backwatersandbackroads your telling me I need to get the tig out? Truly bad ass lamboshanty, but a bit over the top. I don't think Ive ever seen the drop down decks on a winch though.. Clever. Seriously though, you could do the same thing riding on 55 gallon barrels, a deck and a tent.
@@MrRerod next video is a fella who built a barrel boat. Stay tuned! ;)
Would love to know what something like that would cost (ball park)
I asked. Most of the cost would be in labor Tony, though aluminum has shot up substantially like everything else. Laying all those welds is what costs $$
So you have no idea what that would cost?
@@RutherfordTony Let me ask buddy...I'll get back to you here :)
Hmmmm, I’m old school New England and raised on a boat yard. Looks good and all but. You hit a log or such anywhere and you got issues. Don’t know, they may be reinforced tank but, …. Just my opinion.
Clayton definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to this stiff. I know the toons are chambered. And tough. Tougher than a common pontoon boat.
What do you figure the final cost would be on something like that $30,000?
I asked. Most of it is labor and skill. The materials have gone up a lot in the past year. Luckily they got the aluminum before it spiked.
Your looking at 30 in just material. 2/3 of the price is labor. Looking at 90 to 100k
But 10 feet trailering 8 foot wide scares the hell out of me. But it does look awesome. You did say 10 ft. 8 ft is the legal limit and 13.5 tall
I believe it's 10 feet wide with the sides up. It does get white knuckle anything wider than 9 foot (or so) and 8.6 is the legal limit in most states, but it's rarely enforced...unless you get into some kind of accident and people bring the measuring tape out :) I do know that every foot past 8 feet in width feels like double. The Beagle Barge is stuck at 8.6 and I wish it was 10 wide. Oh well...:)
$$$$🙏👍
What about lightning
Good question...I'll ask...
not a big fan of the V hulls on sides and the blunt nose on middle toon. i like your beagle barge better just needs a few small mods. my steel toons have V bottoms justs plows water no lift at all its 10.5 feet wide. 34 long .yes the extra width is nice but a bear to tow on road. even steel has got so expensive. flat middle toon being flat and outside ones with V might make it rock side to side a lot.
I did think of that when looking at it. I remember reading that toon manufactures make them round because that happens to be the shape that gives the most lift and buoyancy in relation to size. These fellas know what they're doing, so I'm sure they thought about it and had a reason for the shape.
Has a fair similarity to a floating guard shack. Utility ain't always pretty, Lol
Welded aluminum definitely screams utilitarian! :)
hi
i hope you having Good & Safe day
Hi Logan :) You're the best
When can I move in?
Seriously!
This would be my "dream live aboard" 🛳⛴️🛳
It's the super shanty! ;)
