      American justification was that they wanted to save lives by terrifying the Japanese government into surrender, but like he said they probably accomplished that with the first one. Second one was most likely to scare Russia and gain leverage while negotiating with them for the post-WW2 World.

    The invention of the katana came from one of the mongol invasions. They samurai went on boats at night to attack the mongol fleet and couldn't get to grips with their long swords on the ships...so a shorter one was made. And the 'tornado' was called the divine wind or kamikaze.

    Fun history fact, the logic for dropping the bomb *was* to save laves. To end the war with Japan it was estimated to cost both sides an estimated 500,000 lives vs. the bomb being dropped which was roughly 50,000 (of course this doesn't include issues like cancer from radiation but we didn't know about all that at the time. whoops). The reason we dropped the second one was because Japan wanted to continue the war because they thought "shit that bomb is so crazy there's no way they have a second one." And *surpise* we had a second one, so the emperor forced a surrender because he didn't want to see the entire country get turned to glass because the generals didn't want to admit defeat.

    • @8triagrammer
      @8triagrammer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There's a lot of evidence, not shown in our history books, or in the media, suggesting that Japan was actually trying to surrender. The U.S. had it's own track record of atrocities in WW2, I'm sorry to say, so the argument that this was a grossly disproportionate isn't so crazy... Something so horrific needs a selling point, but even if we take the reasoning at face value, incinerating over 200,000 people and subjecting an area to far reaching radiation fall out is a bit of a stretch.
      The allies were winning quite handily. We could have just as easily blockaded Japan and starved them out, saving even MORE lives, and not irradiating a populated landmass, which by the way, affected the entire planet...

    • @blyzz2031
      @blyzz2031 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@8triagrammer Right, surround an entire country and starve everyone, including civilians. Sorry but if it isn't said that we did the wrong thing in any media source or book, then itsimply isn't true. Even if it was, don't you think one of the many first world countries would have said something about it? The japanese were known for their loyalty and never surrendering. A blatant example of this would be kamikazes. I swear i've also seen you say this type of bs in some other video, is this all you do?

    • @SignalCorps1
      @SignalCorps1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @gotove that is such a stupid comment on so many fronts. You’re obviously a Zionist conspiracy theorist to bring that up in this conversation so I leave that alone, but to suggest that the US had the power to change the Japanese government in the 1830-40s is idiotic. I am well aware of the US involvement in Japan at that time, but you are apparently not aware that the US was a fledgling nation only 60 years old trying to get its footing. Mexico was easily much stronger than the US at that time. Texas was a it own country. California and other areas out west were part of Mexico and we were headed towards a civil war. In the !850s & 60s there was a rebel uprising against the Shgunate government in protest of foreign involvement in Japan that was put down by the Britain, France, Holland, and token involvement in the US, but if anything this strengthens the existing Japanese government. I think it is you that could use the history lesson

  • @aikhis
    @aikhis 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    the second bomb was also to see if it works.. it was a different type to the first, and different detonation method.... one plutonium, one uranium. SO the USA actually developed two different types of a-bomb in wwii.t he first one drops was i believe uranium gun-type detonation, which was simpler and easier to mass produce but not efficient, compared to the plutonium implosion that hit nagasaki, which was a much larger explosion but the bomb was more technical and took longer to make. SO they dropped both bombs just to see how both worked in combat.

    • @canemcbeardface6333
      @canemcbeardface6333 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you're about half way there we new the uranium bomb would work because we tested it. The Plutonium bomb was a mystery because in theory it worked, but we(we being the USA) didn't know if it worked in practice.
      Fun Fact: The trigger mechanism for the bomb has almost certainly saved more lives than it has cost. Due to the trigger mechanism being the same trigger mechanism that sets off Air Bags in cars.

      Eric Starnes “WRONG” is a little too harsh. There’s a lot of truth to what you said. The Americans were shocked to see Japanese civilians jumping off cliffs to kill themselves rather than surrender on Saipan. Japanese government propaganda during the war had convinced them that we would absolutely brutalize them and had even women in the homeland practicing with sharpened sticks. It was calculated that an invasion would have produced a huge amount of casualties to the American troops and a colossal amount of Japanese civilian casualties.
      F D has a good point as well. Stalin was very full of himself after the war. When the Pope was brought up, probably because of the Poles. He famously retorted “how many divisions does he have?”

    There's a clip on TH-cam of the co-pilot who helped fly oneof the aircraft over Japan. He said the first thing he thought after seeing the destruction was 'My God, what have we done.'
    I think he ended up drinking himself to death pretty rapidly. Whatever you think of the reasons, it was an incredible waste of human life.

      Lazzen these days? Yes. Back then no. I’m not saying they were stupid for not listening. Just stating what happened. Honestly the damage done in Hiroshima looks a lot like the damage done by the firebombing damage in Tokyo.

    • @rekkariley652
      @rekkariley652 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not so much the emperor refusing as the leaders of the country’s military refusing to back down. There was a sizable segment that actually was in favor of surrendering, but they didn’t have the political clout to make it happen until after the bombs were dropped.

    I lived in Japan from 2000 to 2004 and I went with my girlfriend there she get lunch, unfortunately she wanted to go to one of those sushi places. To say I have never and will never eat raw fish or anything but can tuna fish for that matter. So after she was done having her meal, I ended up going with her to a Korean barbecue place where I ate cow tongues because I didn't know what the hell I was doing. I'm also really a white guy by the way.

    I think one of the bombs was an explosion and one was an implosion, that's why they dropped two, to test effectiveness.
