Can you do the opposite now. Doing the 10 worse Oscar speeches.
No force in heaven or on earth will convince me that Cuba Gooding Jr. gave a better performance than William H Macy in Fargo, or Edward Norton in Primal Fear. This is one thing that PISSES me off about the Academy; this was a reward for a hip actor in a very hip and of-the-moment movie and the award was mostly for one scene of hip sort-of-funny dialogue that became the phrase of the moment.
Lupita nyongo's is one of the best
For me, my #1 is Ke Huy Quan - the genuineness of his speech had me in tears!
Viola Davis when she won for Fences
Never get tired to watch Olivia Colman's Oscar speeches. So funny, so original!
And yet we are still waiting for another “Halle Berry” Oscar moment for Best Actress.
Berry’s speech had gravitas. It ignited my lifelong interest in awards. Haters be damned.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s was so heartfelt . I don’t think she ever got blasé about winning.
There was the cringe part where he kissed Halle Berry but personally, I’ve always loved Adrian Brody speech and the warm congratulations the audience gave him on his brilliant performance
For me, as an Asian guy, Bong Joon-Ho’s speech during his victory in Best Directing is my #1 all-timer, and then Michelle Yeoh’s is my 2nd. 🙏🏻❤️💯
Christopher Plummer in BEGINNERS is far and away the best Oscar speech I ever heard. Every winner these days now acknowledges the other nominees and it usually comes off phony. "Kenneth, Nick, Jonah and dear Max, it is an honor gentlemen to be among you." Just gorgeous.
Definitely underrated is Russell Crowe's speech for Gladiator. He managed to do the "usual" parts of thanking parents and agents with eloquent and fresh phrasing, and ended it with poetic encouragement: "You know, when you grow up in the suburbs of Sydney or Auckland, or Newcastle like Ridley or Jamie Bell, or the suburbs of anywhere, you know, a dream like this seems kind of vaguely ludicrous and completely unattainable. But this moment is directly connected to those childhood imagining[s]. And for anybody who's on the down side of advantage and relying purely on courage, it's possible."
No Russell Crowe - when he talks about childhood dreams and being able to pursue them…you could hear a pin drop in the auditorium. It was mesmerising.
Bong Joon-Ho....one of the classiest Oscar speeches EVER!!
My favorites are Jodie Foster for “The Accused “ when she said
I think my two favs ever are Mira Sorvino’s speech and mentioning her dad, and Kate Winslet, when she asks her dad to whistle. Honorable mentions to Anna Paquin for getting herself together enough to say a few words, and Meryl Streep for SC, where she gives kudos to Kevin and Peter in the loveliest way.
I didn't entirely agree with the win but I thought Michael Caine's Oscar speech for The Cider House Rules was one of the best speeches ever. Plus Bob Hope getting his honorary Oscar was great mainly because he always said he relied on que cards and his writers yet he didn't have anything ready and was able to give a great speech.
Ke Huy Quan was one that had me crying happy tears
Rita Moreno’s speech was a good one. Surprised it’s not included
