Ever since the beginning Selim has always lied about Bayezid to everyone, goaded him into every angry reaction, and everyone always believes Selim. Makes me think of Mahidevil and Hurrem in the first season, everyone is evil to Hurrem but never get in trouble for it but Hurrem always gets mistreated and then punished for what other people did to her, same as Bayezid. All he wanted was for his father to believe in him and all Suleiman could do is ignore his efforts and focus on Selim who has always and will always be just a punk.

So this was the turning point for Selim. All his brothers joined hands and turned against him because they considered themselves superior to the apparent "weakling". who over the years, became much mature and wise and proved them wrong. Crazy thing is Selim never wanted to be Sultan, Selim only wanted to live and enjoy life. He was a fan of the arts, music and of course drinking. I absolutely LOVE Nerbanu! (My second time watching the series). She is SO MUCH like a young Hurrem, and it feels so nice having her in the series after Meryem (Hurrems first actress) left.
Selim was a perfect candidate because he’s neutral. He his very obedient to sultan Suleiman compare to Mustapha and byazid. Mustapha is a wonderful ruler, but let’s not forget sometimes sultan Suleiman gets angry when he takes decision without his consent and for byazid he’s brave and strong but very hot tempered, so he’s not fit. Cihanger is very thoughtful and intelligent but manisa is too big to entrust to him as a sick prince. Selim is the best choice because he listens to instructions and cool headed not ambitious for power like he’s brother’s.

I feel so sorry for Mustafa - out of all 5 princes, he was the best. Despite having a conniving & contriving mother like Mahidevran, he turned out to be a good ruler of his provinces - very fair & just. On the other hand, we never really got to see what Mehmet was like as a ruler of his province, because he died so young. Selim was a pretty useless drunkard, who didn't do very much or work very hard at all. Bayezid, while he may have been a good fighter, was obviously a spendthrift who was not good at managing his provinces' finances & was always in debt. And it seems that Cihangir did not even get a look in when it came to managing a province, due to his hunchback condition, & not being much of a fighter.

If you saw the series from the beginning, Bayezid always provoked Selim out of jealousy. He was always fighting his brother. From what I saw - Bayezid did not always provoke Selim - even going back as far as their childhood. Even if Suleyman had ordered the death of Bayezid historically - Selim did not have to be the one who killed his own brother - especially after Bayezid had previously shown Selim mercy in a fight.
I do not know why, although it seemed that Sultan Suleiman favored him over Mustafa when Mehmed was alive, his attitude when receiving the news of their assassinations was different. When he received the news that Mehmed was assassinated in Manisa, he could still keep calm despite Mehmed being injured severely. However, here, when he received the news of Mustafa being assassinated, he became very angry and aggressive, although Mustafa was not hurt.

Crazy thing is Selim never wanted to be Sultan, Selim only wanted to live and enjoy life. He was a fan of the arts, music and of course drinking. Had his brother never joined together against him he would just lived life but they lit the fire in him and made him afraid of them. He had no choice but to fight back to survive, just like his mother. I feel bad for Selim even though i don't agree with most of his decisions.

It is considered one of the biggest mistakes of the sultan’s reign along with marrying Hurrem and executing Mustafa on falsified evidence. Of course, it was Hurrem’s own mistake not to recognise that removing the third player in the game, her remaining sons would turn against each other!

Why viewers are against Mahidevran and Mustafa I don't know. They got the raw deal from the beginning. Mustafa lost the throne that should have been his. Hurrem and Rustem are the bad characters all along. Even Sumbula is not a good character. Just because the first actress who played Hurrem was beautiful, does not make her character right. She was a schemer and always wanted her own power. Beauty should not mask evilness.

After Hurrem died she joined her aunt Mirhimah's household and stayed with her until Mirhimah died. She was close to Ayse Humasah she died during the reign of Sultan Murad.

Selim was a perfect candidate because he’s neutral. He his very obedient to sultan Suleiman compare to Mustapha and byazid.
Mustapha is a wonderful ruler, but let’s not forget sometimes sultan Suleiman gets angry when he takes decision without his consent and for byazid he’s brave and strong but very hot tempered, so he’s not fit. Cihanger is very thoughtful and intelligent but manisa is too big to entrust to him as a sick prince.
Selim is the best choice because he listens to instructions and cool headed not ambitious for power like he’s brother’s.

I feel so sorry for Mustafa - out of all 5 princes, he was the best. Despite having a conniving & contriving mother like Mahidevran, he turned out to be a good ruler of his provinces - very fair & just. On the other hand, we never really got to see what Mehmet was like as a ruler of his province, because he died so young. Selim was a pretty useless drunkard, who didn't do very much or work very hard at all. Bayezid, while he may have been a good fighter, was obviously a spendthrift who was not good at managing his provinces' finances & was always in debt. And it seems that Cihangir did not even get a look in when it came to managing a province, due to his hunchback condition, & not being much of a fighter.
The reason Selim was chosen, is because he is peaceful and would not kill his brothers.

If you saw the series from the beginning, Bayezid always provoked Selim out of jealousy. He was always fighting his brother. If you read between the lines, even Sulleiman knew the character of Bayezid. Remember the first time Sulleiman took Selim to a campaign, he could not stand when they behead a man. Selim is a peaceful person and if he lies is to defend himself. It was not him who ordered his brother to be killed. Go to history for real facts.

From what I saw - Bayezid did not always provoke Selim - even going back as far as their childhood. Even if Suleyman had ordered the death of Bayezid historically - Selim did not have to be the one who killed his own brother - especially after Bayezid had previously shown Selim mercy in a fight.

I do not know why, although it seemed that Sultan Suleiman favored him over Mustafa when Mehmed was alive, his attitude when receiving the news of their assassinations was different. When he received the news that Mehmed was assassinated in Manisa, he could still keep calm despite Mehmed being injured severely. However, here, when he received the news of Mustafa being assassinated, he became very angry and aggressive, although Mustafa was not hurt.
