Clearly the most memorable scene of the movie, and i loved it as a kid and i still do. Like half of the movie was spent with telling the viewers how much amazing and important this plane is, and now this is the first time we see it and it becomes within reach for the protagonist. The music maybe menacing, but also adds a sense of wonder about the plane, suggesting how great the plane is. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a proper build up. It saddens me how underrated some movies are.
VigoDoria agreed... that scene made my jaw fall open when I was a kid, and had to use a cable tie to keep it shut and not dribble.. even today I love this jet...
VigoDoria My son is now 7, the same as I was when Firefox came out. I showed him this scene, and his reaction was exactly the same as mine . . . a proverbial OH MY DEAR GOSH!!!! To this day, this movie played a big part in inspiring me to enter Aerospace engineering.
Ku Dastardly yes.. his orders were to steal FF1 and destroy FF2 if posible.. but he couldnt do that... when he begins to record in the Firefox to "debrief" his mission in case he would be shotdown he states "unknown how much damage the second prototype sustained"
@@KuDastardly his only objective was to steal the primary one. The damage or destruction to the prototype was left to boronovich or the other scientists but failed to have the flames catch the fuel lines.
i was six years old, this scene sent chills up my spin when i watched it in the theater with my dad. for any conscious survivor of the cold war... cheers.
I love the way the Mig emerges onto the screen. Compared to that, the Darkstar reveal in "Maverick" was nothing. Just ride in to a hangar, and there it is.
@Roborav When I see the red star on the tail fin at 0:36, it sends a chill throughout my body. "These Ruskies are TOTALLY superior!" is what I'm thinking.
I am no Aeronautics Engineer but the plane looks a little ungainly for supersonic flight. Too much stuff hanging off the wings. Only gripe I have with this is that the ending was just a dead rip on the trench run from Star Wars. Except with ice.
Back then in real life America already had this plane the SR-71( minus the weapons of course). Still though this scene is just pure Eastwood at his best!!
still love this film... my only wish is that they, like they did with Star Wars, have a special edition where they enhance the flying and dog fight sequences as they did in the Death Star Battle at the end... the Migs in those sequences don't look like they are flying, but floating against a background. But the suspense and build up to what we finally see in this scene was very well done.
The great thing about the book is that Gant steals the plane roughly half-way through, so there's a lot more flying action - they trimmed it down for the film, probably because the effects cost so much.
Movie was pretty slow in the beginning, because it was necessary to lay out a lot of things in getting the pilot actually to the plane...but, once the takeoff occurred it became one of the best action films of the time. Remember the old laserdisc based videogame in the arcades?
Are you referring to the Cobra's super-sonic surveillance/pursuit fighter the Night Raven? That jet was Bad ASS! I had one myself. However, I actually preferred the Cobra Rattler due to its similarity with the A-10 Warthog which is my favorite aircraft US service. #Goodtimesa
Fiction has a habit of becoming reality recently. the Chinese new stealth fighter looks a lot like the Russian federation Mig 1.44 which in it self looks liked the soviet super fighter Firefox. Maybe the Russians actually saw something they liked? which the Chinese saw later??
coincidence.. usually many planes end up looking similar due to requiring same solutions to same problems (leading edge extensions wich were first introduced in the F-16 and ended up in F-18, MIG-29, SU-27.. the short angular nose (F-117 inspired i guess) however never became even remotelly simular to anything final
@@sparrowlt My guess is that the designers of the Firefox must have seen some gossip about angled surfaces being good for reducing radar cross section because it seems to be far too much of a co-incidence otherwise.
wnyone know there the clip is when he lands at some ciA dark site, parks the fighter, goes into the hangar medical checkup room, kills the fake doctor about to inject him w rapid acting poison?,then escapes
That is true, Robby House. Most of the critics at that time dismissed it as a form of Reagan-era "Evil Empire" propaganda. 1982 was also the year of "E.T.: The Extraterrestrial". While the Hollywood press at the time could not write enough sycophantic accolades for Spielberg's film, they disregarded such future classics as "Blade Runner", "The Thing" and "Tron". As for me, "Firefox" and "Where Eagles Dare" have become my two favorite films from Clint Eastwood's remarkable body of work as an actor and director.

I think they did an excellent job with the design of the plain. It really looks different to actual planes. I'm no flight engineer, so I don't know if the design is reasonable, but it looks pretty cool.
Good point I hate the music too for this scene. To bad they couldn't get John Williams or at the time Jerry Goldsmith to make up a score for this one scene.
4setto As much as I agree with the other two posters on this thread (I REALLY hated the score for this film), I think you hit upon something with your comment that I never once considered. Thought provoking. :)
Firefox the plane STILL looks great.

True!I was only a baby when this movie was released!A year and a half but I love 80s and 90s movies than those of nowadays!
I like how at the end the camera focus on the second Firefox prototype in the background.. hinting that it will play an important role later
+sparrowlt Eastwood was a pretty solid director even then.
+sparrowlt If I remember right, his secondary objective was to sabotage or destroy the FF2, but failed to do so in time.

It was a clever way to cover that only one full mock-up was built.

NIne. My father was with me too.
I was just about to say so myself.
Remember, this was released in '82, a few years before the general public was aware of the F-117 and B-2.
coolest fucking JET ever!!!!
1982. Like the Pontiac Firebird of that year, this plane will NEVER age! :)
The first time I saw this as a child I gained the utmost respect for the Soviet Union.
I saw it in 2007 on TV xD
It was an american movie moron.
I love the way the Mig emerges onto the screen. Compared to that, the Darkstar reveal in "Maverick" was nothing. Just ride in to a hangar, and there it is.
Looks kinda like the SR-71, only more angular.
It's probably based on one of those F-19 model kits they had back in the 80s.

Damn, that's some menacing music. I had to turn the sound down.
Too bad this soundtrack has never been released in any format.

Man I miss the Cold War. I want it back!
MissileD11- I agree. Things were so much simpler back then.
Really should have been more careful about what you wished for…
Well you got your wish bro

I would assume if they tried to remake the flying scenes it would end up looking like the movie "Stealth"
I remember reading a few years ago when I was looking for a copy, that the original master recordings were lost in a fire back in the late 80's
This fuckin' movie was TIGHT!!!!!!!
YFLOInternational I agree...
waaaa.. that's the shit right there..... forget, airwolf, Knight Rider or street hawk.. FIREFOX is the shit.. man that aircraft gives me a woody.lol
Fucking Epic !! love the 80's Films Best
I wish they had made the sequel.
Yeah I read the book it was epic,
Same music from Strange Brew during the hockey game. 0:23
this movie was so awesome !! just a plain nail biter !! major head fuck every 5 minutes he bout to get caught !!
It probably exists, what a machine, impressive
What synth for this music ? polivoks ?
It so much cooler than the real Mig-31...
U mean no did not recognise he was not a Russian and does not work there. False acting
LONG LIVE OUR BELOVED MOTHER RUSSIA!!!! MAY SHE ALWAYS CRUSH THE SOULS AND BODIES OF ALL FASCIST BEASTS WHO DARE CHALLENGE HER!!!!!
Firefox always reminds me of the Cobra Night Raven.
I had one! Ahhhh, the memories!

Still waiting for a 1/48 scale model of it.....
And that's why it was my most favorite G.I. Joe toy EVER. ;-)

Wrong movie...
My favorite clip of music of this show.
The movie mockup made 30 years ago looks more realistic than the Iranian "stealth" fighter they just unveiled.
it probably flies better too... at least they have miniatures landing and taking off..wich is more than the Iranian mock up will ever do
@DavyTom71 Good Lord, you're right. How can I not have noticed? To hell with the almost universal panning of this movie...I LOVE it. :)
Really? It wasn't well received when it was released?

The F22?!!!! Pfft never heard of it!! The fictional Firefox is a deeply sinister looking jet

Those song wouldn't have been released on a soundtrack... It'd have been on the score.
Which you might be able to sage if you're good enough.
muchas gracias, medellin colombia 2017 febrero 25 - 2017 exitos me gusta FIREFOX happy berdy 49 years old
Still better than boring mind numbing crap like Eat Pray Love.
Sandy from Emmerdale was one of the UK agents planning the robbery
Clint kicked punk asses and russian jejeje
@MagicAlDF It was based on the Mig 25/ 31. No other plane.
@diveplane yeah it does good eyes, i guess they might of seen the movie and like the front part of the nose lol
This re-enacts what it must be like to walk into a restricted hangar at Area 51
O filme raposa 🦊 de fogo 🌏🇧🇷
The scene would certainly make your jaw drop as a fighter pilot at 0:14.
Release it on Blu-Ray will ya??
@sdrawkcabgnipytmi ROFL not that kind of firefox LMAO
Iranians one is fake
@rommeljnr
Yeah dude...just finished the sequel myself...bloody brilliant stuff.
@DavyTom71 haha spot on bro and a little like the A5-A VIGILANTE
i remember watching this as a child with my dad and seeing it for the first time and going O.O
Whats that song in the begining where he walks in
Fabulous mockup.
It a beauty
at the start of the evil song had a UFO sound in it
I don't.
It's just a dressed up SU 35

Fascinating! Thank you.
Could have done without the cheesy 1980s synthesizer score that introduces the Mig-31. Reminds me of a John Carpenter movie. lol

You both wrong! Fantastic synth score for this. Really impresses on the viewer the superior and sinister technology of the Soviets.

The score for the flying through the mountain scene was tight tho.
Soviet answer to the SR-71 Blackbird
I remember this scene !
