    It always amazes me how 'marks' on a canvas can be interpreted by your mind as (in this case) a field of sunflowers! The ultimate
    Impressionist style. Thx for sharing your prodigious talent, Karen! 💜

    Amazed...My favorite artist has always been Monet (I know it's a different medium)...that is what this reminds me of. I'm a beginner artist. I've done a little watercolor, which really confused me (I just could not paint backwards..you know, light to dark). I've done a little oil, but life got in the way. So now at 60, I'm gonna try again. I started watching your channel and have fallen in love with pastels. So wish me luck painting. I've completed one so far, it's a sunflower also. I didn't realize when a bought my first set there was so many kind of pastels and I got oil pastels (I love my first try but found it difficult to control)...I now have just about all the variations of pastels including pan pastels. Now to just get up the nerve to try again....thank you for helping me through this. Much respect.

    What a great technique, I love the colors in the underpainting and the vibrancy it adds. Do you know if the oil in the underpainting medium will affect the pastels in the long run? Thanks so much Karen.

    • @KarenMargulis
      @KarenMargulis  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know for sure but I have done this for at least 10 years and have not seen any issues with my paintings using the oil stain. I imagine it is fine since pastel is the same pigment as in oil paint so there shouldn't be any reaction.

    Hi ma'am, will this work with my cloth canvass oil painting, i wanted to try this bcuz i don't wanna waste my painting and i didn't like what i painted in oil... And what can i use if i don't have mineral spirits to erase it? I have only a paint thinner and some turpentine with me... 😔😕 Thanks!

    • @KarenMargulis
      @KarenMargulis  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can paint pastel over oil but if the paint is too thick or slick the pastel will not stick. You would also need to frame the painting under glass so the pastel won't smudge.
