Senegal has inaugurated the youngest elected president in Africa. Newly elected President Bassirou Diomaye Faye nominated Ousmane Sonko to be his prime minister this week, capping a remarkable three-week period that saw the two opposition figures go from prison to ruling Senegal, vowing to fight poverty, injustice and corruption. Faye and Sonko were released from prison in mid-March after previous President Macky Sall had attempted to delay the vote, sparking fears of an anti-democratic election process. Faye's ultimate triumph, running on a platform of pan-Africanism and reform, has been a cause for celebration among many Senegalese, including former Prime Minister Aminata Touré, who says "democracy prevailed," giving the country's younger generation a long-awaited opportunity to "shake up the system," adds the Senegalese lawyer and political analyst Ibrahima Kane. Both join the show from Senegal's capital Dakar.

I worry if what happened in Ethiopia will repeat itself in Senegal!! Ethiopia had a young promising prime minister who was widely accepted only to turn the country into a battlefield!! Over a million people died two years into the election that was rejoiced by the entire country!! I would be cautiously optimistic if I were Senegalese!!

He is not a dictator, Their is a governing body and citizens that will keep him and the ethics of running a country properly in check as well as bringing the problems of the country to fix voiced by the people. Macky sall was called out by the people ironically our societies in the western hemisphere can take much from this and as we are experiencing, people are starting to stand up against corruption and unethical practices. This is the start in the right direction. The power lies in our hands.

No. From what the people who have known him for years say, he is naturally a reserved person, and borderline timid. He may come across as nervous but he's solemn and serein as a human being. And besides, he was raised in a countryside (from a rural conservative, traditional and religious African family upbringing). He is not a product of Dakar, the capital city of Senegal where you you have the bustling bling bling culture. That's what I gathered about the young President from people who have known him for years, worked with him, and commented about his personality. I hope that answers your question.
