  • Sports reporter/columnist Dick Weiss tweeted that Utah could be looking at exiting the Big 12 to move to the ACC. That move wouldn't make sense, at least not while the ACC is unable to offer stability in its league.
On today's episode of Locked On College Football, Spencer McLaughlin is joined by 'Locked On Ole Miss' host Steven Willis. The Rebels snagged DL Chris Hardie out of the portal from Jacksonville St, just the latest in a line of impact transfers for Lane Kiffin in 2024. 10:20
UCLA Head Coach DeShaun Foster is AGAIN showing strong signs with regards to the sort of program he could build. 4-star QB Madden Iamaleava, younger brother of Tennessee's starting QB, chose the Bruins over other Big 10 programs and that's a great sign. 19:55

After the SEC/B1G finish consolidating, the ACC should be just as stable as the BIG12. I don't see any current ACC interest in UTAH; CAL+2 barely got accepted. I could see some mutual 4C interest with the future ACC after it depletes out.

If the universities could easily get out of the GoR then they would've settled by now. The ACC is more secure, because its GoR locks everyone into the conference until 2036 (despite Florida State's assertions to the contrary). Also, you're acting as if Clemson and Florida State aren't in on the decision to pursue Utah (which, along with Cal, Stanford, Arizona, and Arizona State, is who the conference was pursuing before the Pac-12 collapsed). Want to know why Utah is back in play (allegedly)? Money. The House settlement is going to cost every university $20-22 million, and the ACC pays more. The end. Do you know what'll make Clemson and Florida State happy? More money. Do you know what'll get everyone more money and cut down on travel costs? Adding Utah to the ACC. Also, I'm happy to see that you took the time to read the journalist's biography. People with Hall of Fame careers (as evidenced by the fact that he is... you know... a member of your profession's Hall of Fame) don't make wild a** assertions that have the ability to risk their reputation. By the way, yes, the ACC is more stable, and the rationale is simple: The ACC pays out more money, has better brands, better markets, an exclusive partnership with ESPN/ABC, a higher payout from the CFP, etc. Want to know why this report surfaced? It's simple: In light of the House settlement, many people believe there were high-level discussions being had about Utah's possible interest in pursuing the championship purses from the ACC (which will see the overall payout for the winner shoot up to $70 million annually). Toss-in the reduced travel from having a western division for the conference and the temporary floor from the normal distributions, and everything starts to become... complicated.
