    NASA wants 15 flights from Starship, but has only flown SLS once to date. Fish and Wildlife are so concerned about what SpaceX might pollute the local area, but every single rocket launcher in the world throws all of their first stages into the sea.

    • @javant6993
      @javant6993 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The reason why NASA is content with just one SLS launch could be because it was developed from STS and Delta IV technology which were extensively tested and used. Starship doesn't have that reliability record yet, and the shuttle disasters had NASA reconsider the importance of safety. And not every rocket launcher throws the first stage into the sea, a lot of Chinese and Russian launchers have the first stage impact land.

    • @SimonAmazingClarke
      @SimonAmazingClarke 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@javant6993 Agree that 90% of the SLS tech was Shuttle tech. Then it should be a lot cheaper than it is.

    • @javant6993
      @javant6993 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@SimonAmazingClarke in my opinion STS technology was very expensive to start with, but the production restart RS-25 engines are going to be a lot more expensive (including inflation) than those from the original production run. It could be because of NASA contracting (Boeing makes the core and second stage). Still, SLS is significantly more expensive than it could be.

      The big difference between the levels of scrutiny can be narrowed down to who owns what program:
      NASA: US government, they’re not going to follow their own laws.
      Blue Origin: Bezos is willing to play ball with the politicians.
      SpaceX: Musk has shown a commitment to free speech by exposing censorship collusion between social media and 3 letter agencies.
      SpaceX is getting the vast majority of the government scrutiny not because they’re doing anything wrong, but because they’re owned by someone the current government dislikes.

    If NASA's aim is to establish a permanent human presence on the lunar surface, then Starship is the only means to reach that goal. Starship is completely reusable unlike SLS/Orion, New Glenn, and Vulcan/Centaur, which at best are partially reusable. Consequently, the cost of operating Starship will be a few percent of the costs for those other partially reusable launch vehicles.
    NASA, of course, understands this situation and knows that those partially reusable vehicles are dead ends. They are extremely expensive to operate and, at best, can only send 6 tons of payload to the lunar surface per launch. That's far too small to establish and maintain a permanent human presence on the lunar surface.
    Starship, by contrast, can send 10 to 20 passengers and 100t (metric tons) of payload to the lunar surface on each mission.

    Time for all the space programs to come together and move forward - take set paths. SpaceX and BlueOrigin do rockets and others develop the payloads. Like Von Braun have mobile launching sites, especially in the light of delays caused by government departments. The marine launchers are exactly righr.

    SX is building a Mars lander. NASA has zero viable options, for a lander for it's Artemis lander. It's only option is using the SX Mars lander. The SX schedule is independent of the Artemis 3 goal, which was in reality, a political goal.
    Hahaha, sorry BO's idea of building a Lunar lander within a decade is kind of a joke. Who thinks New Glenn is going to fly perfectly on it's 1st attempt. Let's see BO put a rock into orbit before we start talking about BO being a viable aerospace company.

The rest of the industry are slow pokes, doing it the old wasteful way. Disagree well just take A at the whole SLS game ( oh my don't do it the right way, we've got folkes to pay off. You know, it is the "Don't take my gravy away)
    You seem to be so anti SpaceX, the bias shows in all your otherwise good videos.

      They lost out because it burns methane, 6 times the price of lunar in situ hydrogen. NASA insist repeatably that lunar development must be "sustainable" i.e. cheap.
      That's why Starship HLS is in for the chop, too expensive for Artemis.
