Senegal has inaugurated the youngest elected president in Africa. Newly elected President Bassirou Diomaye Faye nominated Ousmane Sonko to be his prime minister this week, capping a remarkable three-week period that saw the two opposition figures go from prison to ruling Senegal, vowing to fight poverty, injustice and corruption. Faye and Sonko were released from prison in mid-March after previous President Macky Sall had attempted to delay the vote, sparking fears of an anti-democratic election process. Faye's ultimate triumph, running on a platform of pan-Africanism and reform, has been a cause for celebration among many Senegalese, including former Prime Minister Aminata Touré, who says "democracy prevailed," giving the country's younger generation a long-awaited opportunity to "shake up the system," adds the Senegalese lawyer and political analyst Ibrahima Kane. Both join the show from Senegal's capital Dakar.

We are very happy to see a young president in West Africa ❤❤❤
The young Senegalese have shaken their system and also the region. This is a massive victory for democracy. Viva Senegal. ❤❤❤
I worry if what happened in Ethiopia will repeat itself in Senegal!! Ethiopia had a young promising prime minister who was widely accepted only to turn the country into a battlefield!! Over a million people died two years into the election that was rejoiced by the entire country!! I would be cautiously optimistic if I were Senegalese!!
Senegalese have been suffering and fighting for a long time. Hopefully they would be able to find their way out of this decisive situation successfully.

The most dangerous word to use is "democracy."
Definitely more optimistic than that lawyer. When you have the will, you have the key to success. This is just the beginning. Africa has awakened. Proud Senegalese citizen here 🤗🤗🤗🤗💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾.
This is such a crazy story. I was happy to hear to him say he'd rule with humility, I wish more leaders would say that and mean it. Us young people can't make the same mistakes of the past
He is the son of poor farmers. He wanted to become a police officer and failed the psychological test. But, ended up being the best tax inspector.
God’s plan is amazing.
Assalam-Aleykum our dear people of Senegal 🇸🇳. The journey is long but the patience of the people will deliver on the agenda. We thank you for the achievements and Allah is with you. Hassan (Bigman) from Kenya.
I hope with this new young leader Senegal grows from strength too strength. Blessings .
I pray the the power will not corrupt him
@@CorporateGameOfficial . The world will show support for sure, but if you are mentioning UK, don't know about the others, forget it. Western entities, only care about power. You will have better luck praying to Mars!!!
lol, he is human, it will but hopefully it is a very slow process in his case...
He needs God and a council of experts in various fields that won’t just be yes man, like a balance of checks and balances. I hope his presidency is a success. Hoping for the best.
He is not a dictator, Their is a governing body and citizens that will keep him and the ethics of running a country properly in check as well as bringing the problems of the country to fix voiced by the people. Macky sall was called out by the people ironically our societies in the western hemisphere can take much from this and as we are experiencing, people are starting to stand up against corruption and unethical practices. This is the start in the right direction. The power lies in our hands.
All he need is prayers, you will have good intentions, but immediately you sit on that throne, you will change, so they need our prayers, because it's not easy as we see it,
Congratulations Senegal
I pray it happens in Uganda 🙏🏽
I pray for that too
We made it happen ✅🇸🇳
well done boys, i am.bulgarian but i acc see this guy to be a great leader , maybe the nedt gadaffi and kwameh maybe ?
What a charismatic person. First impression is very good. Hopefully, power in certain number of years will not corrupt him and he will make a very positive influence on his country and that region.
We did it ❤❤❤
Congratulations!!!
Not yet 😅
We have to give them a little bit time
This is why the American prison population should NOT lose their VOTING rights! If you are AFFECTED, you should have a SAY in the POLITICS that govern YOU!
Proud to say that prisoners can vote in Canada, so that may be an example you can use.
@@Baraz_Red Thank you for sharing. I don't have a platform and I'm not in politics. Simply sharing my views on this matter...
@@Baraz_RedCanada also has a single payer medical system. What's not so good for Canada is your government kowtows to US administrations' wishes.
@@ArleeStarr Many of our politicians, especially the Conservatives, are extreme suck-ups to the USA (and Israel) without any critical thinking nor nuances.
@@ArleeStarr Not always and Liberal governments tend to do better at standing up against US administrations, unlike the Conservatives that are becoming more Trumpy by the day. Example: voted for ceasefire and refunded UNWRA.
Congratulations 🎉 Senegal may Allah guide the new president. Keep going Senegal.
Thanks for the Senegalese people you've shown true democracy to the entire continent.l'm optimistic that he'd improve the country's economy as he promised.May he reconcile with those who send him to prison.Again , thanks to the election commission for being sincerely open and trustworthy.Following from lakeside city (Kisumu) Kenya.
As a traumatised Nigerian, I concur with you completely that they should praise their Electoral Commission unlike the disgusting Nigerian INEC who decided the elections.
This is amazing!!
But the American opposition leader, jail him
Well done Senegal 🇿🇼 I'm happy
I pray the change currency really works out for the people of 🇿🇼 when it’s all said and done Africa will prevail and there is nothing stopping it now. The next generation will be twice more ruthless
I saw the documentary Incorruptible from Senegal and it is in French and discussed stuff similar to this
That documentary should have been Oscar nominated. Maybe the next one about the Senegalese presidential elections could
And this footage could be used too
oscar go only to uKKKranian films😂😂😂
@@johnnyknoxville5917I don’t get it. But Senegal can get one too
USA will likely send some "freedom bombs" like they did in Libya. I wish the best for Senegal.
May Allah saves us from your tongue. Senegal is unique and always under Allah’s protection 🙏🏾🙏🏾
@@Dac_59 I'm actually rooting for you. It's just unfortunately what western imperialism does when they don't get their way.
Likely? Nah. No chance. America doesn't care
u would be surprised
@oceantransistor Although you might be right, I BIND THAT THOUGHT IN THE NAME OF THE ALMIGHTY!
Wish him all the best tough call
Congratulations . Good luck! 🙌
Ousman Sonko is the true charismatic leader between the duo. Diomaye was a second option because Sonko was prevented from participating, influenced by France in the background. I suspect that after Diomaye's mandate is over, Sonko will be elected as the next president. Mark my words, Sonko will be the next president. He is the real master planner and revolutionary.
Senegal has to recover from the French policy of exploitation. This is the work of the people and the new government to undone what has been imposed by colonial rule. This has to be all over Africa, because the continent is suffering the negative effect put upon.
You understand what is going on in Senegal very well, where are you from?
@@amuskogroup3438 From Cameroon my friend.
Sonko is the genius behind all this! The man has fought for three years, jailed, accused of rape, his reputation tainted, went on a hunger strike twice (40 days, yes 40 days!!! Was revived numerous times) then went on a second hunger strike for 6 days. The man is like the Senegalese Ghandi/Nelson Mandela. 💪🏾
@@beaten-bruised-unbroken nice God bless Cameroon
If you go from Prison to Leader of a Country , the people think you were Innocent
But if you go from president to prison, we know he is guilty....Trump
@@conniefoss9382 You stink 🦨
That can't happen in Uganda my country, we think others should focus on other things not the presidency ,you won't be released from prison, if released then you will be escorted by armed military upto your bedroom, you won't be allowed outside your gate, teargas will be thrown into your bedroom, sitting room, kitchen etc
@@onenrobert8296 sounds like Uganda is quite a bit smarter than other African countries Countries , Good for you Uganda !
Viva Senegal this is true spirit of youthfulness and it's high time all African youths rise up to be the leaders of today for the better future.if we remember it's the youths that got us independence.

From the beginning, there were clear suspicions that Ruto was anti-Somaliland. If these suspicions come to the surface, Somaliland will severe any relations it has with Kenya. 9000 qualified and professional kenyan workers in Somaliland will be sent back home, their permits and contracts cancelled. Any imports of Kenyan products will be ceased.
Not a democracy its a people's power vs the system
Absolument
Thanking you for providing us with your excellent reportage.
Former president Macky Sall has left Senegal for Saudi Arabia soon Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye took office. What makes African presidents always running away soon they leave power? How often we see former leaders from the West or Asia coming to Africa for protection when they leave office? Sall, in my opinion was Senegal's worst president! He is escaping prosecution and thinks the Saudi Government will protect him. He needs to be deported, investigated and prosecuted.
Don’t speak on behalf of Africa like that. In Kenya we live with our former presidents...good or bad
Congratulations these are presidents we need in Africa who are not western puppets
A beginning is always a step forward. 5 years is a short period. However, it is one step at a time. Senegal will make good leadership, and we believe profoundly.

Am i the only one who sees the president feeling nervous
He should be. The US corporations and CIA have a looooong history of removing democratically elected African Presidents whose loyalties are with the everyday people. Senegal is now on their radar, or in their sights.
No. From what the people who have known him for years say, he is naturally a reserved person, and borderline timid. He may come across as nervous but he's solemn and serein as a human being. And besides, he was raised in a countryside (from a rural conservative, traditional and religious African family upbringing). He is not a product of Dakar, the capital city of Senegal where you you have the bustling bling bling culture. That's what I gathered about the young President from people who have known him for years, worked with him, and commented about his personality. I hope that answers your question.
Feeling nervous because the sea aye yay has many tentacles.
We the people from Haiti 🇭🇹 choose Mr or ex Senator Guy Philippe to become our new Leader after the complicity of several unidentified countries, those that call themselves Bourgeois & other gangsters from the country itself assassinated our elected President Jovenel Moise.
We also demand Justice for Haiti 🇭🇹 & our late President.
Let keep trying. To change Africa. The man sounds pessimistic, but even change needs a foundation . Africa needs an African model of governance.
That's the truth democracy we need in Haiti.
Haiti 🇭🇹 has a lot work to do my brother but we routing for you keep fighting. My soon to be wife is from 🇭🇹 🫱🏽🫲🏿🇸🇳
Get France out and the locals will be employed about 1000 jobs ,security department.

Good news, this would do nice movement to right way development and lead to get rid of impralizm system which existsed in the country before.
Back to work now Mr President, lets hit the run way now and get started. Any questions about France, ask Traore. Dont go to cowards to advise you
Wish this will happen in Nigeria oh God please help nigeria too much enemies ad foreign power holding Nigerian backward
Nobody can help help 🇳🇬 except the people. More specifically the youth. You have the masses but change don’t come unless you fight for it. I really do hope one day you all will rise as one ☝🏿 Africa’s independence is in your hands. We🇸🇳 genuinely believe that.
May God give him wisdom as He gave Solomon of the bible. Amen.

I hope Senegal gets a better future. Makisal was really a bad president
Thats a big change.
Thanks Senegal 🇸🇳
DESPITE THEIR SKIN COLORS WE SHALL KNOW THEM BY THEIR FRUITS 😂
How does Kenya manage to steal votes and declare loosers as winners and winners as loosers, and here in Senegal everything is as it is supposed to be😀😀😀
The same thing happened in Uganda, Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamy aka Bobi wine won the 2021 elections but corrupted government officials couldn't declare him, all Ugandans we're angry but can't protest because the army was told to shoot to kill
Why did the MEDIA NOT EXPLAIN WHY HE WAS IN PRISON.
Anyway, more POWER to the new Regime.
He just said the justice was corrupt. He spent almost a year in jail because of that
Pray for Haiti so like that we can choice there own President .
