    Bought a new Yanmar Vio 50 last year to maintain my own property. I was new to excavators and was scared to death. A year later, I'm very comfortable operating it in all terrains thanks to videos like yours. Thank you again for taking the time to help newbies!

    Thank you for taking the time to show and narrate your work on a steep slope. It is amazing to me how the vast majority of the other TH-cam excavator videos show them only working on flat ground and often with no obstacles close by. You videos are by far the most relevant for my situation; steep slopes and lots of trees to avoid. Great job with the video!

    I got my first job on Friday. My neighbour's horse died giving birth and he wanted me to bury her before the kids got back from school.
    I've had horses buried before but never done it myself. So although it was very sad for a horse lover it's something I need to learn. We live in a horsey area.
    I couldn't charge them for it as they've done so much for me over the years. Just neighbours helping neighbours.

    Once again I learnt so much from this clip. It was also reassuring to see you doing some of the things I've been doing. As you say - much of it is common sense.
    You're right, the ViO55 is nicely balanced. I have been dredging silt from my ponds and some of the banks are very steep. I'm getting more confident with practice but still being cautious. I built myself a kind of a dirt pier to reach some of the middle parts of the pond then went back and dug it back out again. It seemed like a crazy, slow thing to do at the time but I've seen other operators on here do it since.

      Whatever it takes to get the job done safely is a good way.

    Great advice about not mulching it down to bare dirt to prevent mudslide and erosion.

    Hey Todd, thanks for the tips. I'm about to hit my first steep slope job on an KX 080. That should be interesting. I'm looking forward to it. I'll keep your tips in mind.

    Excellent tips...subscribed.......I'm getting ready to work on STEEP slopes, but there are a lot of rocks,
    basketball size, to 4,000 lbs, got rubber tracks, on this e85 bobcat excavator, removing heavy brush
    And repositioning big rocks. to make nice driveways.

    Awesome advice. Until recently all my jobs have been on flat or mostly flat areas. Now I have a job fixing some erosion on a slope then stabilizing the ground cover. This will definitely help me feel more comfortable on that hill. 👍

    I have a Volvo EX35C and work in Transylvania county. Everything is on slope here! 😩🤣. Was recently clearing small trees on a steep south facing slope that never get sun so is always wet. It was slip and slide! Great tips in this video that I can put into practice next time on the mountain.

    One of the best things I did for my machine was make pedals for the track controls. Excellent advice and good job mulching that hillside

    Thank you brother this video is very helpful, I’m getting a steep lot in the North Carolina mountains. Can I have to put in a driveway and level it out as good as I can. I’m clueless on what I’m doing but like everything else in life I’ll just jump in and figure it out. Definitely beats paying $15,000 for somebody to do it.

    Good tutorial. I tipped my first excavator on my mountain property in January this year, 3-ton Komatsu. Wish I would have seen this before then (luckily no big issues from it). Caught it on camera though, so I watch it occasionally to keep the fear in me. ;-)

      How did you right your Komatsu?

    • @ShimodaLife
      @ShimodaLife 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sierra14ers combination of electric winch (had to haul the generator in with me) and a hand come-along. Took about two hours.

Your video are a godsend for me. Thank you. I have to learn how to do switchbacks, can i use trees that i knock down for reinforcement of the switch back wall? 🎉

    You would think those expensive machines have some type of warning system that beeps or something if you’re doing something wrong that could cause it to tip over

    Awesome! Looking at getting a cutting head for my Bobcat e42 to keep my roadsides and ditches trimmed, but my roads are pretty steep. this is great! What happens if you lose a track on a hill?

    Great tips. I’m getting ready to mow the brush on two pond dams with a Kubota KX040 with an Eterra flail mower. Scariest part for me is staring at the top of the dam and hitting that teeter totter point pointing downhill. You just have to trust the machine and go for it. If you were brush mowing a dam and you had to start at the top since its too marshy to start at the bottom, what is the best way to get back up? Use the zig zag method you described? Love your videos.

    Thank you for informative video. I am a bit astonished to see you with the boom up while moving up or down. I would be scared of doing it because it brings the machinés gravity center up

    What I’m wondering is can I flatten the whole top of this piece of land if it’s 5 acres of Steep land, not sure what equipment I’m gonna need to rent.

    I have several very steep ditches filled with ballast rock along our shared right of way driveway that I need to clean out as per original specs. They filled up with sediment. The ballast needs to be removed and the sediment cleaned out and the rocks put back in. The one ditch is about 75' long and 2' to 3' wide. I have a very small mini ex called a Bobcat E20 to do it. Should I position the machine in the ditch facing up hill with the blade behind me to dig by pulling the rocks back down towards me or position it facing down hill with the blade in front of me and essentially pulling the boom and rocks back up hill towards me? I'm wondering which is safer and or more effective.

    Thanks for the video! That hillside looks a lot like where I grew up in Southwest Virginia. How steep was the grade you were working? Are those Yanmar machines stable on 25 degree (45% grade) to 30 degree (60% grade) slopes?

    • @DigginLife21
      @DigginLife21  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im not sure was percent but it was very steep. Yanmars are not the most stable of machines that's for sure

    Hi I own 17 acres of sloped land that I want to create UTV trails and fence lines for goats. Your mulcher looks like it would work well for me, but I'm wondering if I need a mini ex or whether I could do something similar with a tractor?

    The best is, don't do it with a standard tracked exavator, but take a spider insted.
