I don't know why but I remember watching the indigo league of Pokemon or I think the first season and I remember that it at least used to be that the final episode was ash losing with his final pokemon being Snorlax and he lost against a absolutely massive pokemon that was completely covered in shadow that looked like a gaint weedle and I don't know why I remember that. Ash kept losing, and losing, league after league, all of which made him alot stronger! And he came so close in the illuminose confrence! His loses made his victory here so much more believeable! It also gives him alot of character! Something Red doesn’t have! He reminds of Naruto in that way!! The second i saw what kind of league this would be, specially after introducing masters eight tournament, i knew Leon never stood a chance! Neither would Red in my opinion!

Ash is also one of Red's alternate choice names in the games, they're the same. unless some Palkia shenanigans happens that brings multiple Ash from different dimensions, and one of them is Red, there won't ever be an Ash and Red in the same screen. also Red is overrated.
