DELETE SKOOLIE WINDOWS WITHOUT REMOVING THEM - THE SPEAKEASY SKOOLIE

  • A little update! After year in heat and cold and multiple rain storms and snow our paint has held up really well, we have one or two small air bubbles but no separation and it’s barely noticeable- if we could do it again we would use flex seal spray instead!! The flex seal would just add an additional layer of seal and stick even better to the windows. The spots where we see a small bubble it looks to be an air pocket where the glue is causing a small amount of lift off the glass. You really have to look to see it. Just a updated recommendation for any of you following this video!
    We have not seen any leaks or condensation forming at all evaluating the few areas that still aren’t wall paneled with these. They’ve held up amazing!
    See how we covered and insulated our original windows in our skoolie, we wanted to keep it as original as we could when it came to the windows from the outside so we figured out a way to seal and insulate them from the inside while still looking the same on the exterior!
    Plywood will be going in soon, so subscribe and turn on notifications to follow along on our build!

      If we were to do it today we would use flex seal spray in black instead of spray paint. That’s the only difference in what we would do.

    Did yall remove the ceiling to check for leaks and mold, then put the sound dampening ceiling back on? We have a sound dampening ceiling too. We were planning on checking for leaks and mold.....

    • @ontherocks_offthegrid
      @ontherocks_offthegrid  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We didn’t remove our ceiling, but that was due to our bus being very clean, we removed the side panels and every single thing that mad a hole in the metal and checked the insulation, it was as clean as the day it went in, our bus currently is going through a thunderstorm a day and we haven’t found a drop of water inside. Had we found any issues during the demo process we would have pulled the ceiling. But in our case we didn’t have to

    Hey there, this is wicked smart. My husband and I are planning on doing this for our rig, but wanted to know how it is holding up two years down the line? Do you run into any issues with leaking, condensation, etc? Thanks!

    • @ontherocks_offthegrid
      @ontherocks_offthegrid  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No leaks or condensation. The only thing we would do different is use flex seal spray instead of spray paint.

    Doesn't black colour gather heat? I live in a hot climate and I am wondering whether I should use some other colour, perhaps the same that the bus has

    • @ontherocks_offthegrid

    Great idea on painting the windows. I’m going to be doing the same since the Metal is so dang expensive right now could you tell me how it has lasted like any chips in the paint or coming off. My windows are lightly tinted but not enough to make a difference so needed something else and came across your video. Will be subscribing

    • @ontherocks_offthegrid

      Yes! In the description we talked about what we would do differently. Only 1 thing, use flex seal spray instead of paint. Outside of that it’s held up incredibly well and we’ve had no issues at all

    Eraser wheels remove stickers super well and super fast. We’re keeping out windows as well. But we are worried about how to replace them down the road if we get a broken window. Nice build so far, we sub’d. Where are you all? We’re in GJ.

    No need to take out the windows and reseal, doing this?

    • @ontherocks_offthegrid
      @ontherocks_offthegrid  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We thoroughly checked our rig for leaks when we first got it. Took it to a truck wash and sprayed the heck out of it. Bone dry inside. So, There was no need to reseal but as you saw we did add a lot of silicone to the windows edges to be safe. The only change is that we would use flex seal spray or black vinyl on the windows instead of paint but otherwise we haven’t had any issues at all

      Oh also. I forgot to include it in the video. Whatever you decide to put on, scuff the glass with a scotch pad and clean. The texture helps whatever you use stick better.

    FYI, window cleaner leaves a silicone residue that doesn't allow spray paint and most other coatings to attach properly. It's okay for the first round of cleaning, but then you need to use a stronger solvent to get them completely clean.

      I did it’s just not in the video this was early in our TH-cam journey so some thing got lost in Timelapse or accidentally not filmed. Finished up with some acetone and water and a scuff pad and more water. Our paint stuck just fine.

      It’s held up just fine - maybe one or two small bubbles but no separation at all, hardly noticeable - if we did it over again we would use flex seal spray instead of the spray paint. But the spray paint has held up great.

    Are you worried about condensation getting trapped in the wall from the covered windows?

    • @ontherocks_offthegrid
      @ontherocks_offthegrid  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, because we put in the bubble sheet layer and there will be some air space around them when we put the wall panels over them.
