I find myself using your library of content as a pseudo-Google to find solutions to my problems. So, when I saw how painful snapping objects in Blender was, I thought you would probably have a solution for this, and HOT DAMN, did you have the solution! This add-on just improved my Blender experience infinitely! So happy to have found your channel!
Thanks so much Jason (and thankyou for taking the time to comment on a number of videos as well, that really helps smallish channels like mine). I would also say that now Blender has another snapping functionality already included called Snap Base. Ive got a video on that here if its of interest: th-cam.com/video/wTEET48OaS0/w-d-xo.html
As a creator, this video has to be the best thing I've found in the past year! Simple addon with such a powerful use, especially to those of us who mainly work with hardsurface creations. Thank you AoV for pointing this one out for sure!
Game changer for me. Coming from autocad, 3ds, sketchup, archicad, revit and the likes I found more and more bruises on my head from banging against solid object and then this add on comes and things are back to normal :D Thanks man!
No problem at all. It really is great. For me second only to construction lines (I have a video on that too if you're interested) but that is paid for (though has a lot of great other functions)
Thanks again! I've just started to dig deeper into your video on the construction lines. $11 is not particulary steep price for really useful set of features.
@legolubinski I totally agree. My thought process is get it now because as more features are added I can see it go up in price. Though there is often an end of Summer Blender Market Sale which is good for 25% off so that could be worth waiting for.
The snapping doesn't work for me in edit mode for some reason. Edit: nvm, setting the bind to "shift + v" created a conflicting with one of Blender's vertex slide binds
There's also the free "CAD Transforms" that do something like this a little more clumsily, but it lets you do things like moving a set of verts based on snapping unselected verts. It also includes scaling and rotation stuff that's a lot more powerful than comes in Blender. "Scale points A,B,and C such that point D is 23 mm from point E."
This is similar to CAD Transform addon, but more neat and straightforward, simpler, less buggy (or not buggy at all) and better implemented into Blender, as it respects merge vertices option. It's only missing rotation and scaling but maybe in the future...
Agreed. It's also similar to the tool in Construction Lines (and add on I love for CAD like modelling and some great other features) but as you say I think this may have the edge in how the transformation is presented and the control you have on it.
@@geodatacenter Activate the tool, press 3 to select the face you want for the object youre moving, then tap 3 for face select on the one you want to move it to and click on the face.
I just found you couple hours ago and I think you actually share very useful tips in your every video. I hope you get more successful in youtube. What I would like to see is a video about how to start making money as a 3d artist. Idk if you already done it but I couldnt find it.
Do I understand correctly that it does not rotate the object along the direction of normals? That is, conditionally, if I need to attach the face of an object that stands straight to the face that is rotated by 45 degrees, the object I want to attach will not rotate?
Thanks for the comment and coming back with the answer. As you have said the option is there still, though for new users it may be a little less intuitive because of the normal direction on edges/corners are half way between the corresponding faces.
@katana2665 My pleasure. Just in case you aren't aware since this video was out there is now a snapping tool included in Blender called Snap Base. I've got it in a video here (so you have a range of options): th-cam.com/video/wTEET48OaS0/w-d-xo.html
As you have worked with both: Is this repetetive, if you have Construction Lines? Or in other words: As I'm planning to get Construction Lines, would I still use Quick Snap, once I got used to Construction Lines?
If I had to pick one I would use construction lines. You don't need to say what you're snapping to with that so it's faster and has more options like snapping relative to other object. Admittedly I do like having both as if you are working with really complicated mesh being able to just snap to one thing can be helpful bur I'd use construction lines 98% of the time over this I think.
Still having softer audio issues, but not as bad as the last few videos! As for this addon, damn!! This sort of snap functionality should be natively integrated into vanilla Blender! Thanks for sharing this! Will make life just that much easier IMO!
Thanks for the heads up. Audio still seems to need some tinkering then. And totally agree, it should just be there. Apparently something is coming in Blender 4 but I doubt it will be as well constructed visually as this.
@@2bit8bytes Thanks. Still working on it. Hopefully next one is better. Its off because the sound seems the same as my old videos on my computer, which doesnt help. Hopefully better on the next one.
Help me please.. Im new to Blender, how do I move any object with precision? Example I wanna move the box to the left about 20cm or 150.5cm or 300.15cm. It like select and move the object to the direction we want move then type in the value. ( like a features in Sketchup ). Is it possible in Blender?
Yep. If you click the object and then "g" to start moving. Then hit the key for whatever axis you want to move it on (so "x" would lock the movement to the x axis). Then just type the number you want it to move by on the number pad and hit enter. You can see what's being typed in the top left of the screen but it's pretty small.
Heads up you got pretty quiet in this video again! Also, THANK you, I had an addon to do this before, but it's not being updated for new versions. I've missed this terribly.
Thanks for the warning. I'll have another look into it. And glad the add on is helpful. That it doesn't exist in a nicer way like this in Blender as standard is mad.

@@ArtisansofVaul Thanks for the answer, I am looking for such addon, which would work similarly to how it works in Plasticity where you just select face of one object then select any other surface and it snaps and aligns to it. I will check your video, thanks!

Nice add-on, but I don't think I'm gonna use it just because I have the Construction Lines addon and its snapping function is pretty nice. Btw, the sound is low again :D
Thanks for letting me know, back to trying to work out what's going on there. I agree Construction Lines has more too it but its good for people to save a free alternative. I'm going to be doing a Construction Lines update soon as the creator has been working on some bits to improve stability and add a function I'm really excited about.
