      @@coach_nicolewest I just purchased a 20kilo coming in the mail. It's more than I can do presses with (I can maybe press it once with my right, not sure yet) but I can DIY myself some sandbag kettlebells up to 40lbs, which is what I have been working with. I plan to use the 20kg for swings until I can build up to other things.

    I bought my first KB in 2002. I was 18 and they quickly became my primary workouts. Over 20 years later they have served we well. Kept me in great shape, minimal to zero injuries. Only thing I added was dip bars and a pull up bar. I ave tried different mats over the years. The one I found best was a 5x10 Zebra roll out mat. Plenty of space for really any workout and easy to clean.

    I'm able to just make DIY Sandbag/Kettlebell up to about 40Lb's without them becoming clunky (Sand and water jugs in a Backpack or a Bowling ball bag for swings and C+P's) So I got a 20Kg bell to start with coming in the mail. I know i can't comfortably do presses with the 44lb yet atleast not more then 1-2 with shakey form. But i figured it was a good weight for swings and I will work up to it with my DIY bags of lesser weight.

My strength, doing house chores and carrying kid very satisfactory after a year i started death lift, swing and press only. Thanks for the video! I have been doing a kettle bell programme for the past few weeks now which has been amazing! I am planning to do more of it at home and I don't want to damage the flooring. Do you recommend rubber based kettle bells?

      @coachgabewest  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My pleasure! I'm pumped to hear that you've found a kettlebell program you enjoy!! When it comes to ketlebells, I recommend sticking to cast iron kettlebells without the rubber base, because the rubber bases tend to leave marks on hard surfaces. To prevent damaging the flooring, an exercise mat will suffice. Spri makes a really nice mat that works great for warm-ups/stretching and doubles as a great place to set the kettlebells down between working sets. There are also some pretty inexpensive puzzle piece exercise mat options if you are looking for to create small workout area. Hope this helps!

      @@coachgabewest Thanks for your prompt reply Coach! I live in a small studio flat so something that can roll up will be better. With regards to the mat, does it need to be wide like 4 feet wide or will a typical sized mat (like a yoga mat but denser) is enough?

    • @coachgabewest
      @coachgabewest  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@FarrugiaJose of course! When it comes to the mat size some thing about the size of a yoga mat but more dense will work. The brand I mentioned previously (Spri) is great for rolling up, although I’m sure there are other options out there. The reason I like there so much is that they don’t slide around as much as other brands I’ve used, and they even make some with metal eyelets so if you ever decide you want to hang it up instead of rolling it up you have the option 🤘

    Can't I just do these with my dumbbells?

    • @coachgabewest
      @coachgabewest  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@schobes Great question! With many exercises, particularly grind exercises like single arm rows or single arm overhead presses, yes.
      And while you can do something like a dumbbell swing, you won’t get the same benefit as swinging a kettlebell due to the weight distribution relative to axis rotation.
      Anytime a weight is further away from an axis of rotation it makes it harder to lift (I.e. picking up a shovel by the scoop vs. the end of the handle) and since the kettlebell weight is distributed further from the handle (rather than on either side of the handle like a dumbbell), the force of gravity applied to that weight on the descent of a ballistic exercise makes it harder to decelerate, so you tend to get a greater stretch reflex out of your hamstrings, for instance, which leads to great gains in power (the explosive aspect of strength) than if it were performed with a dumbbell. Hope that explanation helps 🙌
