THIS is what we need to see! THIS is one of many reasons I stay subbed to your channel! You're keeping it real, and that's sorely needed on TH-cam! Thank you, Steve!
That was my first thought, Steve is so personable and sweet, also has a wealth of knowledge in resin crafting. People being mean/ rude over resin techniques/advice/opinions is so petty and stupid, smh...
Right? He's like a bundle of...like droll warmth dusted with adorable, kinda dad-style goofiness & ofc- most important of all for *this* channel anyway- easy-to-follow helpfulness! I am going to become a wolf & inhale anyone who harms him.
If this video don't shut the haters up nothing will, their loss not yours! I love 💕 your instructions and appreciate the time you invest to teach us, right it wrong, you share your experiences. 💗 Thank you Steve?!
No one should be criticizing anyone when it comes to items made by hand. No it isn't perfect because humans aren't perfect, but those imperfections is what makes your handcrafted items perfect for others. Steve you keep on keeping on and you do you. ❤this channel.
I’ve been mixing 99% alcohol with resin dyes. Fabulous results with long lasting colors 🙌 Started with an alumilite dye set and went on from there. Happy Arting everyone 🌹
It's apparently just the Pinata brand. Toonpish Crafts does an extensive test with 9 different brands of alcohol ink and only the Pinata faded in the sunlight in her experiment...that's great news for me as I've never heard of that brand and have had zero issue with fading with the resin alcohol inks I got from Amazon. So for those that are swearing off alcohol ink, you might be missing a wonderful opportunity for creating projects you simply can't do with paint in resin.
Thank you Steve for preventing me from wasting my money! I'm new to resin and was looking into using alcohol inks. The resin goddess must have led me to your video, which was the only one to mention this downside. I'm making things for my granddaughter to sell on her esoteric stall and online. You've not only taught me an important lesson, more importantly you stopped me from providing my granddaughter with substandard merchandise. I'm off to buy you a well deserved coffee.
Thank you for telling us this Steve. Wow. I didn't know this. When I heard alcohol ink would fade over time I was thinking years not weeks. I'm so glad I haven't used any alcohol to color my resin. I definitely won't now.
Didn’t know this. Have not seen any negative comments here. Steve you give us information we need in order to keep from making mistakes Much appreciated
Thanks so much for this. I have heard that they fade, but had no idea how much! OMG!! I will not be selling anything like this unless a customer requests it and will sign a waiver. (Not kidding.) Wowzers. Thanks again!! Happy Crafting!!!!
Wow! I saw how faded the one was even before you took the other one out. So sad that such beauty would fade so quickly because the effects are so stunning.
Remember, you're selling items to someone who is giving you a paycheck and reference for more business. I would rather make sure I have no issues with any of my products 10 yrs from now knowing my customers are happy and continue to buy from me knowing that they will never have any problem with the products that they buy than to take a risk and have one go bad and lose everything I built my business on. We need videos like these to know that we can use that product in our company as this is the result of what can happen. It's TH-cam videos like these that keep us informed of what is best and what is not. Yes, the decision is yours to do what you want in your company, but me personally I would rather be informed than to wasted thousands of dollars on product that is no use for what I need. Thank you for the information as it's been great information for me and please keep up the videos as I find them very educational. Thank you, and have a wonderful week.
this was very useful. instead of negative feedback people should ask you why you say don't use them, but no they like to have their go at someone, makes them feel better in their sad lives.
I will never understand why there'd be nasty comments. you're really offended because he doesn't care for alcohol inks in his resin? holy damn people just have nothing better to do in their lives I guess
Some people enjoy putting others down and they are anonymous behind their keyboards. #FranchiseKicks has said (paraphrasing) that even if they are complaining it adds to the stats and that includes their dislikes. Keep doing what you're doing because nearly everybody is here because they are learning new skills or enjoy watching what you're making.
Wow! Thats quite a difference! I’m so glad I listened to your advice! I’m so glad you’re still just deleting the nasty comments. There are way more people enjoying your content❤️
Where I live state side, Florida, it's almost ALWAYS hot n 🌞 sunny. It happens so much faster here, like in 2 weeks, colors completely decrepit 🤬 faded n gone likes its made 10 years ago. I use a bit of pigment powder and a tiny bits of alcohol ink, just to get it to feather. The ink fades, but the pigment stays😃 thanks for sharing 😊
I've heard that happens with alcohol ink but have never seen the results. Thank you for sharing this information with us. You do a great service with your experiments and I also LOVE your other channel ❤️.
Great demo Steve. I also did a test on a coaster that I made with alcohol inks, in beachy colours. It’s been sitting on a windowsill for 6 months now and is almost colourless! There is a dense tree outside the window, so it gets no direct sun, just daylight.
NOT A NASTY COMMENT!! I didn't have this issue with a window hanger done with resin and alcohol inks. It stayed on my patio window for over a year. I wish I had some way to send you a picture of it after a year's time! Only difference is I did not use white...
My husband and I came across this first hand when we were new to resin. We were trying out alcohol ink in UV resin - we knew it wasn't recommended, but mostly people said it was because the resin wouldn't cure as well, but we decided to try anyway. Ultimately the resin cured fine - but the beautiful teal green ink turned nearly pitch black. We realised it was the UV, and we haven't really used the inks much since... and thankfully we'd only bought two to try!
Waw, I can't believe how different those colours are. I know you suffer with colour blindness but they definitely look like different colours. Thanks for showing us.
Oh my goodness thank you for this tip. I was going to put up my coasters with alcohol ink at my next farmers market. You definitely saved me unhappy customers. I'm such a huge fan of yours. Ps. The negative nellies don't matter. Block block n block them - keep doing what you are doing. You have many who love your contents. Till your next video. 😊🥰😉
Thank you! Im very new to resin, and I had no idea there was even an issue with lightfastness of alcohol ink in epoxy. I don't think I've ever seen a better example of why lightfastness is important in relation to what we are creating. Surely there are times when the lightfastness will not matter as it will not be exposed to light for long periods of time. Coasters? Pretty as they were, they seem just as quick to fade and seem almost "rotten" like actual flowers. If that's what you want, cool... but if not... well. Lol. Thank you for this, you likely saved me many many heartbreaks in future projects.
Thanks, I needed to see this. I knew alcohol ink faded over time but I never realized it was this quick and to that degree! Now the problem, does anyone need to buy 1,000 bottles of alcohol ink? LOL! Thank you for taking the time and making a video showing how quickly alcohol ink fades, it's appreciated!
A solution to this is to use a resin with extra HALS in it. KResin makes a good one as does Stone Coat. They may cost a bit more but your pigments will be protected! I have done a few little studies myself, not on alcohol inks in particular, but I sense those will be will forthcoming. LOL Steve, You are a lovely man and how boring life would be if we all agreed on everything! Keep doing what you do so well and I will continue to enjoy your lovely videos! I am currently very much enjoying JDiction 4 hour for making blooms - it is by far the best I have found and I wouldn't have found it if it weren't for you! 😘
What a dramatic illustration! Thanks for sharing these results. I wonder whether this is just a thing that happens in resin, or is this a thing that happens to any alcohol ink used in any art piece (painting, polymer clay, etc). Rather disappointing, isn't it...
Yep I agree. I made a split tumbler for my brother used alcohol inks on one side thinking it was just so awesome then “hand painted” the other side which came out perfectly and trust (I am not a painter) it was a few months before I saw him and it was just on a shelf in my office an it faded so badly on alcohol side 😩 I was so sad cuz I don’t think I could paint it again sad people don’t warn you! Thanks for being honest!😉
Wow, what a dif in them after only 14 days and think no one wants that happening when buying your coasters thanks for this tutorial and teaching me what to avoid
I’ve been playing with the alcohol inks for a few months and really like how the colours react and you can swirl the colours around for different effects and it gives you both sides you can choose to display but do be careful using any flame to pop the bubbles.🤔😉 You can also put the inks in first and then pour the resin for even more different effects. When I put the inks in first, I use a solid colour resin and it doesn’t seem to fade the colours but I’m glad I saw this video. Good to have this problem pointed out.
That’s insane how similar they ended up! Usually you never know even if you’re using the same colors. I love your channel Steve. You have such a wonderful personality and are so inspiring. I live in the USA and I’m just across the pond on the east coast.
Thanks so much for your investigation !!! Already in very early videos you spoke about alcohol-inks fading, and I was somehow unhappy. But watching the comparison is quite disillusioning... ...and it's really thoughtful to mention, that jewellery for sale should not be made this way. 🙂
Oh my goodness, thanks!! I was just getting ready to work with the alcohol inks. I'm really glad I watched this first. I was going to make window charms & you just saved me some heartaches and embarrassment when I give these as gifts! I have found that if I want to try something but I'm not sure how it will work I check out your videos & 99% of the time you have the answer. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! What would we do without you to guide us?!?!
Great video as always! I also still see people using real flowers and leaves on social media. Trust me, they will rot! Candy seems to hold up well though 🤣. Thanks Steve 💞
I love your instructional and educational videos Steve, I don’t think I could have carried on with my resin art if I hadn’t found you on you tube. Ignore the hateful comments and keep up the brilliant work you do helping others to achieve. Thank you Steve.
I saw a woman do experiments adding drops of alcohol on top of the alcohol inks it was fascinating she explaining how the molecules were changing why they did what they were doing! It’s pretty good ❤
I had no idea the alcohol ink faded in the resin! Thank you for sharing this information. And, I'm sorry you get such rude comments. I think you're awesome and I love your videos. Remember, those miserably rude people are just that, miserable and unhappy, and they find the need to try to make others miserable, as well. Bless their little hearts. 😉
OMG! That was quick. I had heard about this but I thought it took years for the decoloration to occur. Some artist use calligraphy ink, I heard it doesn’t lose it’s color. I still need to try it out.
I'm late to this video (sorry!) but fairly new to the resin world. I've been shocked at the number of TH-cam resin folks who show using alcohol inks. I'm from the papercrafting / drawing world and it's just a basic fact that alcohol based colors (like Copics) are absolutely *not* light-fast. It's one of the reasons, despite all the amazingly talented Copic artists/ colorers there are, you rarely see it for sale. Even to give as a gift / fund raiser prize, etc. you either have it framed under UV glass or tell the recipient to do it or it will vanish quickly. Thanks for doing this experiment to show people the difference!
Hey Steve, hope you are doing better. Could you do an experiment with clothes dye in resin? I've been thinking about using it. Would like to see if it's worth my time. Thanks for everything you're doing, keep it up, and don't listen to the haters.
Wow! Thanks so much for this video. I never knew this would happen. If I was a customer I would truly be disappointed too. Thanks for taking the time to show us the results of what time and light does to alcohol ink.
Sorry to hear there are mean people, you don’t deserve that. I am completely shocked to see the difference in the coasters! You can’t dispute that! Thank you for everything you do & all the information you give, I am thankful for that! 🙏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻❤️
Thank you so much for making this video, it was a total eye opener. I couldn’t believe the difference in the coaster that was left out in sunlight. I totally agree with you when you say you can’t use alcohol inks when you are planning on making items for sale. I’m jut starting out with resin work, and I find your channel so informative and usual. Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into producing your videos. 😊
Very informative and interesting.I am very glad that you have shown what can happen! I hope everyone agrees that this video will save us all money by not having our projects ruined. The question I have is- is there some other way to get the stunning color bursts without using alcohol inks? Thank you Steve 😊!!!
Oh wow. I am soo glad you did this video. There are so many videos with people doing alcohol inks in their resin pieces that they sell. So since those inks are out what other inks can produce the same or similar results. Would love to see a video with alternative inks or dyes compared to alcohol ink to get similar results.
I was actually quite sad to hear that the pieces will fade with alcohol inks. Thankfully it wasn't too far into my learning curve that I found that out and I haven't sold very many pieces that have the inks in them. Do you know if you can do the same thing with a little bit of paint in the resin instead of the alcohol ink?
Would it make a difference what kind of resin you use? To be honest, I often use alcohol inks in my resin projects and I have coasters, tealight holders, key chains, picture frames and more. Some are in full sunlight, others in more darker spots of my house but even after years I've seen no fading of colors.
myself i am wondering if there is such a difference from uv resin and epoxy ( wait for cure), since the "reg" epoxy can have uv resistance added to it to protect it, that it might be protecting the ink as well. with tumblers I haven't seen this fading thing happen
And I was just about to go buy some alcohol inks to try out. Thanks to you Steve, I don't have to waste my money or watch something I've made fade. Thanks for all the tips you share. Stay well.
Thanks for this video. I've heard from a FB resin group that alcohol inks can fade. Once I read that, I ceased using them in my resin work. Not worth the risk! And I don't ever want to sell substandard merch. Will be buying you a coffee!! You deserve it with your truthful, transparency. And I love that you show your frustrations and difficulties too. You keep it real and I am very appreciative!
Wow unbelievable, now you’ve saved me money like you say. I’m not a fan of alcohol inks either as I find the underside of coasters and jewellery a bit ugly. I love mica powder.
Wow. What a difference. But frankly, if I saw both of these at a fair, I would only buy the faded one. To me, that one is stunning! You mentioned the feathering in the first but I see it just fine in the second. I will do this now, with these colors in particular, just for the faded effect! I am a rank beginner so this demo was most appreciated. 👍
Steve, I just found you, so I am not in the group of treating the TH-camrs bad, or any body. I like to be nice so I can be treated the same way. I am new in resin and uv, so I am watching several videos so that when I start I can do it right. It’s amazing how your tutorial shows how the alcohol inks fade in direct light. Although the color of the faded one looks beautiful too. However, I understand your point into selling someone a beautiful colored piece and for that piece to fade as you showed us. I purchased a 24 bottles set of inks from HTVRONT and I understand that they are alcohol inks and they are being sold for resin and uv. I guess I would return it or use them for backgrounds on card making. Thank you so much for sharing your research.
Those look like vastly different coasters!!! The one in the light still looks good as well with the design though, but thank you for showing what happens when you use alcohol inks.
Thank you so much for this info! I have been researching resin work for a while now before I buy anything and watching your channel has helped me eliminate a lot of useless items! You rock! ❤
I am so glad I watched this before using the new alcohol inks I bought specifically to use in resin!! Yikes. I planned to use it in jewelry, but now I'll save it for more appropriate applications. Thanks, also, for mentioning your other channel. I'm going there from here. I really enjoy your "experimental" spirit and the willingness to share both the victories and defeats in your studio.
Thank you Steve, I've used alcohol inks in items, I did notice some pretty pyramids I made, thankfully just for me, had faded. So glad I used mica for my window pieces.
I think this man is a wonderful!!!! charismatic, hilarious ,full of great tips tricks & ideas!! I don't usually subscribe to channels other than music thats what I used you tube for... That being said....his channel was the first one that subscribed to and I'm so dang happy that I did!! Also I tried this project that he did here and not to my surprise it turned out the same as on his video! Now I did this so i can show my clients because some of them absolutely insist on having Alcohol ink and this will help me show them what happens to it after as little as on month! Because A: I want my customers to have the best looking products as i can possibly give them & B: I want fabulous product out there!!! Thank you a million times for making this vide0 and thanks a million for all the others you have up and the many more to come!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I have just become interested in pouring resin. Trying to do all the research as possible before I get started to eliminate the mistakes before I make them. Thank you so much for your honest reviews and teachings. I will be glued to everyone of them!
I've often heard you say that alcohol inks aren't very color fast, however, I NEVER thought they would be this bad!!! Because you had always seemed to not care for them, I just never tried them. It's so nice to actually see what you have been trying to get us to understand. Thanks so much for the video demonstration. It was very self explanatory. Stay safe, you do you, and stay crafty 👍👍🛎️🔔🦋🦋
THIS is what we need to see! THIS is one of many reasons I stay subbed to your channel! You're keeping it real, and that's sorely needed on TH-cam! Thank you, Steve!
Who is being mean to this man? He's one of the most charming and generous persons on TH-cam. What's wrong with you!?

He is amazing. Ignore that ass
Some people just can’t help themselves- making others miserable gives them happy! So, a message to them-be nice, you’ll be amazed how good it feels!
If this video don't shut the haters up nothing will, their loss not yours! I love 💕 your instructions and appreciate the time you invest to teach us, right it wrong, you share your experiences. 💗 Thank you Steve?!
Good information I must check some pendants in my showcase at the shop . I used ink in those thanks Steve it’s worth knowing . Great video

I wondered if that would work! Thanks!
What a brilliant idea, @debrajo! 😄
Getting nasty over dyes, Realy! Get a life at least you tell the truth Steve, thanks for that

Ya...it catches on fire.
Thank you for telling us this Steve. Wow. I didn't know this. When I heard alcohol ink would fade over time I was thinking years not weeks. I'm so glad I haven't used any alcohol to color my resin. I definitely won't now.

Much appreciated
The back of the one that was exposed to sunlight looks like a Petrie dish. Very informative video! Thank you!
Thanks so much for this. I have heard that they fade, but had no idea how much! OMG!! I will not be selling anything like this unless a customer requests it and will sign a waiver. (Not kidding.) Wowzers. Thanks again!! Happy Crafting!!!!

Super job Steve 👍😀👍

OMG! That was quick. I had heard about this but I thought it took years for the decoloration to occur. Some artist use calligraphy ink, I heard it doesn’t lose it’s color. I still need to try it out.
very helpful my first experiments were a disaster but I just used them in the garden
Wow what a difference. It’s still looks nice though even though it’s changed
Wow! I had no idea that would happen with alcohol inks! Thank you for this information.
Thank you to show the difference! That the blue pigments completely fades away is hard
Holy cow, Steve!
You sure showed the naysayers!
Thanks for sharing.
Wow, what a huge difference. Thank you for this amazing demo!!!
Thank you. Very informative . Im a noobie and your vidioes help me alot
Hey Steve, hope you are doing better. Could you do an experiment with clothes dye in resin? I've been thinking about using it. Would like to see if it's worth my time. Thanks for everything you're doing, keep it up, and don't listen to the haters.
Wow that's amazing to see
Wow! That is crazy!!! I’m new to resin and this was very helpful. I love that “only wear your jewelry at night” lol. I’ve been loving your videos!!!
Wow, that is very enlightening 👍
Wow! Thanks so much for this video. I never knew this would happen. If I was a customer I would truly be disappointed too. Thanks for taking the time to show us the results of what time and light does to alcohol ink.
Wow... all I can say to this, is, Thank You. For this and all of your videos. I've learned so much from you.
WOW that’s a game changer for sure. Thank you Steve ❤️
Sorry to hear there are mean people, you don’t deserve that. I am completely shocked to see the difference in the coasters! You can’t dispute that! Thank you for everything you do & all the information you give, I am thankful for that! 🙏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻❤️
Thank you so much for this information.
Wow...I had no idea the fading could be so dramatic over such a short time....thank you for the info!
He is very kind to show us how to work with the resin. I am just a beginner and he gives very useful tips. Thank you.
Very informative. Thank you for showing.
Wow I would have never guessed this would have occurred, thank you for sharing!!! ❤️
Same here. Wondering what the difference is?
myself i am wondering if there is such a difference from uv resin and epoxy ( wait for cure), since the "reg" epoxy can have uv resistance added to it to protect it, that it might be protecting the ink as well. with tumblers I haven't seen this fading thing happen
And I was just about to go buy some alcohol inks to try out. Thanks to you Steve, I don't have to waste my money or watch something I've made fade.
Thanks for all the tips you share. Stay well.
The alcohol ink is wonderful though in polymer clay jewelry.
Could you spray the coaster with uv- resistant clear acrylic coating from krylon after it cures both sides. We use on painting
Thank you!🤗
WOW 😳 I’d be mad after a couple of weeks ! Thank you ☺️
I liked the out come of both coasters. Both look unique 👍
Oh that’s a shame. I’m new to all this resin stuff and have several inks so now I’ll understand why they go clear. Thanks for the help.
Thankyou Steve for this video I have been using inks and did not like how they were coming out, thought I was using the inks wrong, love your videos
Thank you so much for this info! I have been researching resin work for a while now before I buy anything and watching your channel has helped me eliminate a lot of useless items! You rock! ❤
Even the washed out one remained beautiful both are
I am so glad I watched this before using the new alcohol inks I bought specifically to use in resin!!
Wow that's a big difference 😳 thank u for doing this
I think this man is a wonderful!!!! charismatic, hilarious ,full of great tips tricks & ideas!! Thank you a million times for making this vide0 and thanks a million for all the others you have up and the many more to come!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Dang! I never would have known this! Thanks.
