They probably are charging a little much for the Mario remasters, especially considering the Metroid Prime remake was amazing and only costs $40…that being said, I absolutely love the Luigi’s Mansion series, I was so excited when Dark Moon first came out, and I was shocked when they announced they were bringing it to Switch. They probably could have put a little more effort into it, but I couldn’t not buy it, I love the game, and I love getting to experience it again all these years later in HD! It’s a pretty dang good remake in my opinion!

Highly disagree with Mario RPG having "little" changes. Game was heavily overhauled with the gameplay with the action command timing, new chain mechanic, a team attack move, and how enemies don't freeze when casting spells. Just an easier, faster experience than the original ever could. Not to mention how the remake added more post-game content than even TTYD remake.

I know it's not Nintendo, but HAL absolutely knocked it out of the park with their remaster of Kirby's Return to Dream Land.
It has a significant graphical upgrade and a unique cel shaded art style.
It adds two brand new abilities which both have complex move sets (and they both have their own new challenge stages for both normal and extra mode).
It adds a new post-game mode featuring a new playable character with upgradable skills, new levels, and new bosses.
It adds another new mode full of minigames from various older Kirby games and an extensive list of missions to complete.
It adds a bunch of masks based on characters from all throughout the franchise's history (most of them even have sound effects from the character they represent).
It has a much, MUCH harder version of the True Arena with a sinister surprise at the end.
That's only the significant stuff that was added. There's quite a bit I didn't mention. THIS is how you make a remaster.

One thing I think people aren't thinking about is that this game is being ported by Forever Entertainment. Nintendo hardly have to do anything and they need a DK game out on Switch. Nintendo chooses the price to be $60 to help pay Forever Entertainment's bill. Missing effects? They still have until January, it's going to be okay. It's kind of funny they're so proud to be making or porting this game to Switch (it's their biggest project to date) I say give them a chance. Worse case we get a mid port of DKC: Returns with 3DS levels.
You know who else was studio like this at first? Grezzo who is now heading a new Zelda game AND Tantalus the guys that did TPHD for Wii U, Skyward Sword HD for Switch AND Luigi's Mansion 2 HD.

Okay so like... this whole "they still have until ___ to fix this" Has that EVER been a thing? Like at least with these kinds of games especially recently, have we ever really had a "Oh they showed us bad footage" and then later "oh game is much better now."
Like my thought immediately goes to the TTYD Remake, that was announced in September of last year, people complained about FPS and some visuals, game came out 8 months later in May, no changes, the same as it was shown.
January is between 6-7 months away. And again, has any game that looked like a certain way that far away been "fixd before release?
I'm not even saying it's impossible, I'm just wondering has that been done to actually hope for that?

In response to the people saying "You can easily just ignore it if you still have the original" or "This is only for people who haven't played the original," I suggest you watch advertising closely for this game when the time gets closer. When TTYD got closer, they really started pushing the game for veteran players, even posting a full article on the Switch News outright addressing everyone who played the original telling them to still play this version.
So when we get closer, if you see anything like that from Nintendo, basically saying something like "Even if you played the Wii or 3DS, you gotta play this" then everyone really has to question how badly this game is targeting them.

Their profit margins are so mindblowingly insane right now compared to other companies like Sony. Will they keep in mind the boost of pandemic and the hard work of the Wii U that boosted the Switch to be as successful as it is?
I truly believe they need to get rid of paid online, and offer paid -not just renting legacy content. Steam has unexaggerated x100 better online while being completely free forever.

Also, the SMRPG and TTYD remakes still baffle me to this day considering I never liked the former as is, due to how much I played the M&L games and how those games expanded and improved on SMRPG where Paper Mario didn’t, and also outside the pop culture Ted Woolsey references, the Blackjack minigame, and the peace sign animation. All of which got removed in the remake. And I never liked TTYD as is because the M&L games, Super Paper Mario, and Paper Jam spoiled me on how I played Paper Mario.
I quit the TTYD remake when I got halfway through Chapter 6 because I was constantly running out of FP, couldn’t properly combat Spiky Parabuzzies, and the Simplifier badge was mocking me for using it by giving me less Star Power. I hate it when games mock me for using accessibility features when they offer them in the first place. It’s like, why even have them in the first place?
Long story short, SMRPG’s remake only appeals to “Geno for Smash” fans, and TTYD’s remake only appeals to Paper Mario’s rabid and toxic fanbase that will get on your case if you so much as praise Super-Origami King. Neither of these games are good Mario JRPGs unlike the M&L games, which have been very consistant in their quality to be good for all five games, barring their easier than easy remakes that stripped out the charm of Superstar Saga and Bowser’s Inside Story for side modes that no one liked or played, and also barring Brothership for Nintendo replacing Charles Martinet with Kevin Afghani, who I still hold as the worst voice actor for the brothers because of his inability to do a proper Italian accent.

Rather than the price i am struggling to understand why this port even exists in the first place. Handheld players played it in the 3DS. Tabletop players played it in the Wii. None of these consoles had a small playerbase like the Wii U. The 3DS certainly is not that old and it even had plenty of deals for DK Country Returns so a lot of people had it. And the graphics don't even look that different from the original. The console already has a port that looks much better and plays pretty much the same. So what is the caveat here? It's not like the game is cheap enough for people to own it just for the sake of it, cause that is the only why i'd personally get it, even as someone who loved the game.

The only issue with voting with your wallet when it comes to the Donkey Kong Country Returns remaster, is that the franchise hasn't seen a new entry in what almost 10 years?
So not buying the game translates to the customer base not being interested in the franchise from Nintendo's perspective. I think you have to be vocal in some situations or the corporations just won't get the clear message. 🙄

friendly reminder when people say "$60" for current gen games this doesnt account to the canadian dollar where modern releases can subtotal $90-100. fun.

Metroid prime remaster was 40. Why is everything else 60? Why can't the others also be 40?

Yeah, I'm not glad about these classics coming back with small changes/upgrades and being same price as newer games. This is why despite me being a fan for some of those older games, I don't buy them.

They're charging what they feel their product is worth. They have the right to do that. And we have the right to determine if it's worth it to us to buy it or don't buy it. Sometimes it is to me, sometimes it's not. Depends on the game. Either way, nobody is getting ripped off lol

Most fans are too brainwashing of liking Mario thanks to Mario Movie. Many of his games are highly grossing through many years. That they will ended up buying it no matter how expensive Nintendo charge it. It's a sad thing but truth

I mean, Mario RPG is a really solid remake. But yeah, a lot of your points are undeniably true. These "HD" releases should be 30 to 40 bucks, not 60.
