- So we got it going last week ! Sorted the brakes the lights and the general road worthiness issues…
So it comes the time for some road testing to see if a fella can use this top quality 1970’s pick up as daily transportation
This was my Dad's. Sad to see it go, but so many fantastic memories sitting in the back when i was little, with him driving me & my mates around the block. I used to get so excited hearing it chugging up the hill to our house, because it meant he was nearly home, usually with snacks & a can of shandy for our movie nights!!. Will miss it greatly, but seeing this video & reading all the positive comments warms my heart. Thank you 😊
Fantastic sam I didn’t get to meet your dad as Simon our recovery guy collected it for me, he did say he’d had it for years and use to drive around with the kids riding in the back ( totally standard 80’s parenting! We had a Renault 4 van and just got thrown in the back… no one worried about seat belts back then) anyway it’s back working and we’ll sort it out and make sure it lives on Al 👍
She's a keeper a lot better than the modern junk on the road well done AL getting the old lady purring again
I love to see anything smoke now. Sticks two great big fingers up at net zero. Good on you Al.
At the age of ten, my father came home with 504 estate. It was a T reg, if I remember. We drove from Berkshire to Austria skiing with it and many miles as a family wagon. it was vast inside and all the young stuff parents believed they needed for bringing up off springs fitted with space still available. It was the 7 seater also. One trip from Berkshire to my Uncle and Aunts in Falmouth was about the only time it had a 'moment' and travelling over Dartmoor in the night, the exhaust sheared off the manifold. We didn't need to worry about the sheep in the road, with the sonic boom of a car who's exhaust was short enough to see exhaust valves in the head moving. So, when we got to the 'sleepy' street of my aunts and uncles home, the crescendo of dragster noise of arrival did wake and curtain twitch most of the street. They then 'enjoyed' the early start up the next morning so the old man could get to an exhaust shop to get the parts replaced. Was a fab car and those old french beasts were certainly better than the current tat they now manufacture.
Great video Al. I saved this until the Mrs went off to do her craft stall leaving nothing but peace and quiet and a total lack of "can you just......." behind. Sheer bliss watching this. Thanks Al.
Nice useful old tool 👍 like it 👍👍🇬🇧
Love the sound of an old Diesel. Reminds me of being in my Dads 2.5di mk3 Transit as a kid.
Hi Al. So apart from the random banging, the dodgy wiperage, the smoke screen etc etc the old girl buzzes along pretty well. Great to see, hear and smell it back out on the road. Top stuff. All the best, Mart in Solihull.
That starts better than my old 2.3d Sierra, Can't beat an old school diesel for just keeping going regardless.
The 2.3D engine was a later revision of this engine in Al's 404. Sierra had the 2304cc Peugeot Indendor XD2 installed upright where as they are canted over for the bonnet line in Peugeot cars, but basically their much the same except capacity and minor things like sump and cooling fan.
Brings back so many great memories of my dads and grandpas 404 sedans. Love it. Have a good week. Marc from Australia
Bet that blew out a few cobwebs! Glorious stuff.
Start up reminiscent of a Leyland National! A similar amount of smoke too! 😮🙂
Thanks again for the smiles. 👍
Hi . My yellow pick up is fitted with a XD 2 Diesel motor and 3,899 :1 diff and 0,821: 1 5th gear ratio and drive nicely. My white pick up is fitted with a XD 3 Diesel motor and runs on 3,7 : 1 diff ratio and 0,821 : 1 5th gear ratio. I drive them all over South Africa.
She has plenty of charisma and character she's a keeper Al.
Looks and smokes fantastic. So does the 404 pick-up aswell...but third is a bit sh*t 😄. Enjoyable upload Al.
That runs great agricultural engineering last forever , hope your folks are ok and the bin place has cleaned upits act
Love that old goat❤
If you ever find out why she smokes when cold i would like to know what it was
My 504 is exaktly the same but she starts in a heartbeat even when cold....
Keep it up Al👍😃
I love your enthusiasm for the Poogoat. I remember one of the local contractors had several of these. On a frosty morning you could see them all abandoned on the side of the road as the diesel froze in them! Viva la France 😂
What a machine Al, will run on anything you throw at it 😀
Nice to see you using it as intended.
Absolutely brillant clacking along the road a keeper al 👍
Faster than a clotted fart, smoother than a badger's bottom, acoustic signal for third gear. Luxury, pure luxury.
Great to see such vehicles still running. Long may it do so! 😊
It's a thing of beauty All,god save her and all that drive's it🙏😎👍
Down to earth channel on YT. 👍
Finally found something that smokes more than you!, lol 😂, lovely old bus definitely a keeper, another great video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Chuffed to bits to see this one running again. I always had a soft spot for these. My uncle had one in the early eighties. My dad had the 404 saloon. It’s in my DNA.
What a brilliant little van, love it !! I wish more people had your " we won't worry about that " attitude, your videos are always an absolute joy to watch, are there any updates on your parents awlful situation, please keep us informed, we are all with you on this one.
Sadly no change at current
That's a great Ute, and I like multitasking while driving, too! 😂
Brilliant video couldn’t help but giggle at you al love it keep up the fantastic work your channel is excellent thank you for the great entertainment ❤
That's road ready and to see that bopping down the road brought back childhood memories
The old pug is crying out for some traditional sign writing AL ,,, great channel
Classic camera moment....... the bonnet cable is behind this panel ......... and it wont open for toffee! Very much a working vehicle now Al.
Oh I love a proper old fashioned diesel motor. I’ve got an old Shitroën AX with the 1.4 NA diesel. Sounds lovely, sips fuel but a bit slow. She won’t start hot or cold without a bit of heaty-heaty, but once running it’ll go all day.
Now that's nearly as noisy as my Mk5 transit at 60mph flat out 😂😂 ❤it Al👍
Need get some wiper blades ,so as a man can sees where hes driving nice one Al 😂😂
it's nice to see someone driving a classic and letting us hear the sound's on it
ie the engine ,squeak's 'and all off it quirk's
the sound of old motors make you shut your eye's and dream of past like dads or some one's car from the past
thank'es for that more people need to let people hear the thing that's been driven thank's again
I really want a 404 van now!
lovely old girl good job al. much better then the new shite keep on them spanners mate
That was great.must be a keeper great run about.
Sometimes you have to get Percy on the job. You know, Percy verance.
Lovely old girl you got there Al, maybe chuck a bit of kero in the tank, might clean those injectors a bit. Loving the videos, bit of new floor pan and she'll be right as ninepence.
That banging noise as you go along, was it Fudgy in the back trying to get out?
The in-cab noise is very reminiscent of driving my old MK1 (Golf) Caddy pickup 1.6D
Fantastic work.. no 2.1s came later in 505, 504s and 605s series cars.. 604, 505 etc where they also experimented with turbos in the 505 and 604s
Marvellous stuff! From the days when stuff would just keep working, where did we go wrong? Had a 504 in the early eighties, really comfortable and mechanically bulletproof.
She gets along the road fine for her age!
Slightly smoky!!😂😂😊
It's sounding sweeter as it's loosening up
What a useful vehicle and ULEZ exempt too (we didn't notice the exhaust).
Cool old truck Al 👌
First thing to get is wiper rubbers. Wonder are the glow plugs working on all cylinders?
Outstanding! Slightly disappointed we didn't get to see the exciting levels of smoke it left in its wake from cold though. My 1967 Series IIA diesel could be tracked from space on my commute to work on a winter morning...
Al, going back to your 305 van have you spoke to Colin to keep his eye out on his travels for a half decent front floors, just been watching on here a tank guy called Mr Hewes he just found & got started a Jensen Interceptor powered Series 2a Land Rover, when you do some of your odd words it always reminds me of Stanley Unwin 😊
Joe Hewes is a wonderful channel
Terrific motor Al ! 👍🏼
Love this, i could not help myself, watching this without the wife, who is doing her bit on a long shift at the hospital!!. It looks so good. Really stylishly french commercially useful.
Awesome v log good to see her on the road sounds very similar to a series land rover
Love the Peugeot real old school.
Another ace video Al 👍👍
Great stuff, so funny . Thanks
Good old machine nice one Al
Really glad to see that you got the old Peugeot pickup little jobs done and sort of on the road with the main jobs done just got to do the welding but that's not a problem to sort out my uncle had a orange f reg pickup think that was a 505 but could be wrong I learnt to weld on that buy my uncle thing rattled and smoked really badly when cold but never let him down but all the welding wat needed doing every year was to much in the end but your old one is in good condition and you seem really happy with it al 👍
Its not that its a LHD 😂 Buts RHS column change ❤ now that would take time to get use to.
Column change I have driven FJ Holden ( in NZ ) and Japanese utes & small trucks 🚚 😮 ALL RHD ❤ Always loved the french standard yellow headlights ❤
She is coming good Al. Your hard work has paid off, even third seems to becoming easier to engage. With this being a 1.8 could this be an earlier version of the same engine found in the 205 1.8D? Wonder if some parts from them would fit this, as they are still about.
Lovely old truck
perfect holiday home car Al
Third gear should be a lot better now you've taken all the pointy sharp bits off the cogs. Great old bus. I had 5 Peugeot vans one of them was so good I bought it twice. None of that Turbo rubbish you just needed a good long run up to overtake anything. Great video. Is this a bonus video and do we still get our normal Al and Fudgie Sunday video.
18:27 Did you ask Fudgie (or Mrs Al) to drive ahead to take the drive past shot? Running like a beaut!!! 😃😃
Fudge ended up looking proper dodgy stood on the side of a road 😂😂😂
Superb upload, as per, Boys.
'Geddon', from Teignmouth !
Thank you , some good viewing and heck we do need some.
Absolute hoot! Got to.love the old-school stuff. I see a drag race with the Trabant, for research purposes of course, which is faster!😂
Just thinking about the white smoke, seems a bit like incomplete combustion when cold which could be a timing issue. I assume it's got the Lucas CAV pump like the later XD2 engines, if so worth slackening off the three bolts a bit which hold it place. Slacken the clamp across the 4 injector pipes and then start it up. Twist (with force) the injector pump whilst the engine is running one direction first see what the result is, more knocking or smoke, then the other way to see if it quietens and the smoke clears. Get it in the right place and tighten up the pump. You probably know all this but worth sharing the knowledge when we can. #Weirdcartwitter
Good old French workhorse, pretty rare nowadays.👍
Magnificent job
Excellent video so reminiscent if my Citroen BX , sure they recommended 5 percent petrol in the diesel for winter
Top quality it sounds like your in a corrugated shed in a hurricane 😂😂
An Indenor engine starts very well in general, obviously this one has a compression fault !
Sweet wheels.
Older vehicles are better than the modern rubbish of today great one al
Brilliant
What about a Humber 1ton ? If you are going for the abstract anyhow. Like the 404, truly gallic ! I do not know what I think of the papermachè car. Love the effort, carry on....
Taught I saw greta thunberg peeping over the hedge, when you started up the pug.😂
A real time machine. Unfortunately the name Tardis is already taken so may I suggest Turdis?
Lovely old truck is it 3 or 4 speeder
Lovely great video has always al and fudgie 👍b
She’s got the hole set of 4 👍
Have you thought about valve clearances... listening to the tapping constantly id be checking the clearances on the push rods...
Sounds so good Al. Looks like it doesn’t have power steering either?
No not at all !! But I’d does have a big steering wheel you can heave on 👍
More top quality merchandise Put back into Good use. Citroen HY next??😁.
That blue smoke will kill all the mosquitos and midgets in yr local dorset area, all the locals will thank you. All them yokes used to squeakee fanbelts and blue smoke. Look up mchale engineering, this used to be the owners daily driver in the 80s,
I did 349,000 mikes on my BX 19RD it's a different experience to a turbo car , the BX was quick when driven properly
How come every time I see this old beast I hear the theme tune to 'Allo Allo' in my head 🤔 Good 'Moaning' to you both😂
'Ulo Ulo'
If this is driving something that almost modern i cant wait to see you drive the trabant on the road. Can i ask when you do drive the trabant can you drive it around poole and sandbanks to cause upset and rage to the posher folk who drive non eco friendly range rovers 😂
Very cool Al
Al Use the ash tray man not the floor ! 😂
A bit of a long drive home..
Perhaps a house nearer the workshop or a workshop nearer the house should be a consideration?
A house over the workshop... a workshop under the house...(French style?)
I feel sad for the Silver Transit 😂
Keep the video coming Ai
I could be wrong, usually am, but I think she may be omitting the smallest trace of smoke.
There’s a perfectly good ashtray in the dash can you use it please 😂
3rd gear haha love it
Is it me or do I see an amazing similarity to a character in 'Men in Black' ?
👍
Its not smoke 😮, its a vapor trail 😅😅❤
