The guy could have just stayed on the hill and bombard the guy with the mortar, sometimes doing nothing and being patient is the best strategy, be good friends and teach the man how to use tactics....

nah cos that would have allowed the other guys to link up their armies and hit them all at once

@@owens2843 The mortar would have destroyed half the army before hand, moving a little in front but keeping the hill, just in range of the gunmen, focusing the single unit of crossbows would leave the adversary in a tactical disadvantage, forcing blue to ether charge the hill or flee and take losses but link up with the reinforcements then they would have still needed to charge the hill. Sad use of mortars. Also engaging would leave the mortar useless unless you know how to manually aim the mortars(you can use the mortars to attack a specific spot on the ground by using "alt click")

@@valy4lifeee Dude... He was charging forward to kill as many as he could before the reinforcements came. He had higher quality units but would be against 13, 3 of his 9 being ranged, so he would be hard pressed to defend the ranged ones and would be at constant risk of getting flanked if he'd stayed to wait. Holding double your numbers back in melee is quite easy against AI, but definitely not something you can do in multiplayer.
If he'd just stayed back and tried to let the mortars bombard, the other guys could have just dodged them, dodging mortars is very much possible, especially in small-scale battles like this. His mortar is unlikely to have done any more damage than it already did.
"engaging would leave the mortar useless"??? Wtf are you on about? As long as he keeps enemy retreating units from going towards them and keep the reinforcements in mind, they can fire quite freely and the easiest way to keep the enemy standing still and bunched up is by just making them engage in melee.
You can quite clearly see on the end-battle screen that his elite and ranged units were almost untouched and he kept the damage focused on the more easily replaceable front line units. The real damage he took was almost entirely on Karl Franz who lost about half his max hp.
I'm not sure if you've ever played this game against other people before, or heck, if you've even played campaign before.

actually the cavalary guy did good, but he could charge more spearmen they are cheap and shock cav would tear them
